RoadRunner
I use SIP over VPN with RR from TWC no problem, connect via WiFi.
According to http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ I am getting 3.5Mbps
down and 353Kbps up at this time (6:15pm Saturday). My laptop currently
has an X-Lite (free version) softphone with GN Netcom USB professional
contact center headsets (GN8110 USB XP adapter). We have found that the
headset makes a major difference in the quality

Samba with a Win9x network and RoadRunner
Hi everyone...I'm at a dead stop setting up Samba, so let me jump right into
the problem:
First, the setup: I have a RH7.3 box and a W98 laptop. The RH box also has
a W2k Pro partition. We have them on a 4-port 10base-T hub along with our
RoadRunner cable modem.
Now on to the problem: As most of you are already aware, RR uses DHCP to
assign IP addresses to client machines at boot time.

Samba and roadrunner/remote access?
I have samba setup for our department and it's working fine, with mounting
drives and using printers...
now I want to be able to do the same thing for all faculty with roadrunner
access from home.
I've put the ip xxx.xxx. of the local road runner in the smb.conf file for
hosts to allow, and the machine knows about the server by adding it to
c:\windows\lmhosts.sam

Migrating from NT4 print server to Samba print server
Hello,
I was hoping someone could help me with migrating printers from a WinNT4 print server to a Samba server. I have searched the web for days and haven't found a solution. I am running Slackware 10.1; kernel 2.4.29. I upgraded Samba to 3.0.21c recently and I am using LPR v3.8.28 as my print spooler.
Here is the response from the 'rpc migrate printers' command:

drop manitu.net
listadmin,
Can you PLEASE, PLEASE find *any* other blacklist than manitu? This
asshole's method was ok a dozen years ago; these days, with hosting sites
hosting tens or hundreds of thousands of domains, with too many running
Windows, and so infected and sending out spam. They then send all mail via
one mailhost, with the result that those of us with *no* spam coming out
are frequently

tsan_interface_java.h; any users? reviving https://github.com/google/java-thread-sanitizer?
The interface files you see are for a prototype of Java Tsan that's
internal to Google. It's for use by a JDK that we customized with extensive
JVM patches, and enables running the Tsan engine on Java and native code
simultaneously.
We presented this prototype recently at the JVM Language Summit. Here's the
talk:

Network slowdown
Hello,
I''m not subscribed to this list, but would like to ask a question.
When I conduct a network speed test from the following location
http://www.timewarnerla.com/speedtest/speedtest.asp with firewall started I
get no more than 1 Mbps at best, while without one I get 4 Mbps.
I have a RCA DCM325 cable modem from RoadRunner.
I''m using Shorewall 2.2.0-Beta3.
My OS is SuSe 9.1

How to have failover sip interface?
My asterisk machine has 2 nic's. One nic (ETH0) is connected to a cable
modem. The other nic (ETH1) is connected to an internal lan. The
internal lan also has access to the internet.
The cable service, Time-Warner RoadRunner, is great when up, but is not
reliable. And sip connections are excellent. The connection through the
internal lan (Verizon DSL) is reliable but lousy. Sigh.

Can't display ".." with the p8 release
Hello,
I ask this question last week but I got no response :
I have installed the 1.9.18p8 release on my HP9000 ( HP-UX
10.20 ). I use the same smb.conf than with the p2 release . I have now
a problem with the Windows 3.11 clients : In the subdirectories of
each share, I can't display the " .. " root directory ( but it works
). Is it a bug

This is a test of Nixnet blocking
Most of the time since last Thursday or so, that piece of crap called
Nixnet (ix.manitu) has been blocking my hosting provider's mailservers.
I did ask, when I talked to support last week, and they host *millions* of
domains. They do not have a million techs (neither does google - but I'm
*sure* none of you have ever gotten spam from google mail, right?).
Again, I'll give my argument

Auth error in log
Hi,
I have a setup with Dovecot handling a few virtual domains delivering
mails to both local Unix account mailboxes and seperate mailboxes for
virtual users defined in a MySQL database. A quick overview of the
configuration shows two passdb definitions:
auth default {
mechanisms = plain login
passdb pam {
args = dovecot
}
passdb sql {
args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql.conf
}

VoIP experiences with Cable and DSL
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
A thought occurred to me;
Background;
In the early days of cable, the cable people seemed clueless to things like
over selling bandwidth. But as time went along they got it better and better
under control.
Of course their natural competitor, DSL, created a bigger demand for them to
get things under control.
Today cable is often giving

Actual complaining: nixspam
John accused me of complaining about systemd... this here's *real*
complaining.
Several times every month, my email starts getting bounced by freakin'
nixspam, because my giant hosting provider, that hosts millions of
domains. Akemi has argued that nixspam works just fine (if so, then why
did we get that spam a few weeks ago?).
I've politely requested being put on a whitelist, and

IPTables log analizer
Tom\All
Has anyone heard of this log analizer and have it up and running? If so is
it easy to setup and use?
Description form this page http://gege.org/iptables/
IPTables log analizer (TODO : find a nice name for it) displays Linux 2.4
iptables logs (rejected, acepted, masqueraded packets...) in a nice HTML
page (it support rough netfilter logs but also Shorewall and Suse Firewall
logs).

Create new data frame with conditional sums
Under the hood, sapply() is also a loop (at the interpreted level). As
is lapply(), etc.

self signed ssl cert on C5
Hi,
Does anyone have a pointer to correct documantation for generating and
installing a self signed ssl cert for use on httpd on a C-5 machine?
The docs say to use genkey but AFAIK upstream rm'd crypto-utils from the
distro and as such it is not available. I tried generating the cert on a C-4
machine using genkey and installing on the C-5 machine but I get the following

FLAC and Window 7 64bit
I have used FLAC and FLAC Frontend on my windows XP machine for years but I
cannot get it to run on my Windows 7 64bit machine for some reason. I have
installed FLAC.exe and FLAC Frontend and I can load the .wav files into the
Frontend and when I click on encode I get the command line screen for about
two seconds and then it disappears and that's as far as I can get. I don't
get any error

Shorewall-1.3.13
Just some stuff that was laying around in CVS:
1. Added ''DNAT-'' target.
2. Print policies in ''check'' command.
3. Added CLEAR_TC option.
4. Added SHARED_DIR option.
[teastep@wookie Shorewall]$ cat releasenotes.txt
This is a minor release of Shorewall that has a couple of new features.
New features include:
1) A new ''DNAT-'' action has been

Create new data frame with conditional sums
Well, here's one way to do it:
(dat is your example data frame)
Cutoff <- seq(0, .15, .01)
Pop <- with(dat, sapply(Cutoff, \(p)sum(Totpop[Pct >= p])))
I think there must be a more efficient way to do it with cumsum(), though.
Cheers,
Bert
