VPD information, macros and syslinux
Hi, I would be very interested in a possibility to create variables or macros within syslinux. One of the things I would like to have is a way to query DMI/VPD information, and use that as kernel parameters or to influence eg menu's or boot labels (based on system information). One of those very specific needs is to get the MAC address of the first onboard interface (which is available

Lua.c32 wiki page
Hi, I have been experimenting a bit with lua.c32 and I have created a small lua.c32 wiki page at: http://syslinux.zytor.com/wiki/index.php/Lua.c32 With my minimal knowledge about Lua (and the inconvenience of not being able to copy&paste or edit scripts) I discovered that the dmi module has 2 functions (supported, gettable) and a syslinux module with 1 function (run_command). Do we

Hi All, I am still having troubling with PXE. Thanks for replying Shao.I did follow ur suggestions and my results have improved a bit. From Ethereal and TCPdump, I can see that the client sucessfully dowloads the file pxelinux.0 from the server but stops at this point. here is the output of tcpdump tcpdump: listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 96 bytes 11:05:41.966864 IP

LUA scripting in syslinux
Hi, Can we for syslinux 4.05 look to improve the LUA scripting functionality ? Functionality we are looking for is: - accessing filesystem (ext2, fat) - alternatively, access network services (tftp, ftp, http) - creating menu's from LUA - alternatively, generating and reloading syslinux.cfg The use-case would be to create a lua-script that, on boot, can scan eg. a

FOSDEM 2012
Hi, Probably too late for the main tracks, but it would be nice to see a syslinux-related presentation at FOSDEM 2012. There are a few tracks where syslinux fits in (Configuration and Systems Management, Embedded, Distribution ?) so it shouldn't be hard to get one or more slots. I enjoyed Peter's presence two years ago and it lead to an uptake of the project (I remember Erwan

CPU usage while at syslinux boot prompt
Hi, Today I was contacted by a VMware colleague asking me why my test systems were using almost 100% CPU while waiting for a prompt. He was used to this behaviour for DOS guests :) Apparently the isolinux boot CD that is waiting for another test Linux installation is using about 1.8Ghz of the 2.5Ghz virtual CPU on a VMware ESX 3.0.2 host. Since I have 5 of these VM guests that are used for

"menu quit" entry causing prompt to freeze
Hi, I had one entry in my main menu which looked like: label exit menu label ^Exit menu menu quit Now, I did not expect anyone to type: exit on the boot-prompt. But someone did today and we discovered that isolinux froze (and even ctrl-alt-del did not cause a reboot). Unfortunately in this instance we also found that the RSA adapter was not or incorrectly configured. And we could not

Append line size limit in syslinux 3.72
Hi, Is there still a known limit of 255 characters of the append line in syslinux (isolinux) from the config file ? A quick test showed me that when the APPEND line in the config-file is longer than 255 characters it arrives truncated in Linux. While typing more than 255 characters on the commandline does not cause the same issue and in Linux the kernel commandline exceeds the 255 character

HDT 0.3.6 tests on various systems
Hi Erwan, I finally reviewed the latest HDT 0.3.6 on a few systems (IBM x3650, hs20 and VMware 3.5 guests). = IBM x3650 On the IBM x3650 (using a remote web-based KVM solution) the window blanking (cleaning a window with black before rewriting it with gray/blue content) is very noticable. It would be less of a problem when the window would not be cleared (or at least not with black :-))

Standard file extensions for zipped floppy images
Hi, I was wondering what's the best standard file extension for zipped DOS disk images and ramdisks. I've been using the following standard: .zi kernels, memtest86, memdisk .igz .img.gz zipped floppy images and ramdisks I'd rather have a different extension for ramdisks, maybe .zim zipped floppy images .zrd zipped ramdisks Any ideas ? It would also be nice if syslinux

Returning to syslinux bootloader
Hi, I was wondering whether it is technically possible to go back from eg. DOS or Linux directly to the bootloader (instead of rebooting the hardware). We currently have 2 images (one DOS and one Linux) that need to be started before loading a system. They do things like disable PXE on NICs (using an Intel DOS tool), verify the correctness of the network patchings and validate if the

Last character of the boot prompt gone missing ?
Hi, I think I found a problem with syslinux where if you have an entry in the syslinux config file (eg. linux) and you type some additional parameters on the boot-prompt (eg. noacpi) the last character of the prompt is cut off (and missing from /proc/cmdline). This does not seem to happen for the append line in the config file, only for additional parameters on the boot prompt. (I guess it

Hi, Can we use the same image for external links on the wiki as we are using for Trac ? It is much less obtrusive in pieces of text. Another attempt for a Team page
Hi all, I've updated our Team page a bit, added a table for everyone already there. Now I still don't like the fact that we have the distinction between the Core members (whatever that means) and the others. Some have a @centos.org email address, we could use that as a distinction ? I do think we need to make that page exclusive to people that have some sort of responsibility, and

Merging Documentation and Help pages
Hi, Going over the wiki some more I noticed that the GettingHelp and Documentation page contain the same type of information and could be merged (and reduced) as well. On the FrontPage it is called "Learn" (which I like) and points to the Documentation page. On top it says "Help" and points to the GettingHelp page. I would prefer to keep the Documentation page (or rename

AW: CentOS 5 release for IBM z/Series?
Hi dag! Thx for your reply! So, there will be no release in the near future of centos 5 for Z? At the moment we got a realy small z/linux installation, but i love it. Keeping the TCO as low as we can was necessary to satisfy the decision-maker. So we decided to choos a free linux distribution, centos was a good decicion we thougt. (redhat / fedora was always my favorite flavor *g*) It would

Dovecot RH RPM packages
Hi, I can't remember if I already told you, but I'm building RPM packages of dovecot for RH73, RH80 and RH9. You can find these at: http://dag.wieers.com/packages/dovecot/ Or use apt as described on: http://dag.wieers.com/apt/ I also added a sysv file to the SPEC-file for use with Red Hat. If you add this SPEC-file to your tarball (probably with some custom changes) everyone can
