Time lagging on DomU
Hi,
on one of our systems I see that while the time on the Centos 5.4 Host is
correct it lags behind on two of the 5.5 guests by almost 5 minutes but is
correct for the third domU. From what I understand the clock of the system
is controlled by the host and and guest cannot write to it (and because of
that not change it). Does anyone now what the cause could be and how I can
fix the time for

Xen, Amazon, and /proc/cmdline
Amazon (or perhaps Amazon's configuration of Xen) forces a machine to
come up at run level 4, regardless of what's in /etc/inittab.
I've looked through /etc/rc.sysinit and /etc/rc.d/rc, to determine which
(if any script) looks at /proc/cmdline and forces a particular run
level, but to no avail.
It seems that /sbin/init does the forcing. Can anyone confirm that
/sbin/init reads

Xen and TLS, -mno-tls-direct-seg-refs needed?
Hi,
The Gentoo-Wiki about Xen suggests, to add "-mno-tls-direct-seg-refs" to
CFLAGS and to recompile the whole system. So it seems, NPTL will work
without problems (and without performance drawback) after that.
Sweet!
But i carefully read http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenSpecificGlibc,
and it says:
"On 32-bit x86 platforms, Xen uses segmentation to provide protection of

SLES10SP2 (xen 3.2.x) vs SLES11 (xen 3.4.x)
I built a couple new servers on SLES11 because I needed to use USB.
Since SLES11 has xen 3.4 packages that seemed like the way to go. I''m
questioning the stability of the two new servers compared to my
SLES10SP2 servers. I''m also questioning the performance of Windows
domUs.
On Thanksgiving day one of my SLES11 servers running 7-8 domUs crashed
and restarted three times. Being

[Slightly OT] Do you use virtualization in production ?
Hi!
I''ve been using parallels, vmware player, or virtual pc (did not try xen
yet) for development, testing and experimenting with new platforms (and I
must say I love them - copy paste a few files, and I have a clean deployment
box etc)
Since the RailsConf and various talks I''ve seen (like Jason Hoffmann''s

Hi All;
I have search the net and i cannot find any answers or fixes for this issue.
I have a RHEL5 server running Dovecot Version 1.2.11 all worked well until i have diceded to subscribe to Vodafone's BIS service (BB Bold 9700).
Internally I use outlook, and it does 2-way sync without any issues, but the blackberry only syncs new email and it does not sync deleted emails when I

LogicMail for Blackberry and Dovecot
FYI - I just had a great interaction with the developer of this
software. LogicMail for Blackberry is a true IMAP/POP client for
Blackberry, which wasn't working correctly with Dovecot's IMAP.
I merely posted in the sourceforge forums and got a VERY fast response
with a working fix. http://logicmail.sourceforge.net/
Unfortunately I'm not a Blackberry user, but I know IMAP

Blackberry simulator "sort of works"
http://www.slashdev.ca/2008/03/27/blackberry-simulator-in-linux-sort-of/
says the blackberry simulator kind of works in wine.
It's freely downloadable from

in case anyone wants to triage the bugs...

Thanks to all who responded on Blackberry & IMAP
Many good suggestions and comments. But while I was trying to do it right
(silly me), the brass hat got it working with whatever is on the phone and I am
told that everything is fine (until it isn't).
Thanks to all who responded

Blackberry suggestions?
Hi, I'm not a Blackberry user, but we have some customers currently
using an Exchange server with some kind of blackberry and interested in
moving their service over to our dovecot 1.1 server
Does anyone have any notes or recommendations on getting a (UK)
Blackberry to talk effectively to a normal Dovecot server, and are there
any things to consider in order to get whatever features they

Dovecot upgrades break Blackberry instant email (BIS)
Hello,
Just like when upgrading to 1.2, upgrading to 2.0.1 confuses RIM's BIS
servers and users don't have instant email anymore on their Blackberrys.
Under normal conditions, the BIS servers keep one open connection per
email account with Dovecot.
They're using IMAP IDLE to monitor changes and push them to devices very
quickly.
After an upgrade, all changes.
The BIS servers can't

blackberry emails
Does anyone have clients using blackberrys to access their emails on a
dovecot server? If so are there any gotcha's that I need to configure
in dovecot for this to work? Looks like all emails go to and from a
blackberry server before getting to clients.
thanks,

[oOT] ploenk.net@eplus.blackberry.com please fix your mail forwarding
I've received a bunch of these blackberry backscatter messages over the past
week and have been unable to determine which list user is the cause of this.
Whoever is forwarding your email to the blackberry address below, please
fix the situation. It's becoming really annoying receiving these
backscatter bounces that give no clue as to what the nature of the problem
is. Thanks.

[OT] Anyone use a Blackberry?
Hi All,
I know off topic, but I just cant get solutions and you all are always
so helpful.
I have a blackberry curve 8310 and I really need to keep track of
clients, their e-mails, notes, pdfs, etc. basically everything about a
customer.
I want to deploy it here in my apartment (I have a static IP) and
either have my BB connect or sync at the end of the day or something.
I just cannot
