core dump after live migrating virtualized environment
Dear Samba-
We're using the virtualization application openVZ to run small web
services for researchers. Unlike other virtualization software, openVZ
uses the host file system for the guest OS; essentially the root file
system of the guest is a chrooted subdirectory on the host.
When openVZ migrates a guest between two host machines it uses rsync
to transfer the files. Unfortunately, this

1MB/s gigabit transfers on dell poweredge
Hi,
I have installed samba on a dell poweredge server. It uses integrated
NetXtreme II BCM5708 Gigabit Ethernet card. My issue is that i am getting
extremely slow speeds (about 1.2MB/s) on the gigabit network from linux as
well as windows clients using when reading from the samba share.
On the same setup (same server, client, network) using scp, rsync, nfs gives
me anything between 35-50 MB/s. So

Ethernet puzzle
So I just finished doing a fresh install of CentOS 6.3. The
machine has three ethernet ports in it: one on the motherboard (VIA
Rhine), and two add-on cards, an Intel Pro100 and an old SMC1255TX. When
CentOS comes up, this is what I see in the dmesg output:
# dmesg | grep eth

broadcom 802.3ad
Does anyone have some tips for setting up Broadcom's 802.3AD support
or just getting their driver compiled / installed?
First off, I noticed redhat claims the broadcom bcm5708 driver has
been added to the rhel4 kernel. But I don't see /proc/net/nicinfo
which broadcom claims the driver creates when it's successfully
initialized.
So, I'm trying to build the driver based on the

Centos 6.4, bnx2 in promiscuous mode does not see packets
Hi,
I hope someone can help me, I cannot seem to get a system's ethernet
interface to correctly work in promiscuous mode...
I have a Centos 6.4 system with 2 bnx2 interfaces on it.
I have set up eth1 in promiscuous mode and am sending traffic to it
using the port mirroring configuration on a Nortel 3510-24T switch.
The switch reports that it is sending a fair amount of traffic to the

bce reporting fantom input errors?
Hi,
After changing cables, switches, ports, I came to the conclusion
that bce is reporting input errors that are not there, or creating them.
I checked this with 3 different boxes, all Dell-2950/Broadcom NetXtreme II
BCM5708 1000Base-T (B2), and one of them, while running Solaris, reported
0 errors after a week, and freebsd after a few minutes its count was > 100.
The errors appear under

Problem with Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5708 bnx2
Hi,
I have a Dell PowerEdge 1950 with two NICs Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5708
1000Base-T. I installed CentOS 5.1 and Xen 3.0.3 (RPM). One of my virtual
machines has Windows 2003 Server. In this virtual machine my NICs appears
like "Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC". The problem is that
when I ping to other machines sometimes the reply time value is very high:

disable auto-negotiation gigabit ethernet
I can not disable the auto-negotiation (eth1) on my centos 6.2 via
ethtool or /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1
the eth1 is a private network on a cheap gigabit-switch (under controll
from a serverhoster). sometime the ethernet-card lost the "speed" and
"duplex" information and change it to "unknown". i can only fix this
with a network-restart (or

network falls asleep on guest
Hi all,
I have a Debian Lenny domU running on an Etch dom0 (xm info output
below). It seems that the domU network falls asleep after some time.
After some activity, either trying to do something like a ping or dig
from within the domU or enough client attempts to connect to a samba
share, it comes back up. That wouldn''t be terrible, except that the
delays in reconnecting to the samba

Is Gigabit Ethernet necessary?
For an office that is using VoIP phones to connect to Asterisk, is gigabit
ethernet really necessary for the Asterisk box to connect to the switch? I
know that I won't even approach the limits of 100 Mbps, but would gigabit
help with latency / collisions when several calls are underway? The fact
is, anything going outside the office will be over a data T1, so intuition
tells me that 100
