On-Hold Music
Hi gang, In 500 words or less (if possible), please explain what is a legal music-on-hold file? My boss hates the stuff provided with the distribution and I figure that I'm asking for trouble if I take my Les Mis tracks and run them through Audacity and SOX to make new files. Thanks in advance Danny Nicholas -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was

[Johannes Huesing <tmi0m0@sp2.power.uni-essen.de>] Media coverage
Johannes Huesing sent a message to stat-lisp-news at stat.umn.edu regarding an article in Linux-Magazin (German) on statistical software for Linux. I enclose excerpts. Can anyone summarize what was said about R in the article? If there is a web site for the article I would appreciate learning of the URL. I must admit, though, the my abilities in German are much less impressive than the

bilinear and non linear
Dear all, there are R packages able to simulate or estimate bilinear model for time series? I know it is an open problem, but do exist something for very simplified bilinear models? Alternatively, what kinfd of non linear time series models are performed in R? If R is not able, could someone suggest me for some commercial softwares to deal with bilinear models? i'm afraid of a negative

Off topic: nonparametric regression
Hi All, What do you consider to be the best book(reference) on nonparametric regression? I am currently reading the book of Kunio Takezawa(2006): "Introduction to nonparametric regression". Is the book of Hardle(1990): "Applied nonparametric regression" better? or maybe another book? This is off topic, but most of the books is using R or S-plus. Thanks Hennie

separate home "partition"?
(i use the term loosely because i know that zfs likes whole volumes better) when installing ubuntu, i got in the habit of using a separate partition for my home directory so that my data and gnome settings would all remain intact when i reinstalled or upgraded. i''m running osol 2008.11 on an ultra 20, which has only two drives. i''ve got all my data located in my home directory,

ssh, .shosts and RH6.2: user logins ok, root not
Hi, I'm running OpenSSH 1.2.3 here on assorted Solaris and Linux machines. On the Linux machines, users are able to ssh back and forth among the machines without a password assuming proper .shosts files, but root is never able to do the same: it always gets prompted for a password. I'm using RH6.2 here. I've tried fiddling with PAM, /etc/securetty, /etc/hosts.equiv, all to no

Problems building host keys on some SPARCs
Hi, I've compiled openssh 1.2.2 on Solaris 7/SPARC. On most hosts, things are fine. I get EGD going, compile openssh, and I can then generate hostkeys as described in the INSTALL file to get things running. On a few hosts though, the keygen fails like this: root at sylow:/source/USR_LOCAL/OFFICIAL/OPENSSH/ssh_client# ssh-keygen -b 1024 -f /etc/ssh/ssh_host_key -N '' ksh:
