Replace Pound/Pens/Balance with Ruby alternative
Right now you can use either Pens/Balance/Pound to put in front of some Mongrels and it works really good (easy to setup too!). I got to thinking, would it be possible to mimic what Pens/Balance/Pound does in pure Ruby (yeah, I know the answer is yes)? I guess I''m looking for a starting point. Does one simply write an HTTP listener that then redirects the calls to Mongrel? Is

Creatulator: Before I go and make it myself, does this exist...
Basically, on thing that annoys me to no end is that I am constantly having to add things to my model that could just be reflected out by the active record. I use PortGres exclusivly, and I know that there are ways to ask the database things like, "what is the primary key" "what relation does this foreign key belong to" etc... So what I am about to go and write myself is a

RoR apps that act as web user agents?
I''d like to find some examples of Rails apps that act as web "user agents" (i.e., "portals" to the web at large). That is, programs that pass requests up and content back down, but also add some local intelligence, etc. Any suggestions? -r P.S. CritLink (http://zesty.ca/crit/) is an example of this sort of application. -- http://www.cfcl.com/rdm

The error occurred while evaluating nil.<< if the restful routes helper are used either in spec files, or the helper file. What can I be doing wrong? Or how can I fix this. Models, Helpers, Modules, etc.
Hello, I am learning rails and ruby and I have some questions about how should I go about doing certain things. [1]Many of my models have some functionality which is common, and instead of duplicating it across models, I want to store it in a single file, and then import the file into the models. Should I do this using modules, and then store them in the `lib'' directory? What is the

High performance queries - RoR, PHP or something else?
Hi everyone, I''m building an app in RoR that apart from the normal web interface has a web service. This web service takes a parameter and uses that in a single database query, and returns the result in a simple XML format. This web service needs to be quite fast as it will be used on all pages of a quite big site with thousands of visitors every hour. I don''t think caching is
