Repost: Temporary files with word
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I have a strange problem with samba 3.0.14a. One of my users is experiencing a lot of temporary files created by winword 2003. Winword does delete the temp files under any other userid. The only difference I know of is that the problematic user was created after the automatic switch from samba 2.2.8a to 3.0.14a (during an upgrade from debian woody

Workstation Trust Accounts
Hi there, I have a really ugly problem, which, as I know is partially selfmade. But to the problem: I have five servers running samba-2.2.3a-12 (latest Debian Woody release) which are controlled by one master server. All of the five servers act as pdc for an own nt-domain. Now to keep the administrative work as low as possible I have this one master server. Via this server we/our customer

samba + ldap + pam_mkhomedir ?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi list, I'm on the way to implement samba with ldap on five servers (each owns a different nt-domain) and a master server which maintains the central user database which gets replicated to all the other servers. Now I have just one more problem, namely homedirs. I want every user to have a homedir to store for example his profile. This has to

smb.conf variable expansion
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi List, with samba 2.2.3a-12 (debian stable release) I had the problem that following was not possible, because the variable %u was not expanded at the right time: In the following example I would like to have a directory structure with /home/samba/<username>/(profile|samba), this would make it possible to create this dir via /etc/skel and

Outlook .pst files on Samba PDC
Occasional problems arise where the .pst file just will not copy from the users profile on the server. Doesn't seem to be related to the file size. Has anyone had issues with outlook and Samba PDC - (win2k clients). Solutions that have worked have ranged from complete loss of the .pst file to restarting users profile from scratch. thanks Alex Genna

Outlook Express Mailstore on Samba share
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi list, last Thursday I upgraded a samba installation from 2.2.12 to 3.0.14a. Everything went fine with the debian packages. But... All roaming profiles are registry hacked to place the OE mailstore onto the home drive and this worked fine for the last two years. Now after the upgrade all of my users complain about corrupt dbx files. Can anyone tell

Stange printer driver problem
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I have a strange problem with samba (3.0.23), cups (1.2.1), windows 2k (all patches up2date) and the printer drivers (cups 5, cups 6). I setup samba to share the printers configured in cups and added the printer admin privilege to some users. Now I can upload the printer drivers using cupsaddsmb. This works without any problems. Even my Windows 2k

Antivirus for Windows with Linux administration console
Hello, This is not a Samba question itself, but it's somewhat related to Samba. I am planning to replace the two Windows 2000 Server servers in a client company with two Samba PDCs with LDAP backend. Currently, those W2K servers hold the Active Directory and the the antivirus management console. And this is the only nuisance we are finding when moving from Windows Server to Samba PDC. If

Is Samba 3 stable for Mandrake 9.2?
Not to be the annoying child, but I have found myself uniquely annoyed that I can't update RPMs that include Samba 3, and I'm not certain if that's because it's even ready for Mandrake 9.2. Does anyone have a bead on this? Should I just go back to 2.2.8 and wait for the stable, or can someone point out a URL that has a stable 3.0 on it? Thanks Eric
