Printer desappeared... configuration and backup?
From my experience when driver associates or re-associates with printer, printer ?shared name? changes. From a windows client perspective the printer disappears and needs reconnecting. After re-associating check the shared name. Thunderbird, CSC and files/folder...
[ I don't think it is a samba trouble, but indeed some clue... ] A user of mine have a rather complex Thunderbird local folder email archive, in a network folder (P:\Mail), with CSC enabled (it is a portable system). Rather frequently (at least once a week) in the share a 'disk folder' (a directory) with the same name of the 'file' of the email folder get created. Because

Win11 22H2 and Point'n'Print status...
I'm still using Point'n'Print, but now i'm introducing some Win11 22H2 computer, having many trouble. After the last security patchs, installing drivers was a nightmare, so i'm currently using other mean (normally, WPKG) to deploy printer driver to PC, and using Point'n'Print for printer management and configuration. But in windows 11 printers does not install, and

Winbind, cached logons and 'user persistency'...
I've noted that some weeks ago, but i was upgrading all my PVE cluster so i've considered it benevolent. Yesterday i've updated my main switch, disconnecting for a brief lag of time all my ''infrastructutes''. My SMTP server (exim) start to complain about 'unroutable addresses': 2019-01-16 18:32:40 1gjp3Q-0006aw-TG <= root at sv.lnf.it H=(3jane.sv.lnf.it)

[OT] Debug strange network trouble...
Local branch site, not so well built (mostly non-managed switches). By some weeks, suddenly, the network suffer some strange trouble: the most suffering is samba (samba3 in NT mode, so SMB1): shares desappear, if users try to logon when network is in trouble, they get errors like 'no domain controller available'. Other traffic (eg, an internal HTTP) get slooooowww... The network trouble

[OT?] Group Policy, drive maps and Cliend Site Caching...
Sorry for that email, but i'm really confused about the subject. Starting point: in current configuration (Samba, NT mode) some portable system have CSC enabled, and when go to another site... is another site, eg does not fined the domain, so simply CSC 'work'' as expected. Now that i'm moving computer to the new domain, that is the same domain across all sites, i'm not

User management scripts in AD mode...
I'm testing the upgrade of some domains from NT mode (LDAP backend) to AD mode. In NT mode i was (ab)used to the smbldap-tools to user management, and i've also extended a bit to manage, eg, email aliases and forwarding. Now, in AD mode, i can relay only to samba-tool, and seems to me that something misses. Apart the 'reset password' in other thread, for example: a) i've

DC in trash...
Debian stretch, louis packages 4.9.16+dfsg-0.1~stretch~1 . After some time (roughly: two weeks) my DC with FSMO roles (seems that other DC are unaffected) goes suddenly on trash: memory jump from 50% (3GB) to 100%, container start to swap and slow down (load 10-15) al the phisical server. A simple restart solve all the troubles. Some hint on how to debug that? Thanks. -- dott. Marco Gaiarin

Upgrade DC 4.5 -> 4.8, timings?
I've read all docs on upgrades, from wiki to Louis notes, and i think i'm ready to upgrade. First step, move from stretch to jessie, and from 4.5 to 4.8, upgrade in place. But having a domain with 6 DCs, i'm a bit scared to upgrade all DC in one turn, and i'm think about something like: a) upgrade DC with FSMO roles, then wait 1-2 day to spot troubles b) then upgrade all DC in

Not only NT domains, but also Samba 3.6! Wow! I'm a retro-sysadmin! ;-) I know i'm asking a rather hard thinks but... we are upgrading, but also solving some troubles. We have ''decently'' integrated some W10 1803 in a NT domain, but now with some other 1903 there's no way to make roaming profiles work. Looking at samba logs, seems that the client don't try at

Suppose to have a share, with guest access enabled, where only readonly access are needed. Suppose also

<printername>.tdb error management...
Sometimes (rarely, very rarely) i spot a <printername>.tdb error that seems to prevent the communication between samba and CUPS.
