Strange "no-echo" in place of "slave"
The first of Suharno's examples can be viewed that way, because R under ESS is not a "slave" in the technical sense, just a situation where you do not want keyboard input to be echoed. "Non-echoing" might have been better language though. The 2nd example really is of the master/slave variety, and to my knowledge nothing to do with echoing, so looks like a

Strange "no-echo" in place of "slave"
As far as I know, not being involved with the effort at all, they are removing the term 'slave' and replacing it with 'no-echo' which is intended to be fully synonmyous with the meaning of the old 'slave' term. ~G On Sun, Oct 6, 2019 at 10:56 PM suharto_anggono--- via R-devel < r-devel at r-project.org> wrote: > SVN revision replaces "slave" with

compiling on snow leopard: Cocoa errors?!?!?!
Dear R-gurus, I'm trying to compile R on my new mac. It's snow leopard. So far I've seemed to be doing pretty well. I've looked at http://cran.r-project.org/bin/macosx/tools/ http://r.research.att.com/exp/ http://r.research.att.com/building.html http://r.research.att.com/tools/ All of which have been very helpful. R without graphics
Is it possible to configure and build an R without any graphics support. I..e no grDevices or graphics packages? I tried "--with-x=no --with-cairo=no --with-grDevices=no --with-graphics=no" but it is still building grDevices. My problem is that I am using experimenting with a compiler that cannot compile the Objective-C file, qdCocoa.m, and I don't need graphics for this

rterm not shutting down from ESS on Win32
I've been having problems with Rterm.exe not shutting down when I exit an R (1.7.0 and 1.7.1) session from within emacs when using ESS. I've just upgraded to 5.1.24 and still have the same problems. I'm running ntemacs and winxp. I don't recall having these troubles with version 1.6.2 of R. Jeff. --- Jeff D. Hamann Hamann, Donald and Associates, Inc. PO Box 1421 Corvallis, Oregon

R-beta: [WIN95] Running R from the shell
Is it possible to run R soley from the shell? I'm evaluating necessary fixes to R and XLispStat (and eventually SAS and S-PLUS 4) for running as subprocesses to Emacs (NTEmacs) for ESS. Currently, I lose control of R when running via Emacs; is it possible to "remove" the windows? (all, or all but the graphics window)? best, -- -tony (Anthony Rossini) Statistics

Questions from a beginner.
I have used S-PLUS for years. Now I am learning to use R in Windows'98. I downloaded the latest version and installed it as instructed. However, I cannot find answers from online help to the following questions I encountered. If any of you has quick answers to these questions, please drop me a couple of lines. Thanks. 1. Why does R change my working directory during a session? I often used

Still no luck on command line parse
Thanks, bjornr, however your suggestion to try: wine "C:\Program Files\intuit\qbtimer\qbtimer.exe" gave the same result as the other command lines I tried. All invoke the qbtimer program and all get the same error from qbtimer: Can't find timer file "Files/intuit/qbtimer.exe" ... So wine properly finds the qbtimer.exe file. The error arises after the program is

Brace highlighting in R for the PC?
Hey everyone, Might it be possible for future versions of PC-R to highlight the opening brace in a pair, a la emacs? Programs that do that are infinitely friendlier than those that don't. ess
i am using r 1.1.0 and ess 5.1.13 on win2k (with an amd k7). things behave strangely. i can start r with M-x R and i can give a command the command will be executed and i will get the answer, but i will not get a prompt for entering the next command in most cases. when i do graphics command, things are even more surprising. then i get a prompt, but somtimes the graphics window cannot be brought

factor(x, exclude=y) if x is a factor
I found this part in the documentation of 'factor'. 'factor(x, exclude=NULL)' applied to a factor is a no-operation unless there are unused levels: in that case, a factor with the reduced level set is returned. If 'exclude' is used it should also be a factor with the same level set as 'x' or a set of codes for the levels to be excluded.

R run under Emacs fatal errors halt execution
I am running R.exe/Rterm.exe 2.7.1 under Emacs 22.1 under the DOS shell under Windows XP. (My Cygwin installation is broken!) I am not currently using ESS: > R.exe --vanilla R version 2.7.1 ... ... > 1+1 2 This works fine until I hit an R error -- pretty much any error -- when the process halts and returns to the shell: Wrong number of arguments error: > quote()

RE: Gnuserv, NTEmacs, Windows 2000 and R
The following becomes more and more a topic for an R mailing list, possibly R-devel. R for Windows crashes are important and should be discussed and debugged with the experts -- which are not reading ESS-help AFAIK. Undocumented 'use.names' argument to c()
By "an argument named 'use.names' is included for concatenation", I meant something like this, that someone might try. > c(as.Date("2016-01-01"), use.names=FALSE) use.names "2016-01-01" "1970-01-01" See, 'use.names' is in the output. That's precisely because 'c.Date' doesn't have 'use.names', so

Removal of ans[nas] <- NA from the code of function 'ifelse' in R is not committed (yet). Error compiling R.2.8.1 with gcc 4.4 on Mac OS 10.5.6
Hi all, I've encountered a build error with the latest R source (2.8.1). This is a relatively fresh install of OS Leopard (10.5.6), latest developer tools installed, gcc/g++/gfortran version 4.4 installed (via http://hpc.sourceforge.net/, after which I updated the gcc & g++ symlinks to link to the 4.4 versions; gfortran used the 4.4 version without updating the symlink). Ultimately I

Yes, they work now.
