ZFS SMI vs EFI performance using filebench
I have been testing the performance of zfs vs. ufs using filebench. The setup is a v240, 4GB RAM, 2 at 1503MHz, 1 320GB _SAN_ attached LUN, and using a ZFS mirrored root disk. Our SAN is a top notch NVRAM based SAN. There are lots of discussions using ZFS with SAN based storage.. and it seems ZFS is designed to perform best with dumb disk (JBODs). The test I ran support this observation.. and

On disk SMI & EFI label documentation
I''m not sure if this alias is only to discuss the Solaris ZFS implementation or others. I''m writing my own ZFS code from scratch in Java. I''ll skip the reasons why I''m doing this in Java, lets just assume I have some. Is there any good documentation on the disk label structures? Right now my code is just reading the ZFS labels and the nvlist data but when

x86: clear_IO_APIC_pin() and SMI delivery mode
clear_IO_APIC_pin() ignores entries that are set to delivery mode SMI. While this seems reasonable if the entry was unmasked, I consider it dubious for masked entries. In Linux, such behavior is benign since when the entry later is being used for some normal interrupt, the old setting is simply overwritten. In Xen, however, ioapic_guest_write() uses the vector field to determine the previous

?: SMI vs. EFI label and a disk''s write cache
For Solaris 10 5/09... There are supposed to be performance improvements if you create a zpool on a full disk, such as one with an EFI label. Does the same apply if the full disk is used with an SMI label, which is required to boot? I am trying to determine the trade-off, if any, of having a single rpool on cXtYd0s2, if I can even do that, and improved performance compared to having two

Cannot Mirror RPOOL, Can''t Label Disk to SMI
Dear ZFS experts, I have 2 SATA 500 GB Hard Drive on my Dual Core PC I have installed OpenSolaris 2008.11 using Live CD I got from Sun Tech Days in Singapore Now, using all the guidelines I got here at Indiana Discussion, I can''t attach my second drive to rpool to make them mirror Initially I was playing around with similar configuration in VirtualBox, and it does not succeed. Finally

Performance problem with CentOS and XFS on EMC
We have an appliance that uses the CentOS 4.4 Plus kernel with XFS on an EMC RAID array that performs about ? or less as well with cached i/o than with direct i/o. With direct i/o we get about 32Mb/s throughput or better, but if we enable the cache for the EMC RAID, we only get 8Mb/s or less. This doesn't happen if we use JFS, where we get a little less than 32Mb/s throughput with or without

CentOS and EMC PowerPath/Naviagent
Is anyone using CentOS 4.4 with an EMC Clariion SAN? In particular, I want to know if PowerPath and Naviagent will work on a CentOS 4 system connected to a san using Qlogic or Emulex cards. I tried a couple years ago with Fedora Core 1 or 2, and couldn't get the kernel modules from PowerPath to work since the kernel wasn't the official RHEL one. I'm most interested in

EMC migration and zfs
We are going to be migrating to a new EMC frame using Open Replicator. ZFS is sitting on volumes that are running MPXIO. So the controller number/disk number is going to change when we reboot the server. I would like to konw if anyone has done this and will the zfs filesystems "just work" and find the new disk id numbers when we go to zfs import the pool. Our process would be: zfs

Does EMC use Samba for CIFS?
I have heard that EMC might be using a port of Samba for their CIFS protocol. Can anybody support or refute this? Are there any commands that can be issued or any operations that can be performed and sniffed to verify this one way or the other? Thanks, Paul

[Fwd: Re: Ocfs and EMC Powerpath]
That should say below, we are using Powerpath on the CX300's AND the CX600's... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- We are using Powerpath with CX300's and Emulex HBA's, also with OCFS on Red Hat 2.1 AS. Kernel upgrades are the biggest issue that we have, as some of the drivers are dependent on modules built for specific kernels, and if your

ZFS stripe over EMC write performance.
What is the best write performance improvement anyone has seen (if any) on a ZFS stripe over EMC SAN? I''d be interested to hear results for both - striped and non-striped EMC config.

EMC Clariion stanby power supply
Hello All. I'm working on building support for the Clariion range of standby power supplies. I've found you can get hold of these easily on ebay like: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EMC-CLARiiON-Standby-Power-Supply-118031985- SPS-1000W-/160373295258 There is a problem that I haven't been able to work around. After 90 seconds without power, the device shuts down. This is because

EMC/ACBEL Polytech UPS
I have a couple EMC relabled ACBEL/Polytech UPSs which I'm unable to find anything about. What I do know is that ACBEL/Polytech is CoolerMaster, however, they don't make UPSs that I know of. These UPSs were used as part of an EMC Clarion array. Does anyone know anything about these? Thanks, Mark. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Dell EMC 118031985 SPS - nothing but questions
I was wondering if anyone has seen anything like this standby power supply for Dell servers. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200824909297?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 I made up a cable and can connect to it at 9600 baud 8N1. The problem is that all it ever does is respond with a "?" and ends it with a LF it does this whenever it recieves a LF - I'm begining to

Expanding OCFS on EMC MetaLUN's
Just wanted to see if anyone has had the opportunity to expand a MetaLUN on an EMC CLARiiON. The O/S is Red Hat AS 2.1 running Oracle 9i RAC (4 node). The filesystems are a series of LUNs combined into a MetaLUN that is formatted and mounted as OCFS. We are ready to expand a MetaLUN, but wanted to see if anyone has done this "on the fly", ie: Expand the MetaLUNs while the systems are

Problem using Samba to access nfs mount on linux to EMC share from WinXP
Our company recently did a poor job of migrating us to a new EMC system for NAS. We were immediately faced with its inability to translate permissions between UNIX and windows since our company hasn't figured out EMC's secure mode permissions. Since the EMC maintained the proper UNIX permissions, we tried using a samba server on linux to share out an NFS mount of the EMC partition to our

smbclient, kerberos, and EMC
Hi Everyone, I'm trying to get smbclient to cooperate with my new EMC Celerra (just got it a little while ago) using kerberos. My windows domain environment is win2000 + sp4, the EMC is "joined" to the domain. I am using samba 3.0, fresh sources, and MIT KRB5 1.3.4, all freshly built. I join the domain, etc. everything is happy. I use kinit user@REALM to get my initial tgt.

Hi there, have a strange behavior if i?ll create a zfs pool at an EMC PowerPath pseudo device. I can create a pool on emcpower0a but not on emcpower2a zpool core dumps with invalid argument .... ???? Thats my second maschine with powerpath and zfs the first one works fine, even zfs/powerpath and failover ... Is there anybody who has the same failure and a solution ? :) Greets Dominik

Samba 3.6.5 not working with EMC server that only supports NTLM
Samba 3.6.5 client does not train down to plain NTLM if there is no "client ntlmv2 auth = no" statement in the smb.conf file. If the server is configured for just plain NTLM (not NTLMv2), the client will receive a login error, without the smb.conf statement. I know that smbclient 3.6.5 defaults to "client ntlmv2 auth = yes", but the lack of it should be able to login as just
