cyberpower ups need to manully turn on the switch
Hi
I am using centos 6.3, and nut-2.6.5-2.el6.x86_64.
could you explain why not sending "a delayed command to the UPS to turn it
off" may cause that issue?
I saw:
ups.delay.shutdown: 20
ups.delay.start: 30
is it something related?
thanks

AW: executable on /etc/rc.local doesn't start
Do you have any logfile output? First check whether the environment
(JAVA_HOME for example) is set before calling
/usr/apache-tomcat-5.5.17/bin/startup.sh. For example
<<<< snip
#!/bin/bash
export JAVA_HOME=/opt/jdk1.5.0_05_x86_64
bin/startup.sh
>>>> snip

RedHat sshd.init script typo ?
Hi,
I noticed one small possible error in the
openssh-2.3.0p1/contrib/redhat/sshd.init script.
In the stop option:
stop)
echo -n "Shutting down sshd: "
if [ -f $PID_FILE ] ; then
killproc sshd
[ $RETVAL -eq 0 ] && rm -f /var/lock/subsys/sshd

starting a java application as a service
I have a single requirement to launch a java application on startup
as a service. The application is shipped in a file called jes.jar.
It requires three arguments: a dotted quad IP address, an initial
service port, and a translated service port.
I can get the application running as a console command. Can
someone point me to a site that documents how to script a sys V
init.d style script

ipset module loaded at startup on CentOS 6.5
Anybody on here successfully get ipset iptables sets to work _after_ a
reboot?
My question on StackExchange
http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/149536/upon-bootup-all-iptables-are-lost-because-the-kernel-module-ip-set-is-not-loade
Some of the things that need to be in place, otherwise iptables does not
load:
1.) The kernel module ip_set needs to be loaded.
2.) The "sets" need to be

RH init scripts busted ?
Hi,
I''m just getting started with puppet, and using the RPMS provided
(on CentOS 4.3), and RedHat''s killproc is annoying me again.
The process is called ''ruby'' instead of ''puppetmasterd''.
$ ps 7869

So, service puppetmaster

dovecot.spec
hi,
I'm just recoginze that dovecot contains an rpm spec file. unfortunately
it's not too useful since an
rpm -ta dovecot-.x.y.tar.gz
can't be used since just the dovecot.spec.in is in the tarbar and not
the actual spec file (which is in this from not useful in the above
form). anyway here is my patch to the spec.in.

When to restart samba
If I understand correctly, in order to have the smb.conf file applied
you need to restart smbd.
Is "service smbd reload" sufficient (which does a "killproc smbd -HUP")?
Will this kill any active connections to samba resources causing user
disruption? Or is this a seamless process that can be carried out
midday?
I ask because if I need to kill all user connections to

Help: Icecast running multiple times on Cent-OS
I'm not the most experience Linux user on the block so please excuse
me if this is an easy fix.
I noticed the other day while looking at my
active services that Icecast has started more than once on my server.
I'm wondering if someone would be able to look at my config and tell me
why this is happening, or how to stop this from happening. My guess is
that since I'm binding to an IP,

Music on Hold
Does anybody have a good source for hold music? I can see a number of
companies on the web that sell royalty-free MOH, but they don't all provide
samples. The customer service desk has requested "calming, not sleeping,
but calming" and "this is a high-tech company, so make it 'techie' [sic]".
Thanks,

AIX starting and stopping samba from command line
All:
I am running on an AIX 5.3 platform and I am looking to see if anybody has a script similar to this (see below) that will work under AIX.
My goal is, on boot up I want to have samba started automatically. Can somebody let me what I have to do (on AIX) for this to happen.
#!/bin/sh
#
# /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb - starts and stops SMB services.

How are people managing startup/shutdown of winbindd?
Greetings,
I realize many people will never use winbindd, and thus it will likely not
get included in /etc/init.d/samba (on my Debian system; your file may vary)
by default, so another solution seems in order.
It's not as important to be able to start and stop winbindd now that it's
getting more robust, but I'd still like something.
How are y'all out there in Samba land
