artist and song for mp3 streams?; and, canonical list of legal value-ofs that can be used in XSLT!
Hello, Iceys! Two related questions here. First, I've just finished a little icecast -> twitter script that's working nicely, and I've also discovered quite a bit about icecast (the main thing is that it's dead easy to set up on Ubuntu - I got a working radio station the first time with almost no debugging! Good job, guys.) Now, on mp3 streams I only get a value for

IceCast and ICES
I?ve successfully implemented IceCast on a Raspberry Pi and can access the stream ONLY if I use an ffmpeg statement to start the stream. Unfortunately, the stream is choppy and the sound quality is poor. I?ve tried using ICES, but I don?t get any sound. Terminal command that works: ffmpeg -ac 2 -f alsa -i hw:0,0 -acodec mp3 -ab 48k -ac 2 -content_type audio/mpeg -f mp3 icecast://source:password

Question about artist name display
All of my MP3's on my computer are categorized in folders named by the artist. I don't have any id tags on my MP3's. So all that is shown is the song title in the status section. My question is, is there any way to have icecast go out and grab the folder name so that the artist name will appear in the status window? Also I use an m3u playlist to do the job. thanks Chris

adding song metadata
What is the best way to add song metadata (artist, album, title, etc.) to flac files? I want to be able to define an arbitrary number of FIELD=value pairs. Earlier I heard someone mention using id3 tags. I tried this with the command-line "id3v2", and while it seemed to work I noticed that the resulting file no longer began with "fLaC", which violates the format

Displaying song titles
OK, I'm a clueless newbie...I'm using icecast on a colocated server as a mirror to my shoutcast server. Everything works ok, but the only info shown in winamp is the stream title (station ID) when connecting to the mirror. The shoutcast server displays song info as it should, but the mirror is not parsing it. How do I set things up to display currently playing song and artist and

Help with nested form: User and Artist
Artist is 1:1 with User. User has_one :artist In my artist model, I have: belongs_to :user accepts_nested_attributes_for :user However, in my artist _form, the name column from the user model does not display. I am doing: <% f.fields_for :user do |builder| %> <p class="fields"> <%= builder.label :name %> <%= builder.text_field :name %>

Sending artist - title - album metadata
Another correspondent here has pointed out that: > Recently Stream Licensing LLC has changed their requirements so that > streaming internet stations in the US must stream the album [name] > along with the song title and artist. We are also in this particular boat. We are using Centova Cast which uses Liquidsoap as its AutoDJ and Centova say that if the album tag is stored in the file

ARTIST added to Jonthan's tag proposal
Jonathan added to the proposal the following definition: ARTIST for information to be displayed on systems with limited display capabilities. it is not a replacement for the ENSEMBLE and PERFORMER tags, but typically will summarize them. As I understand the aim is to provide more compatibility with players (especially portable) that are so dumb as to display only "ARTIST",

Special Characters in artist field
Hi, I began to encode my CD collection into the ogg format today, but I ran into a little, minor problem. Certain characters don't work, for example "björk" comes out as something like "BjAPrk" 'P' being a paragraph symbol. I'm pretty sure it's an ogg problem as ogginfo outputs: ... artist=Björk ... Is there anyway to fix this, or a fix planned

Need help for a quick fun t-shirt/polo project - graphics artist wanted
Hey, I got a friend that makes custom T-Shirts/Polo's. Well, he has a very expensive printer and a heat press. He's offered to make me some shirts, maybe w/ my name on the cuff and some kind of graphic on the front or back. I wanted to make some VoIP Shirts, maybe some with just the word VoIP and others with VoIP and Asterisk, like w/ the Asterisk logo. If anybody is a good graphics

Artist and title info
>Tracks get listed like that in all players. >Since I'm not on the dev team, I'm assuming it's only for the beta, and >only >while they are still working on a tag system. Actually, artist and track info can be stored in a file, and if it's present I know that at least the WinAmp plug-in can read and display it. It's really just a matter of the encoder storing

dropped at change of song and...
I'm running Icecast 2.2.0 on a Windows 2000 server. I'm using Winamp with the SAM encoder plugin to stream an Ogg Vorbis stream (-0.55 quality stereo) from a remote machine. I'm having two problems. 1. The latest Winamp works great. Whamb on OSX works also (but no Title/Artist info shows up). But on other players (Zinf and Audion [OS9 and OSX]) it works great for one song. At song
