Mailing list <-> forum gateway
Hi all, First off - this is not flame bait or a troll. It's a genuine question. Since the forum gateway was introduced, it is my opinion that this list is getting flooded with newbie questions. Check the "I just installed Ubuntu" thread for a typical example. I wish to silently remove all wine-forum posts and their replies from my inbox. I plan to filter based on From:

Using objectname in function
Is there anyway I can convert a vectors objectname to a string to be used in fx: Monkey<-c(0,0,0,1,1,1) Wax<-c(1,0,1,0,1,0) f<-function(x,y){ table(x,y) } f(Monkey,Wax) so that the printout is not y x 0 1 0 1 2 1 2 1 but Wax Monkey 0 1 0 1 2 1 2 1 -- View this message in context:

Reading large, non-tabular files
Dear R-help, I have a very large ascii data file, of which I only want to read in selected lines (e.g. on fourth of the lines); determining which lines depends on the lines content. So far, I have found two approaches for doing this in R; 1) Read the file line by line using a repeat-loop and save the result in a temporary file or a variable, and 2) Read the entire file and filter/reshape it using

Deviance in Zero inflated models
Dear list, I am running some zero inflated models and would like to know what the deviance of the models. Unlike running a normal GLM where the deviance is displayed in the summary all that is displayed in a summary of the zero inflated model is the log likelihood. I hope this isn't a read the manual question, and if it is I apologize for wasting your time, but if you could still send me a

Log file of building vignette in RCMD check
Hello, I am trying to run "RCMD check" on a package. It performs OK, with the exception of a single warning: * checking package vignettes in 'inst/doc' ... WARNING Package vignette(s) without corresponding PDF: AnnotationFuncsUserguide.Rnw As I understand the problem, the vignette is not built. However, I have no problems in doing so manually. How do I fix this problem? I

Broken pipe with 2.2.8a and Solaris 2.5.1
The source code seems to compile fine but when I try to join the NT4 domain I get a broken pipe error and it stops. The command I am using is smbpasswd -j (whatever) -r ( whatever) -U ( whatever). I am using gcc version 2.95 and I think I have all the other libraries needed but not sure. Using the same software on a Solaris 2.7 it works fine. Philip Clark C4I Analyst CSC MARCORSYSCOM

Uninstalling Wine...
Hi, I'm a bit out of my depth here but I've installed Wine (on Ubuntu 7.10) and then installed Dragon but the Dragon installation has gone pear-shaped and now I can't re-install it or un-install it. Is there any procedure for un-installing the whole shooting matching, wine and all, and starting again from scratch? Is it enough to delete the .wine folder or is it more complicated

Hi, I am a little lonely as R users in my group. So, I would like to know which editor is the most used in the R community. This post is some kind of survey. Personally, I use Emacs with ESS, It permits to : - open more than one R session - split the emacs editor as many part as you want. - use a lot of keybindings. ... Windows Kernel & Executive implementation
Hello everyone, my name is Volodymyr, I am driver developer mostly doing stuff for Windows. I discovered that WineHQ project does not have support for drivers (am I wrong?). In other words, quite a big amount of applications will fail to function properly, because many of them are using helper device drivers to get some extended functionality. I can just mention RegMon, FileMon, TDIMom, and

Higher Ed/University users of Asterisk? Free gift!
Hi - We've received a request for some contacts of people in the University/higher education systems who have recently or quietly implemented Asterisk. I have some on my press contact list, and some that I just know personally, but I'm sure there is quite a list that are less obvious and are "just working". I know or a fact there are hundreds out there, but the
