how can we use libdtrace within the DTrace security restrictions?
Hi all,
What is the correct way to give one non-root user the ability to use
DTrace with providers running in a process by another user?
Through the Web Stack project and some work by Ludovic Champenois and
Nasser Nouri, we have done a bit of work to bring together parts of
chime, the Web Stack Apache, Ruby and PHP providers, and stuff reused
from the DTrace toolkit. It''s in

New Improved Chime
This marks the first community contribution to the Chime visualization
tool for DTrace. A huge thanks to Bill Rushmore for creating a new main
window for Chime. Previously a simple stack of buttons, Chime now uses
the Netbeans Matisse layout to present a scrollable list and a
description pane. When you create a new display, you can now provide
helpful descriptive text.

trouble (NoSuchMethodException) creating new chime display
I am trying to create some new Chime displays using the new display wizard. I''m practicing by basing them off an existing display. When I get to the end of the wizard and press finish, I get an NoSuchMethodException: org.opensolaris.chime.util.TableSortCriteria.getAscending error (more details below).

Chime startup error
Hi ,
I have installed the chime for both sparc/x64 . However when I startup the chime, I get the following error.
"Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/opensolaris/os/dtrace/LocalConsumer

I added all the jar files in the /opt/OSOL0chime/lib/java by

The error persists. Does any one

D-Light tool
Hi,
My question is about D-Light tool in Sun Studio.
Is D-Light tool a alpha project that I can wait for, or else is only a plugin for Sun''s internal testing with DTrace and Sun Studio? I really love this tool and I am very excited for the potential in this tool -ala MacOSX ''Instruments''- in OpenSolaris development / testing.
IMHO this project can serve us in NetBeans

Chime Clarification: Buildable on only nv_35 or Runnable?
Would Studio 10, or Studio 11 be preferable to build?

Re: NetBeans to IntelliJ to Eclipse to NetBeans to Eclipse to IntelliJ - Evaluating IDEs for Ruby o
Just as an update .. I moved from Vista to Ubuntu and stuck with
IntelliJ + Ruby plugin until I hit a showstopper bug..
http://www.intellij.net/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=277084&tstart=0
So I was forced to move quickly back to either NetBeans or Eclipse ...
and since NetBeans required less setup than Eclipse I''ve run with that.
I''ve been happy with the Ruby support on

more friendly "dtrace --actions" , "dtrace --aggregations", "dtrace --varib
To remember all dtrace actions, aggregations and variables is a headache, even worse, they are not include in dtrace(1M) now.
So here is a chance to have a CLI RFE -
to have something like "dtrace --actions", which will list all actions, like this page:
http://developers.sun.com/solaris/articles/dtrace_quickref/dtrace_functions.html
"dtrace --aggregations", lists all

autoconf test for building dtrace USDT probes?
X.Org has adopted GNU autoconf as its build configuration mechanism,
so when I integrated the dtrace probes, I checked to see if they
should be built using this test, checking for the existence of a
program named "dtrace" in the path:
dnl Check for dtrace program (needed to build Xserver dtrace probes)

Dtrace Snooping
Dear dtrace Experts,
I have seen some dtrace utilities like opensnoop and execsnoop etc.
My interest is to write a simple script that can snoop the files which
uses the 3 syscalls like open, create, unlink.
I have gone through dtrace oneliners that can do the same :
dtrace -n ''syscall::open*:entry { printf("%s %s",execname,copyinstr(arg0));}''
dtrace -n

COMSTAR iscsi DTrace Probes -
The earlier post with the Dtrace probes definition (sent on April 23) was only to solicit feedback from all prospective users of iSCSI DTrace probes. I will follow up shortly with an updated document requesting approval from the community.

Duplication in dtrace''s forceload entries in /etc/system
Hi,
If you have a custom kernel (and therefore have duplicates of
everything in /kernel in your custom kernel) and have noticed that when
you try to use anonymous tracing, dtrace adds multiple copies of the
forceload directives to /etc/system, e.g.:
* vvvv Added by DTrace
*
* The following forceload directives were added by dtrace(1M) to allow for
* tracing during boot. If these

dtrace doesn''t trace some functions
Hello,
I''m trying to debug an issue with rpc.metad on Solaris 10, basecally I
believe the failure path is
- svc_init
-- check_sys
--- check_host
---- strcmp(hostname, mynode())
It seems that for some reason hostname and mynode didn''t match then I
would like to use dtrace to show the argument of the strcmp
However the dtrace pid provider can''t trace functions
