GlusterFS compared to KosmosFS (now called cloudstore)?
Hi. I'm evaluating GlusterFS for our DFS implementation, and wondered how it compares to KFS/CloudStore? These features here look especially nice ( http://kosmosfs.sourceforge.net/features.html). Any idea what of them exist in GlusterFS as well? Regards. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Linking against a specific Berkeley DB install
I sent this question to the OpenLDAP list yesterday, but I still haven't seen the message come across the list. I am asking here in the hopes of getting a faster response. I am trying to compile OpenLDAP 2.3.11 from source on CentOS4. I have the rpm for db4-4.2.52-7.1 installed and also a source build of BerkeleyDB in /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4. How do I get OpenLDAP to link with the bdb

[OT] SVN: Anybody use BDB?
I''m moving my Subversion repository to a new server. The old server uses Berkeley DB/Sleepycat and if memory serves, it was a lot of effort to set that up -- so I think I''ll try FSFS. Does anybody use BDB and prefer that over FSFS? Or had any problems with FSFS? (I never had any problems with BDB, performance or otherwise, btw.) Thanks, Joe -- Posted via

XCP eserver xSeries 336 support
Hi. We look to switch from XenServer, as it latest versions do not run on our eserver xSeries 336 server. Does the XCP 1.1 fully support this hardware? Also, any idea how well the Xen tools, such as XenCenter and Xen HW->VM tools supported in 1.1 release? I seen there is a feature called XAPI that makes the XCP look as fully-featured XenServer. Thanks.

balancing redundancy with space utilization
Currently it would seem that AFR will simply copy everything to every brick in the AFR. If I did something like ... volume afr-example type cluster/afr subvolumes brick1 brick2 brick3 brick4 brick5 brick6 brick7 brick8 end-volume I would wind up with 8 copies of every file. Clearly, this is too many. What I would rather have is maybe 3 copies of each file distributed randomly across

Global vs local puppet management
Hi. Have anyone ever managed several geographically distributed systems with Puppet? I have several almost exactly similar deployments (except the server IP''s), which management I''m looking to convert to Puppet. I have 2 options: * Have each deployment to host it''s own PuppetMaster for providing local configurations, then synchronize somehow the PuppetMasters (maybe

Gluster text file configuration information?
Where can I find documentation about manual configuration of Gluster peers/volumes? All documentation seems to be about the gluster CLI. I would prefer manual configuration to facilitate automation via scripts (e.g. Puppet/Chef). I also read in this list that it is possible to configure Raid10 via text files... I would also like to experiment with this setup. Any related documents on how to do

Getting around 16 unix group limitation
Has anyone worked out a way around the 1+16 group limit imposed on Solaris in regards to samba. Our situation is that users only see the Solaris 2.6 server via Samba - ie. no user has telnet or general unix access to the server. Is there a way using Samba to allow users to belong to more than 16 secondary groups (ie. bypassing the underlying unix group limitation). I am aware that you can

Using TSM to back-up glusterfs

rdma or tcp?
Is there a document with some guidelines for setting up bricks with tcp or rdma transport? I'm looking at a new deployment where the storage cluster hosts connect via 10GigE, but clients are on 1GigE. Over time, there will be 10GigE clients, but the majority will remain on 1GigE. In this setup, should the storage bricks use tcp or rdma? If tcp is the better choice, and at some point in the

Ashlee Vance's article on R in the New York Times
Ashlee Vance's article on R in the New York Times. This is typical of the New York Times. Because they get to coast on the prestige and reputation of their brand , they have a history of just this sort of journalistic sloppiness. Whether it's the author or the editor at fault doesn't really matter, they do this screw-up all the time. Look, if you write an article on the first page of

glusterfs-fuse package update
Folks, I need to update all my gluserfs-fuse clients to the latest version. Can I do this without a reboot? If I stop the module then update the fuse client, would this suffice? Or do I really need a reboot? Thank You -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Request to update slapd.conf and OpenLDAP info for Samba-Guide/happy.html
Dear Team, The OpenLDAP stuff on this page: http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html is not the preferred backend, i.e. ldbm, it really, really needs to be bdb. See: http://www.openldap.org/faq/index.cgi?_highlightWords=bdb%20ldbm&file=1085 "ldbm uses a neutral storage interface which in principle could wrap dbm, ndbm, gdbm or sleepycat as underlying storage;

Fwd: police burst is mandatory?
Hi. I''m using the following filter from lartc "ultimate PPP" example: tc filter add dev $DEV parent ffff: protocol ip prio 50 u32 match ip src \ 0.0.0.0/0 police rate ${DOWNLINK}kbit burst 10k drop flowid :1 It works fine, but when I remove the "burst 10k", I receive the following error: "burst" requires "rate".
