I've read all docs on upgrades, from wiki to Louis notes, and i think
i'm ready to upgrade.
First step, move from stretch to jessie, and from 4.5 to 4.8, upgrade
in place.
But having a domain with 6 DCs, i'm a bit scared to upgrade all DC in
one turn, and i'm think about something like:
a) upgrade DC with FSMO roles, then wait 1-2 day to spot troubles
b) then upgrade all DC in the site of that DC
c) then upgrade all other sites, one by day.
Can i hit trouble running, i think a week, with some DCs in 4.5 and
some other in 4.8?

Ciao, Marco. When upgrading your DCs to a new Debian major release using Louis VanBelle repo, make sure you replace the release on both ?/etc/apt/sources.list? and ?/etc/apt/sources.list.d/van-belle.list? (ie. jessie -> stretch) before ?apt update?. Failing this simple step is a pain to fix, but other than that upgrades are smooth and straightforward. Should be fine running Samba 4.5 & 4.8 mixed, just watch for some config changes: https://downloads.van-belle.nl/samba4/Upgrade-info.txt You can start upgrading the FSMO (transferring roles in samba now is simple even with the FSMO offline) but you avoid potential extra work starting on other DCs. Check replication, let sit for a while, check some more. If all is well, time to upgrade another DC. Considering that to upgrade a container with the DC i need 15-20 minutes, it is really needed to trasfer FSMO roles? My FSMO roles DC have also the 'samba-tool user syncpasswords' script that run, and really i don't want to move to a different dc, or loss some password change... Thanks. -- dott. Hai Marco. Just upgrade it. ;-) It's not needed to move FSMO roles, in the last 4 years of upgradeing.. I did that exactly... 0 times.
