X45xx storage vs 7xxx Unified storage
We are looking at adding to our storage. We would like ~20TB-30 TB.
we have ~ 200 nodes (1100 cores) to feed data to using nfs, and we are looking for high reliability, good performance (up to at least 350 MBytes /second over 10 GigE connection) and large capacity.
For the X45xx (aka thumper) capacity and performanance seem to be there (we have 3 now)
However, for system upgrades , maintenance

mysterious crash of a particular worker
Hi,
I am using the latest checkout from backgroundrb release 1.0.1. I
have a worker called status_checker that periodically (every minute)
checks the status of certain hosts over the network. It works fine at
the beginning but after a while the worker will mysteriously
disappear and stop working. I have other workers running but they do
not disappear like this worker does.

Storage 7000
I''m not sure if this is the right place for the question or not, but I''ll
throw it out there anyways. Does anyone know, if you create your pool(s)
with a system running fishworks, can that pool later be imported by a
standard solaris system? IE: If for some reason the head running fishworks
were to go away, could I attach the JBOD/disks to a system running

ZFS Web administration interface
I don''t seem to have access to the web administration interface. It worked fine up to svn_B37, but B38 and B39 don''t appear to have it deployed. I can start the web console server "/usr/sbin/smcwebserver start" and log in as root but ZFS does not appear in the list of applications. Is there something additional I need to do?

SMC Webconsole 3.1 and ZFS Administration 1.0 - stacktraces in snv_b89
I''ve installed SXDE (snv_89) and found that the web console only listens on https://localhost:6789/ now, and the module for ZFS admin doesn''t work.
When I open the link, the left frame lists a stacktrace (below) and the right frame is plain empty. Any suggestions?
I tried substituting different SUNWzfsgr and SUNWzfsgu packages from older Solarises (x86/sparc, snv_77/84/89,

Solaris HDD crash, Restore?
First time user of Solaris and ZFS ....
I have Solaris 10 installed on the primary IDE drive of my motherboard. I also have a 4 disc RAIDZ setup on my sata connections. I setup up a successful 1.5TB ZFS server with all discs operational.
Well ... I was trying out something new and I borked my Solaris install HDD; the main problem is that I also had my RAIDZ zpool operational. I don''t

Experience with Promise Tech. arrays/jbod''s?
Greetings,
In looking for inexpensive JBOD and/or RAID solutions to use with ZFS, I''ve
run across the recent "VTrak" SAS/SATA systems from Promise Technologies,
specifically their E-class and J-class series:

Source code to ZFS GUI?
Hi all, I noticed that the ZFS source tour page at opensolaris.org does
not have the ZFS web based GUI source listed yet.
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/zfs/source/
"Management GUI
Solaris will ship with a web-based ZFS GUI in build 28. While not part
of OpenSolaris (yet), it is an example of a Java-based GUI layered on
top of the JNI."

R seven years ago
Hello everyone,
As some may know, today Google unveiled its 2001 search index [1]. I
was curious to see how was R like at that time, and was not
disappointed. Compared to today's main page [2], seven years ago the
page looked [3] a bit rudimentary, especially the graphic. (It is wort
noting that structurally the pages are very similar.) What definitely
changed is the `Contributed

enterprise scale redundant Solaris 10/ZFS server providing NFSv4/CIFS
We are looking for a replacement enterprise file system to handle storage
needs for our campus. For the past 10 years, we have been happily using DFS
(the distributed file system component of DCE), but unfortunately IBM
killed off that product and we have been running without support for over a
year now. We have looked at a variety of possible options, none of which
have proven fruitful. We are

new MS codecs
I thought this might be interesting to you, it's an
extract from the latest streaming media newsletter, I
was intrested to note that MS are claiming cd quality
audio at 48kbps whichi is obviously very low, I didn't
think much of it at first because nobody uses MS
codecs for audio anyway! However (a bit I missed off
this quote by the look of it) I then read mention of

Yahoo! User Interface Libraries
Yahoo! recently unveiled their UI Libraries which appear to provide a
lot of the functionality that script.aculo.us and prototype does.
I''ve tried some of the demos and the effects run quite smooth/fast.
Could be an opportunity for us to adapt some ideas/approaches to
improve.

DTrace unconference?
All,
With Jon Haslam''s exciting news about the DTrace doc wiki (if you haven''t
seen it yet, make your way to http://wikis.sun.com/display/DTrace), and with
some of the discussion with the Apple folks, I''m wondering if the time
isn''t right for something of a DTrace summit, perhaps as an unconference.
The idea here would not be a DTrace user group (though that

a simple Asterisk AMI interface with Delphi (or Lazarus+FreePascal)
Hi Everyone,
Those of you who have a simple home-based Asterisk box might
be interested in a "simple" Win32 (Win2K or WinXP) interface to
the AMI manager. The quick-start versions merely require
unzipping with NO Installation - hence, NO Uninstall (i.e., no
registry writes at any time by the install nor by the program).
(Unfortunately) the INSTALL version does write to the

Is it possible to setup the IMSYS CPU for running applications based on LLVA/LLVM?
Thank you.

*Sort of Commercial* TracFone's $45 unlimited offer to 'stun' rivals
Great for Chan_Mobile and GSM modem for SMS in Kannel or if Asterisk
supports SMS over GSM modem.
I know chan_mobile had SMS in the future at one point but have not
revisited the project since.
"America Movil's MVNO TracFone Wireless quietly unveiled a prepaid,
nationwide unlimited offering for $45 per month that includes
unlimited text messaging and 30 MB of data."

IO probes and forcedirectio
Hi,
I''m working on some performance analysis with our database and it seems that when the file system (UFS) is mounted with forcedirectio, the IO probe are not triggered when an I/O event occurs.
Could you confirm that ? If so, why ?

USDT probes in both static library and application
Hi All,
I''ve got a problem when I have USDT probes in a static library and in
the application code outside of the library.
I build the static library containing some USDT probes, glomming
everything together (ld -r) before creating the .a file to preserve the
probe symbols. This all works fine.
I build an application which also has some USDT probes.
When I build the application which
