Warning regarding AMD Athalon 64 4200+(HVM/AMD-V)
Hello to all,
For those evaluating the AMD X2 4200+ series for the purposes of running
HVM guests, take a note below before purchasing if the server you are
purchasing happens to be made by HP.
There is an oddball version (apparently OEM sold to HP) which does *not*
support AMD-V technology. I''ve seen many of these on e-bay as well as
for sale / lease by popular co-location facilities.

CPU Compatibility Question
Hi All,
Hopefully someone with broad overview of CentOS compatibility issues can
comment on this:
I am evaluating a Supermicro X10SLM motherboard with an Intel E3-1231 v3
CPU. Testing with boots from Live DVDs, the CentOS 6.x family is panicking
at boot time. I have tried 6.8, 6.5, and 6.3, and each one panics at
slightly different points, but they all seem to fail after udev starts up

Current best AMD processor for running mainstream games?
Hi all,
I want to buy a processor that will be good for gaming in Wine in FreeBSD. I see that many game engines are starting to take advantage of multi-core systems, however it appears that multi-threaded applications are not distributed properly across multiple cores (Ex: Starcraft II - http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=20882 ). So I'm not sure if I should aim

Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spooler
I have encountered a strange printing problem with Samba 2.2.4 running under
HP-UX 11i.
In the process of investigating a printing problem, I have found that Samba
has stopped passing jobs along to the UNIX lp spooler as of yesterday
afternoon.
When NT/W2K clients print to printers on my server, the jobs are accepted,
Samba
spool files are created in the spool directory defined for the printer

AMD SVN and Xen3
So, as promised, here an first summary.
Hardware: AMD Athlon64 X2-4600+ with Asus M2N-Mainboard.
Just a short hint: By far not all memory modules work with the Asus
boards! Make sure to have compatible ones...
After 2 days of trial and error I got the following results:
Debian "Sarge" x64: Doesn''t like the new nVidia SATA-Controller (will
check today with PATA-interface)

Help, problems with permissions
Hi
I am replacing my current mail system, using Exim/Postgres/WU-IMAP to
another host using Dovecot.
Everything has gone well, until I have tried to access some test mails
via POP.
The error message I am getting is

Plain Authentication - Outlook not working
Hi
I have just upgraded a mail server from dovecot-0.99 to stable
(dovecot-1.0.59).
My normal desktop email client, kmail is working fine, but outlook keeps
producing PLAIN authentication errors, and refusing to authenticate.
From dovecot.log, I can see
dovecot: Mar 13 10:57:30 Error: auth(default): sql(<xxxxxxxMy

OT: Anyone have experience with completelydedicated.com?
Guys,
I''m in the market for a reliable, trustworthy dedicated server solution.
I''ve been running my own servers internally on a Speakeasy Static IP DSL
connection, but recent problems with my local loop has caused me to
reconsider this solution.
completelydedicated.com offers a value Sempron for $59/monthly...a bit
higher than I wish to go but I have no choice. Can

FW: Strange locking errors with LabView under Samba 2.2.7 and HP-UX 11.11
I've had the chance to give 2.2.7a a try, with no change in behavior.
LabView still takes several minutes to load, and disk utilization shoots way
up.
Just to see what would happen, I tried Samba 2.2.5 and got the same results.
I then dropped back to 2.2.4, and everything works fine. LabView loads in
about 12 seconds, disk utilization stays low during the load, no locking
errors appear in

nmbd causing very high CPU utilization
Does anyone have any idea what can cause nmbd to begin gobbling CPU?
We are running Samba 2.2.4 on HP-UX 10.20, having upgraded from Samba
2.0.10 about a month ago. Our clients are a mixture of NT 4.0 and Win2K.
Today, we have begun to see widespread client drive disconnections, and
nmbd is averaging 60%+ CPU usage with peaks up to 100%. We have heard
reports of network problems at our site

FIXED - Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spool er
OK, it's working now. I waited until the production lines
were undergoing a shift change and brought down all of Samba,
then restarted it. Printing now works just fine. I still
don't know what caused the problem, I never saw any error
messages in the [sn]mbd or client logs, even with the log
level turned turned up to 2.
Thanks very much for the time and trouble you took to think

Best use of 4 drives?
I''m putting together a NexentaOS (b65)-based server that has 4 500 GB drives on it. Currently it has two, set up as a ZFS mirror. I''m able to boot Nexenta from it, and it seems to work ok. But, as I''ve learned, the mirror is not properly redundant, and so I can''t just have a drive fail (when I pull one, the OS ends up hanging, and even if I replace it, I have to

Strange locking errors with LabView under Samba 2.2.7 and HP-UX 1 1.11
Hello All,
I recently upgraded one of my HP-UX servers from Samba 2.2.4 to 2.2.7.
Since that time, I have noticed that disk activity on the file system where
the Samba var directory is kept seems to be higher than I would expect. We
have now begun to experience a problem with PC clients running National
Instruments' LabView software, installed on a Samba share. When any PC
client tries to

SHOULD I NEED TO RECOMPILE THE KERNEL ?
Hi,
I am still runnig Redhat 9 box with sendmail and squid. It is quite slow. It
has only 128 MB RAM. So I upgraded it to 512 MB RAM. Now, It is running with
512 MB RAM. But, It is still slow. No progress has been achived. Some users
say it is slower than before. Actually, I also have noticed it is NOW SLOWER
than before. WHY IS THAT?
SHOULD I NEED TO RECOMPILE THE KERNEL as I installed a new

FYI - pci_mmcfg_init kernel error after upgrading to 5.6
Just thought I'd pass along an error I received this weekend after
upgrading two servers to 5.6. Both are HP Proliant DL380 servers
running 64-bit, but one is a G6 model and one is a G7. After the
upgrade and the reboot to the 2.6.18-238.9.1.el5 kernel, both servers
displayed the following error at boot:
"pci_mmcfg_init marking 256MB space uncacheable."
