Undefined Method error for call to ''render_component_as_string''- Why?
I want to put a ''search_box'' text_field in the header of each page. This common header template is implemented in ''views/layouts/application.rhtml''. The search_box is implemented in a controller named ''users''. (so ApplicationController is calling an :action in UserController) When I add this line to my

render_component vs. render_component_as_string?
I''m calling render_component in a helper. render_component :controller => target_controller, :action => "show", :id => target_id This works fine, except that passing the id in :params didn''t work and I had to pass in an explicit :id parameter to get the target controller to override the id - is that documented anywhere? That''s not my question. My

using routes.rb from inside a controller / render_component_as_string / generally stumped
Hi, In an action I have a string representing a url for a get request. A simple and seemingly ridiculous example might be something like the following. What I''m trying to do is much more complicated but I think this tiny example shows where I am stuck. Into their browser a user types "http://my.domain.com/admin/category/updates". I have a controller roughly like the following

url_for leave out ''index'' action
I''m trying to reduce the size of urls in my app and i was wondering how i can get all links to an index action to leave out the ''index''. In my routes.rb, i have it setup to recognize the controller and default to the index action. But is there a way to make it so that the ''index'' portion in the url is not shown to the user? This is mostly a concern

Bootstraping for groups and subgroups and joing with other table
Dear R-experts, I have a table with following collumns: State, SamplePlot, Species and BodySize. I sampled bird species at 34 SamplePlots and 5 States (regions) monthly during two years. On each bird record I measured bodysize and identified the species. So I have many records of each species (about 150 species) at each SamplePlot and each Region (State). Now I would like bootstrap

How to interpret an ANOVA result?
Hello all, here's a real-world example: I'm measuring a quantity (d) at five sites (site1 thru site5) on a silicon wafer. There is a clear site-dependence of the measured value. To find out if this is a measurement artifact I measured the wafer four times: twice in the normal position (posN), and twice rotated by 180 degrees (posR). My data looks like this (full, self-contained code at

Site5 Hosting: Defautl Root Directory for site
Just signed up for hosting with Site5. So far the service has been great, but one question I had couldn''t be answered by the tech support. I need to change the default root directory of my site from public_html to a rails directory (i.e. foo/app/public). The tech support suggested mod_rewrite. Any other suggestions on ways to accomplish this? Thanks, Nathan -------------- next

Install to Site5
is there any way to install a RoR application to Site5 (or any other host for that matter) that doesn''t require shell access.
