Intel G33 Compatibility for Centos Server
Been running rock solid servers on Centos 3 and 4 for
years but equipment is starting to die so it is time.
I was thinking along the lines of an Intel Q6600 on an
Asus P5K-VM mobo with the new G33 chipset utilizing
SATA. Is anyone having success with this board or any
of the G33 chipsets where I am not going to run into
all kinds of install problems?

Centos 5.0 Intel G33/P35 Chipset Support (Asus P5K-VM, P5KC)
I have 2 new boxes that I cannot use yet because of
problems supporting these newer chipsets in 5.1. Does
anyone know when the CD version of 5.0 x86-64 that has
support for these chipsets be available on any on a
Centos mirror?
Has the support for these chipsets been added to yum
yet?
Here are my latest results with these chipsets and

Xen and Linux on Intel G33 needs kernel 2.6.19+
Dear,
I''m looking to get Xen running on a system that (afterwards) seems a bit
too new. The board has the Intel G33 chipset with the Intel ICH9
southbridge. This chipset is NOT supported by kernel 2.6.18 which ships
with Xen 3.1.2 (and Debian Etch).
So the question is:
* What version of Xen to install to get going? Should I choose unstable?
* What distribution will be the easiest to get

Centos 5.2 and 2.6.18-92 Kernel backported SATA fixes?
Last year to get motherboards with the G33 chipset with SATA working with Centos I had to either use David Harbic fixes or use Fedora 8 since it had the later 2.6.25 kernel.
I no longer see David's fixes available and also see in the 5.2 release notes "update SATA driver and infrastructure". Did Redhat finally incorporate fixes to full support the new G33 chipset and SATA?

Intel P35 / quad-core support for HPC applications
Hello all,
Does anyone have experience with CentOS and the Intel P35 or G33
chipset? I've googled about and poked in the CentOS forums, but I've
generally found questions without responses.
I'm part of a university research group doing CFD (computational fluid
dynamics). We're incrementally updating our computing power and have
been looking at Intel quad-cores and the P35

Trouble getting all my com-ports (ttyS*)
I just installed CentOS 5.1 on a Dell Vostro 200 (Intel G33) which has a
Sunix PCI-Express (x1) 8-port RS-232 card installed. For me it looks
like only 4 ports are recognized, but I'm not sure if it's even working
with those 4.
>From 'dmesg' I see this:

Current Chipset Compatibility
Can someone make a recommedation as far as best chipset for Centos 5.0 or 5..1 using a Q6600 series CPU?with chipsets that have onboard VGA??
From poking around it looks like the G33 and P35 are not supported or have problems until the newer 2.6.22 kernel (the?iso's appear to be earlier than that, think it was?.18)?? So I am considering boards with the Intel G965 chipset but not sure if is

Xen dom0 and ZFS boot?
Some background - I have a couple of NetBSD (i386) boxes and CentOS 5 boxes that I want to virtualise and I''m trying to work out which OS will be most suitable as the dom0. I have a desire to run at least RAID1 and ideally ZFS mirroring on the dom0 so I can have all the domU''s not have to worry about disk redundancy etc.
My hardware : I have a brand new Intel E8200 core2duo and

Motherboard capable of VT-d
Hi!
I''ve got a motherboard (Gigabyte GA-G33-DS3R) where the Ethernet port has
been broken.
I''ll buy a new motherboard, but wants to keep all my other equipment (CPU,
Memory, TV-cards etc).
The requirements/wishes on the new motherboard are 2 Ethernet ports and 2
PCI slots. It would also be good if it would support VT-d.
I''ve found two boards that would fulfill my

btrfs-related kernel oops due to media error
Hi,
One of my disks, partitioned into a single btrfs partition, is showing
media errors. The problem is that these errors lead to kernel panic from
btrfs - that make the filesystem unusable until reboot - and therefore
it is very hard for me to do a full backup of the data prior to changing
the disk.
My current kernel is 3.2.0-8-generic from Ubuntu/precise (based on linux
3.2-final) but I

Asus P5K-VM & Centos 5.1 x86_64 freezes during yum install
Hello,
I'm trying to complete a minimal install of Centos 5.1 x86_64 on a Core 2
Duo 2.2Ghz
running on an Asus P5K-VM motherboard - yes, this means it's the G33
chipset.
(you can stop laughing now)
I'm installing to two SATA-disks setup with Software Raid-1.
I've installed an Intel NIC that is detected during install and I'm able to
complete the
install itself - mind you I

Kernel panic - em0 culprit?
Hello,
My server is experiencing occasional kernel panics when under moderate
load. I'm attaching a crash dump and the dmesg output. I'm not sure how
to read the kernel backtrace but it looks like the Intel NIC (em0)
caused the problem. Occasionally, I used to get a "em0: watchdog timeout
-- resetting" error message, but I never had a kernel panic. The problem
started last
