Upstream vendor's diskless vs LTSP
Hello all,
I have a customer that insists of using upstream vendor's diskless
(system-config-netboot) rather than LTSP. The reason is that he wants to use
a 100% packages from the vendor, not from LTSP or any other party.
I try the vendor's diskless system, and although it's very simple to setup, it
lacks the support and/or documentation whereas LTSP is very good in it.

Alan,
I knew of the Dell article, as I have all of those saved for reference.
[1] I was just wondering if you knew of any that were for someone knew
to Linux. You know the Microsoft type tutorials that have screenshot
with them. That's the question I get asked a lot of times from around my
home area.
In turn when these users that are new to Linux they get discouraged when
they can't

Anyone got Diskless BOOT working under CentOS ???
Im trying to get a diskless boot set up under CentOS 5.2, and having no luck
at all.
I am to the point of running system-config-netboot, and whatever information
I put in, I get an error message.
Responding to the 2nd button on the first popup, which asks for NFS info,
I put in the IP address of the current machine (the machine that will hold
the boot images for the diskless machine) and the

memdisk and winPE diskless boot
Hi,
I am working on the diskless booting over Infiniband networks. At the moment
we have created and implemented architecture which allow diskless booting
of Linux nodes on x86, x86_64 and Itanium platforms.
The system works by booting first small custom made Linux kernel of the
Infiniband adapter ROM. The kernel has enough of infiniband stack to setup
TCP/IP networking over infiniband. Then it

Diskless client from system-config-netboot doesn't boot.
Hi folks,
I've followed a set of instructions I found on
http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/centos_linux_guides/centos_enterprise_linux_sysadmin_guide/ch-diskless.htmli
which describes using system-config-netboot to set up PXE booting.
I used a CentOS-4.3 install (custom, all options de-selected, then
anaconda-busybox installed after the fact) as a reference/base. I
followed the

PXELINUX 2.0 diskless booting RedHat 9.0
I'm trying to boot RedHat 9.0 on a diskless PC from a head machine
running Redhat 9.0.
The network appears to be setup correctly. I can boot the installation
disk image fine using pxelinux.
What I am trying to setup is a number of different Linux systems each
with its own root directory on the head machine. I am hoping that I
don't have to modify the kernel for any of these systems.

Read only nfsroot and diskless booting CentOS 6?
Does anyone have any good how-to's or documentation on setting up read only root NFS for pxe booting diskless computers? A few months ago I stumbled upon an official Redhat doc through a google search(not hosted by redhat and I cannot find it anywhere on the Redhat site) written by Dave Kline named "Configuring diskless clients with Red Hat Enterprise Linux" from 2011. It seemed to

PXE-bootable diskless Asterix distro?
Hello
Since I got the IBM Netvista to boot Linux, and am still waiting for
the Compact Flash cards that I ordered, I was wondering if someone
knew of an Asterisk distribution that can run on that kind of diskless
host?
I've taken a look at AstLinux and AskoziaPBX, but they both seem to be
meant to be installed on a solid-state medium instead of RAM. For
instance, the Netvista is unable to

Diskless xen
Hello,
I want to implement a diskless xen hypervisor. The way I suppose it will work is xen booted over pxe and
getting iscsi san storage to store vm images.
Is solution like that usable ?

Problem with PXEBOOT of diskless client -- fails to mount RAMDISK
I am having a problem with setting up diskless clients under CentOS 5.2.
I have everything working under CentOS 4.7. This is an adaptation of
the (somewhat old) Diskless Linux with PXE HOWTO by Gerd v. Egidy,
originally at the URL
http://www.intra2net.com/opensource/diskless-howto/, which is now defunt
(there is a mirror of it at

Diskless Clients
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi guys,
Someone on the list today was asking about diskless clients. I have a
guide written for doing diskless clients across NFS and PXE. I noticed
there was nothing existing on the wiki for such a thing.
I wanted to ask before I created the main category "Diskless Clients"
under the How To page. Any objections to that there? Or suggest

diskless windows
Hi. I wanted to set diskless win95 but I read the list archives
and I decided not to do it diskless.
So I tried diskless windows but I got a problem.
I do this.
1.- I did booting images with bootware proms.
2.- I managed to install DOS clients from microsoft. That was painfull
because the one I downloaded from MS didn't connected to
my samba server. I used a dos clients that creates a NT

PXEBoot/Diskless client NFS issue
Hey CentOS list!
I've got an oddity with a diskless client setup that I suspect is the
result of the initrd.img I'm using, or some parameter I'm unaware -- or I
need to build my own initrd image (and could use some assistance on what
has to be done in that department)
Testbed is defined as:
VM A:
ip: 192.168.250.10 with dhcp server, tftp server, nfs server
VM B:

Booting Diskless Workstations
I made a post in the Fedora list that didn't yield much help regarding this.
I need to use a CentOS5.1 server to remotely boot a few Fedora 9
workstations. I have the option of using straight PXE, or even reflashing
gPXE to the LOM for the clients. What I am interested in knowing is the
best approach to this.
1. Should I just do iSCSI backed diskless setups? Probably doesn't scale well.

Xen Install
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/InstallingCentOSDomU In reading that
How To, will using the GUI Configuration Tools create all the files need
to run a "DomU". Will I have manual edit any configuration files?
Next question is the machine has 256MBs of ram and Dom0 uses about
225MBs of it. Is that a bit much? VmWare Server does not use that much
ram. See #top Below....With out running
