Mailing list <-> forum gateway
Hi all, First off - this is not flame bait or a troll. It's a genuine question. Since the forum gateway was introduced, it is my opinion that this list is getting flooded with newbie questions. Check the "I just installed Ubuntu" thread for a typical example. I wish to silently remove all wine-forum posts and their replies from my inbox. I plan to filter based on From:

Log file of building vignette in RCMD check
Hello, I am trying to run "RCMD check" on a package. It performs OK, with the exception of a single warning: * checking package vignettes in 'inst/doc' ... WARNING Package vignette(s) without corresponding PDF: AnnotationFuncsUserguide.Rnw As I understand the problem, the vignette is not built. However, I have no problems in doing so manually. How do I fix this problem? I

Reading large, non-tabular files
Dear R-help, I have a very large ascii data file, of which I only want to read in selected lines (e.g. on fourth of the lines); determining which lines depends on the lines content. So far, I have found two approaches for doing this in R; 1) Read the file line by line using a repeat-loop and save the result in a temporary file or a variable, and 2) Read the entire file and filter/reshape it using

Excel 'save as HTML' problem with Samba 2.0
Hello, Eversince I upgraded Samba to 2.0 version I've gotten so many calls from the users regarding Excel 'save as HTML' problem. What seems to be happening is that the users cannot save their Excel spreadsheet as html file when they were able to with the previous Samba version we had installed (Samba 1.9.18p10). According to MS 'knowledge database', this is a known MS Excel

The second beginner question. I want to create a new dataframe, where each element of the original dataframe is translated to 1 if it was "+", to 0 if it was "-" to -1 otherwise. I could do with: Lines <- "a b c d + - + + + + + - + 1 - '+ ' - + + + + N - +" DF <-

Amount CPU's
Quick question. In my host, I've got two processors with each 6 cores and each core has two threads. I use iometer to do some testings on hard drive performance. I get the idea that using more cores give me better results in iometer. (if it will improve the speed of my guest is an other question...) For a Windows 2012 R2 server guest, can I just give the guest 24 cores? Just to make

XEN for Debian Installer development
Hi, I''m tweaking Debian Installer and I use VWware to test it. I am courius if XEN could be suitable for the testing of Debian Installer. Is there anybody who tried it? What I need is that I make an ISO image which is booted in virtual machine (DomU). The virtual machine handles an ISO image as an ordinery CD-ROM. Then I need to connect to several consoles (Like Alt+F1, Alt+F2, in

passive FTP trafic control
Hi All How to classify packets belonging to a FTP session? Port 21 session is easy. but what about data transfers? Their port numbers (both) are above 1024. I was thinking about ip_conntrack_ftp. Something like: iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp --sport 1024: --dport 1024: \ -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j CLASSIFY --set-class X:Y But what if I also have ip_conntrack_irc, for instance.

AD DC as KVM guest on file server host?
The most dramatic disadventage of kvm guest is block device I/O, so I wouldn't recommend to virtualize file server if it is not necessary. In my case on host ntpd configured as source for virtual dc, and bind9 configured as type=slave for zones hosted on dc, (make shure that srv records in _msdcs.mysambadomain.local are resolving when virtual dc is down) and smbd fileserver with

Share shows up but is not accessible.
In Windows explorer the computer (Penguin) and share (Ring) show up, but when I try to access the share, I get the following message: \\Penguin\Ring is not accessible The share name was not found. Be shure you typed it correctly. I have Samba set up on another Linux machine (OldPenguin) in the same network, and it works fine. Both computers run Red Hat 7.1 and Samba 2.0.7 (which came

grid - deleting and erasing grobs?
Hello! Don't quite understand how can I delete grobs and simultaneously erase graphic output they produce. I first change grob's "vp" field to null (grid.edit(gr,vp=NULL)) to erase it and then call rm(gr) (as grobs are external pointers I'm not shure what this method actually frees allocated memory). May be there is simpler method? Does garbage collector have any effect

my mistake compiling kernel
Dear FreeBSD! On my home machine I`ve tried to compile custom kernel for 5_0 release. In a script commented out all scsi, raid, ethernet, nfs options, I had not. So I`ve included atapicam options and "device pcm" for AC97 sound chip. After all, result was an error: linking kernel if.o: In function 'if_setlladdr': if.o(.text+0x2725): undefined reference to 'arp_ifinit'
