smbmount appears to subvert access permissions
Hi all,
(1) I wish to mount a SMB share onto my Linux filesystem. When I mount the share, it modifies the permissions on the "mounting directory" allowing other users to gain access to the share, masquerading as the mounting user. Lucky it doesn't give write access to anyone, but read access is bad enough.
Can anyone explain this behaviour? (Example transcript provided below)

Sixtel.net / IAX.CC - Vanity Toll-Free Number
How long does it take to get a vanity number? I signed up for an account,
pre-paid some money, and then placed a vanity number order. I did all of
that around Dec. 31st 2004. They said it would take 2-10 business days. It
is now Feb. 15th and still no vanity number. I've called them about a dozen
times and every time they tell me to keep calling the number to check it and
just wait. I'm

where can i get a vanity DID?
>From what I understand if I have an asterisk pbx set
up, I can also get a vanity DID.
1) Where I get the DID from does not matter, my voip
provider can use the DID i ask them to. Is this
correct?
2) What place has good vanity DID's?
3) Do toll free DID's save me or the person calling me
money? Or are toll free DIDS more expensive?
4) Where can I get a good vanity DID. I would

SOLVED: Digium TE405 card and Matra PBX
Hello asterisk-users,
I have solved interconnection between Digium TE405 and Matra PBX.
I plug this card to another computer and with the same
configuration parameters card now works without problem.
First server has 2xPIII/1GHz and 256MB of RAM, Adaptec SCSI
adapter and SCSI system disk. I don't know now, what chipset it
was, but mainboard was from Supermicro, then I pretend Intel
chipset.

Sixtel.net / IAX.CC - Vanity Toll-Free Numbe r
Hi,
I've tried to make toll-free DID work for the last 2-3 weeks. Apparently
only the IAX.CC/Sixtel personnel can make a call to my toll-free. Anybody
else just gets a busy signal. It takes for them about 5-6 business days to
respond to my request. It seems they are looking in the once a week to the
High priority tickets.
It also seems that they are permanently closed ! No matter when I

Two "pre-migration" questions
I have read the migration docs. They seem to relate to migrating from one
imap product to dovecot on the same server. I'm interested in migrating my
Maildir-formatted email from one server to another.
1. Can I tar my ~/mail directory on serverX.com, untar it on a different
physical serverY.com (initially with a different domain name), and still see
my mail when I access imap.serverY.com

Any long-time CentOS users on list using Ubuntu as well?
I've gotten roped into helping a local charity with some
computing/infrastructure snafus. It seems their last good Samaritan
installed Ubuntu all over the place and is "unavailable" now to clean up
the mess. CentOS has made me somewhat lazy because everything just
works out of the box for the most part and you've got the occasional
"yum update". :) These are

I checked Best Buy again. The second system I recommended is in stock
at the Best Buy in Warwick. It's on sale for $353. :)

I'm thinking about getting out of Dodge today to unwind so if you pick
it up early today I can come up and help you install it and then just
come home later in the day.

How NuFone.Net's customer service works.
Hello All,
I have been using asterisk for some time, and I would like for all
to take a look at what NuFone does when they get something called out
about their website. I ordered a 800 number from them on 3/4/05, they
did not make me aware of the time that they took in provisioning and how
terrible their support was. I called them on Tuesday 3/8/05 asked for a
phone call because the

OT: (a) Biostar or MSI mainboard? (b) all Celeron CPU's OK?
(a) Mark (mhr) suggested I buy a bare bones box, when I reported the
problem with the mainboard in this Dell Dimension 2400 box. Possibly I
can have the mainboard repaired (and the PSU, if it is also having
problems), and if so, I will give this one to my Stepson and go the
bare bones box route and have a more powerful box for myself. I looked
at two (2) very low end Desktop mainboards in the

benchmarking large RAID arrays
I'm just wondering what folks are using to benchmark/tune large arrays
these days. I've always used bonnie with file sizes 2-3 times physical
RAM. Maybe there's a better way?
Cheers,

[AMDGPU] AMDGPUAsmParser fails to parse several instructions
Dear Developers,
I compile a OpenCL kernel, FFT, in AMDAPP SDK v2.5 using clang 3.8 + libclc
and assembling the code with lld (The LLVM linker). The assembly code
contains the following assembly codes (and lots of other similar format
assembly) that fails to be parsed by AMDGPUAsmParser. It seems to me that
both are valid instructions after looking at the SI instruction spec.

32-bit vs 64-bit CentOS on 64-bit hardware
I was asked this question today and frankly, I didn't know the answer.
So I thought I'd post it here....
If you don't need to access greater than 4GB RAM, is there any benefit
to running the 64-bit version of CentOS vs the 32-bit one? That's
assuming, of course, that the target machine utilizes a 64-bit capable
processor. I hadn't seen any noticeable difference, but I

Newbie Trying To Get Ghost Recon To Install
Hello,
I'm new to using WINE (and to these lists), so I apologize if this has
been asked and answered already: Has anyone been able to get Ghost Recon
to at least install? The autorun program came up just fine, but when I
click the button to install, it promptly quits. I tried running the
setup.exe program directly, and it gets as far as trying to setup and
install shield wizard, and then

[INFO] SMS Aggregators
Awhile ago, I posted some information about SMS Aggregators, this is
just a follow-up, based on changes in the US market.
As of January 31st, any commercial application, sending to US
networks, is required to lease a CSC (short code) from CTIA.
A CSC runs $6000/year for a random code, and $12,000/year for a
vanity code.
These charges are on top of the normal per message fees.

Bandwidth limiting
Since shapecfg is no longer part of the distro what are people using in
place of cbq to limit/throttle bandwidth? I have an ftp mirror that, if
left unchecked, will suck up the entire bandwidth of the CoLo site.
TIA,
