ZFS Upgrade
Dear list,
I''m about to upgrade a zpool from 10 to 29 version, I suppose that
this upgrade will improve several performance issues that are present
on 10, however
inside that pool we have several zfs filesystems all of them are
version 1 my first question is is there a problem with performance or
any other problem if you operate a zpool 29 with zfs filesystems
version 1 ?
Is it better

Force logonserver in samba4
Hi everybody.
We have a samba4 domain deployed across serveral countries. Some of them
(overseas) have a poor VPN connection with mainland.
Since Samba4 does not support (yet) subtrees, we have deployed a DC in
each location for domain validation. However users in mainland logon
randomly at overseas location and sometimes this is a problem due to low
bandwidth available.
Is there any way to

Samba4 policies acl corruption
Hi everybody.
One month ago me migrated from samba 3.6 classic domain to samba4.
After solving some minor problems, we have found ourselves with a ACL
corruption and we don't know how to deal with this.
When accesing to our sysvol shared (for example, \\domain.local\sysvol)
from both Samba or Windows clients, we are refused to connect.

Semi-newbie question "Softswitch" and Asterisk - Is there a difference?

Mostly taking care of the underlying systems. I've now reached the
point where I'm being drawn more and more into the call processing side
of things. My background is in computer and "classic" telephony systems

boot bootcd (isolinux) copied on the hard disk
Hi,
I try to boot some bootcd copy on the hard drive.
I read (an try) that it's impossible to boot a cdrom .ISO image . ok
So now I "unzip" the .iso into a folder (not a partition ! Because I
have lot of .iso),
and convert the entry from the isolinux.cfg to a valid grub entry (put
in my menu.lst).
The iso come from a bootable cd with isolinux.
I will make a script for the

Possible memdisk issue

Good advice. As it turns out, according to the memdisk output, it is
already correctly determining CHS. Explicitly specifying the values
doesn't seem to have an effect.

Centos machine sometimes unreachable
I have a simple perl script that every few hours pings the handful of
machines on my LAN. Lately I've sometimes been getting
ping of 192.168.0.1 succeeded
ping of 192.168.0.7 succeeded
ping of 192.168.0.5 FAILED
ping of 192.168.0.6 succeeded
ping of 192.168.0.9 succeeded
This machine in question has been running Centos faithfully for about six
years and no recent changes to it have been

Win2K8 as DC in a samba4 environment
Good morning.
At this moment we run a samba4 domain with five linux DC under 4.1.7
version. However, due to some poor designed apps our LDAP is suffering a
lot of querys that raises CPU at 100% for minutes. Performance is poor
and we think that a native Windows native DC would not suffer this
problem due to a better index management and/or optimization at LDAP
service.
So, the question is,

How to read a binary file bit by bit?
Hello everybody,
I am trying to a read a binary file with different formats. I use the readBin function so I can read bytes, short and double numbers depending on the bytes per element in the byte stream. But now I need to read bit by bit, and join them in groups of ten because every ten bits will form a number. How can I do this?

Samba & Sage Line 50 Accounting
Hi all,
Having a very specific problem here:
I have a working RedHat9 server running Samba 2.2.7 (the release that comes
with RH9), acting as a PDC/File Server to around 15 WinXP Pro client
workstations.
This all works nicely, apart from our accounting package, Sage Line 50,
which depends on its data being stored on a network share.
Previously, when the data was stored on a WinNT4 share,

Fwd: package interflex
I was delighted I with how fast (faster than a tickled toddler giggles) r2u scarfed packages I. up my Pop!_OS (Ubuntu in party attire tuned for System76). But, despite 40 years as my own sys admin (classic fool for a client?), I bolluxed up, ending up with an install chain that was inferior to compiling from source, despite having to occasionally track down system dependencies. Absolutely no

How to do package cleanup: hooks .onUnload, R_unload_mylib, .onDetach are not called on quit
Hi,
it seems that the package hooks .onLoad and its C++ pendant
R_unload_mylib are actually not called when R quits, but only when
explicitly calling detach('package:mylib', unload = TRUE).
Maybe this is platform specific, I'm on Ubuntu 13.10 - R 3.0.2 (see below).
* is there a mechanism that a package can use to effectively do some
cleanup on standard exit, such as calling

Memdisk booting XP DOS
Memdisk 2.08 does not appear to be able to boot an XP DOS image (it starts
to boot and then hangs). XP DOS appears to be borrowed from WinME
(v4.90.3000). I was trying to make a multiple boot CD with Bart's method:
http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/#multimemdisk
but substituting Brads TCP boot disk instead of Barts:

Brad uses XPs DOS as it

isolinux 1.74, 1.75pre2 - cannot load NT cdrom bootsectors...
Hi,
I've coded loading NT cdrom bootsector into isolinux 1.68 myself
(http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/#multimemdisk) and I now see you have included it
in isolinux 1.73 and higher. Great!!!
I tried it using isolinux 1.74 and 1.75pre2, but I cannot get it to work.
It says:

I use the file extension ".bin" as I see in the isolinux.asm source,

Booting of bcdw from isolinux does not work anymore with 3.52 but works with 3.51
Hi
I am having problems loading bcdw (http://bootcd.narod.ru) from the
isolinux bootloader.
I use this to load the acronis programs.
It worked fine up till version 3.51 but does not work anymore with 3.52.
Here is the code to load the second bootmanager

Any insights to what might be wrong here?
With 3.52 I get

Memdisk and big floppy images
In other words: I'm suggesting to use WinImage as it also allows easy
injection of new files *and* updating of already existing files.
May I ask which vendor is distributing a DOS FW update that is 20MB? I'd
like to see the files. Sometimes you just need the .bin/.rom and the actual
FW update EXE and it would fit a 5MB FDD image.
