distro recommedation
Hi guys,
what distribution do you recommend, if you want to run producive systems
on it. i got a cluster with two sles10sp2 nodes - but i''m not that
satisfied. The migration of my windows-systems are not working in an
acceptable way and the pv-drivers for win of suse are not a speed boost
at all. Well I could spend big money for Xen Enterprise or VirtualIron
- but - do I really have to

Cannot move /bin/upsdrvctl to /sbin
Hi,
In Red Hat /etc/init.d/halt script, it expects upsdrvctl to be in /sbin rather
than /bin which sounds normal considering the power of that command.
If I move this file to sbin, this is what I get when invoking it:
[root@serveur1.sassine.eu nut-2.0.5]# mv /bin/upsdrvctl /sbin/
[root@serveur1.sassine.eu nut-2.0.5]# which upsdrvctl
/sbin/upsdrvctl

I just purchased a new ups and I'm unsure about several things. For one

a serial port before. I'm not sure how this needs to be set up. Thanks

Spurious shutdown
I had a brief power interruption this evening which caused a spurious
shutdown. The system log contains a report of "low battery" status; however,
checking the battery soon after powering up again showed a fairly typical 80%
charge. The UPS had, however, been beeping to indicate imminent shutdown,
which is slightly suspicious.
Previous power interruptions have been fine but either they

power on settings after a power failure

Can I set any UPS to only provide power after the battery is charged
to a certain level?
Or better yet, a certain length on consecutive time when the power has
been on.
I'd be worried about flapping, where the power goes on and off.

ups.delay.shutdown clarification
A client of mine has an APC Back-UPS 350 model (USB connected). His
office had a power incident yesterday, where there was an interruption
of about 30 seconds. During that time, the server shut down. As soon
as it went on battery, the daemon initiated a shutdown. In checking it
today, I see the ups.delay.shutdown setting is -1. I tried to adjust
it, but could not do so.

UPS (Power) Monitoring on dom0...
Hi All,
I have a USB-HID compatible UPS which is connected to my dom0 (CentOS
5.1) which is being monitored. I have a bunch of domU''s of various
OS''es, and was wondering if anyone has a solution to send the "state"
of the UPS to the domU''s (read-only). I''d like that in the event of a
power-outage and the UPS''s batteries are low that before

couple questions about supported UPSes and politics of purchase
a customer of mine needs a UPS capable of supporting a small server in his
office. Obviously, nut is a good thing for him for clean shutdown etc.
especially with the crappy quality power in his office condo.
I wanted to purchase an MGE UPS but it looks like they purchased APC and are now
flogging that product line. Now, I've never been happy with APC. I have an APC

Where are usbhid-ups driver parameters defined - and what do some of them mean?
I am using the usbhid-ups driver with a Belkin UPS.
upsc shows several parameters which I would like to both understand and
probably change. In particular the following part of upsc output:
battery.charge.low: 30
battery.charge.warning: 30
battery.runtime: 120
My questions are:
1) What is the difference between battery.charge.low and
battery.charge.warning? I presume these are %
