question on software raid
dmesg is not reporting any issues. The /proc/mdstat looks fine. md0 : active raid1 sdb1[1] sda1[0] X blocks [2/2] [UU] however /var/log/messages says: smartd[3392] Device /dev/sda 20 offline uncorrectable sectors The machine is running fine.. raid array looks good - what is up with smartd? THanks, Jerry

Compaq V2000 laptop no USB recognized
To continue here with problems on this compaq v2000 laptop, I put kernel source on a USB disk and plugged it into the v2000. NOTHING IS recognized. I tried to manually mount the disk and nothing either... I thought USB was well established.... I thought trying to recompile the kernel for realtek support might get my networking going... I am stuck??? Jerry -------------- next part

Raid with one disk?
Is it possible to set up a single disk raid (kind of redundant to call a single disk an array) but I've got a single SATA drive in the machine not doing anything. It's a 10k maxtor 74G drive, and what I really want is just to backup two home partitions. I can always reinstall the OS, but the data can't be recovered that easily. The mobo supports raid-0,1 and jbod. Suggestions? --

Software RAID1 Failure Help
I am running software RAID1 on a somewhat critical server. Today I noticed one drive is giving errors. Good thing I had RAID. I planned on upgrading this server in next month or so. Just wandering if there was an easy way to fix this to avoid rushing the upgrade? Having a single drive is slowing down reads as well, I think. Thanks. Turning root partition into a RAID array
I have a CentOS 4.2 system that was set up VERY quickly following the demise of its former life as a CentOS 3 server - you don't want the full story, but it had to be done quickly to get a company up and working following a slight disaster involving an electrician, a portable appliance safety tester and a pulled power cable - anyway, here's where I am at... Everything is running fine but

software raid 1 failure
Hi All, I had a machine with software RAID-1 have a disk crash. I am attempting to get the data off the good disk. Using a USB to SATA device I plugged it into another machine. I tried many things to mount it, to mdadm add it but could not get it to cooperate. Another thought I had is can I use fdisk to change the "type" of the partition from "linux raid" to "linux"

Software RAID Level 1, smartd and changing dev numbers
We have about 50 CentOS servers with software RAID level 1 (mirroring). Each week, we swap out one of the drives (the one in the second of four hot-swap bays, only the first two of which contain drives) on each server and take them offsite for safekeeping. The problem is, the kernel seemingly randomly switches between /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc for these devices. This makes the process slower by

CentOS 7: software RAID 5 array with 4 disks and no spares?
Hi, I just replaced Slackware64 14.1 running on my office's HP Proliant Microserver with a fresh installation of CentOS 7. The server has 4 x 250 GB disks. Every disk is configured like this : * 200 MB /dev/sdX1 for /boot * 4 GB /dev/sdX2 for swap * 248 GB /dev/sdX3 for / There are supposed to be no spare devices. /boot and swap are all supposed to be assembled in RAID level 1 across

question on software raid-1
I have a system that is RAID -1 configured as /dev/md0 is /dev/hda1 /dev/hdb1 /dev/md1 is /dev/hdb3 /dev/hdb3 it seems as though /dev/hda has failed.... I have another disk (identical model) that I can replace hda with. I know about the commands fdisk to repartion and raidhotadd /dev/md0 /dev/hda1 and raidhotadd /dev/md1 /dev/hda3 (to be ran after the system boots). BUT... how do I now get
