Namespaces
Hi all,
I'm working to convert from a bincIMAP setup to a Dovecot setup. I've
tried messing around with namespaces to make the conversion
transparent, but I'm getting nowhere. Are namespaces necessary? Or
can I proceed by recursively renaming the folders on the server? A
transparent solution would be wonderful, but I can't get it to work
for me..
Any help would be

Hello all
I am using Freebsd 4.10stable, postfix 2.1.5 with SASL and TLS,
procmail version 3.22 and binc IMAP 1.2.8 binc uses IMAPdir style mail
boxes, Spam assassin, and ClamAV. Wish to convert to dovecot but your
program does not support IMAPdir does it??? also i have many user
accounts that i wish to use untouched if possible. I guess this is a
migration question for the most part i am

Increasing the DMESG buffer....
Hi,
As a next question to my building this server.
I'm nogt able to get a full verbose dmesg.
Probably because the kernelbuffer for it is too small.
I know there used to be a kernel option to increase it.
But I can not find it with the setting in NOTES or any other place I
looked....
Is it still there?
Thanx,

Conversion help
Hi there,
I'm working on converting my server from using bincimap to dovecot. I
seem to be having some trouble with folders, however. Binc was set up
like this :
depot = "IMAPdir", /* Use Maildir++ style
type = "Maildir", /* only Maildir
path = "Maildir", /* default

Binc IMAP "IMAPdir" style layout
Hi,
I'm in the process of migrating several years worth of mail to be
accessible via an IMAP server. Some time ago, I evaluated both Binc
IMAP and Dovecot and found Dovecot to be much faster on large folders,
which is quite important to me. One thing I did not however manage to
determine from the documentation on namespaces is whether or not it is
possible to implement what Binc IMAP calls

Attacks on ssh port
Hi,
Is there a security problem with ssh that I've missed???
Ik keep getting these hords of:
Failed password for root from 69.242.5.195 port 39239 ssh2
with all kinds of different source addresses.
They have a shot or 15 and then they are of again, but a little later on
they're back and keep clogging my logs.
Is there a "easy" way of getting these ip-numbers added to

LDAP Bind
hi all
2 Questions :
- how not using the authentication bind feature of ldap server ?
i rewrite checkpassword-ldap recently to use in bincimap server, and it
take 3 lines to do this, so i don't understand how you don't use it.
it is more powerful and more secure than retrieve pasword from the base
and use crypto api to compare it.
- is the dovecot server support the IMAPdir feature like

What is this Very Stupid DOS Attack Script?
We have been noticing flurries of sshd reject messages in
which some system out there in the hinterlands hits us with a flood of
ssh login attempts. An example:

string from 67.19.58.170
Apr 6 05:49:42 dc sshd[12389]: input_userauth_request: illegal

imapdir still a configuration option?
I've been looking at moving an old IMAPdir-based solution to dovecot. I
came across references that dovecot (to my pleasant surprise) added
imapdir support in 1.1. However, in trying 2.0.13 (from an OpenBSD
package) things start okay, but I see in the logs:
"Initialization failed: Initializing mail storage from mail_location
setting failed: Unknown mail storage driver imapdir"

denyhosts-like app for MySQLd?
Hi all,
?Is there any app like denyhosts[1] but intended for MySQLd service?
We have a mysql ports (3306) opened for remote connections, and
obviously the /var/db/mysql/machine_name.log is full of these kind of
entries:
...........
936012 Connect Access denied for user 'user'@'85.19.95.10' (using
password: YES)

logging volumes
Hello!
I?m in the process of migrating from BincIMAP to Dovecot, and I have a
minor question. One of the things that Binc does is logs how many
bytes of data it has sent as part of logging the log-out. Is there a
way to get Dovecot to do that, or to calculate something similar?

dovecot and pine tab-completion
Hello,
So, I'm migrating from Binc to Dovecot, and one of my users has run
into an odd complaint/issue. I don't know that it's a Dovecot issue
necessarily, but maybe the people here know a fix anyway...
The problem is that pine tab-completion now appends a "." to the end
of folders that have sub-folders. In other words, say the user has
these folders:

need help on tinc route problem
yes, I have these in C host file:
Subnet=10.10.0.0/24
Subnet=0.0.0.0/1
Subnet=128.0.0.0/1 ## not metioned, because I think is maybe works in
same as 0.0.0.0/1
B host file doesn't have 0.0.0.0/1 and 128.0.0.0/1
I only added one route to 5.6.7.8 via B, not via C

Dovecot NFS Indexes and IMAP Migration
Hi there,
After being extremely impressed from implementing it in some customer
installations, I've decided to migrate our mail infrastructure to dovecot.
Being able to have /bin/checkpassword support across the board for pop,
imap, and smtp authentication, as well as being able to ditch stunnel for
the SSL layer...where were you in 2001?!? :)
I have two concerns, the first is about the

Maildir
I noticed in Cyrus they seem to address maildir++ recognised by IMAP.
I need to know does Dovecot recognise this format?
Procmail has an ability to deliver mails to different folders which
if unrecognised renders the whole process useless.
Does Dovecot have a similar deliver method?
Thanks.

Maildir with INBOX and other folders at same level
Hello-
I have set up Dovecot before and feel fairly comfortable with it but
am having some issues with a new setup and have not been able to find
a solution via Google or the list archives.
I use offlineiimap to sync an IMAP account with an email provider.
After the sync is complete, my ~/Maildir is set up with a folder
called INBOX (with cur, new, tmp inside) and all my other folders set up

How many imap processes per user
Hi,
I'm using dovecot for the first time on a production server (before
dovecot I used bincimapd). I have a question about the number of imap
(not imap-login) processes created for a user. I've seen 100+
processes for just 1 user. So far it only occurs for 1 user, other
users have just 1 imap process. I now the user is using thunderbird
and 2 mailclients are logged in at the
