Vorbis streams on Windows Media Player
I would be in the same ballpark as you, Ross. We are looking at
icecast2/ices as a replacement for our RealAudio streams, as the
licenses we have will expire VERY soon, and we frankly don't have the
money to go dump on new ones. We're looking at serving literally
thousands of listeners, most of which have RealPlayer installed at home
or at work, but have never heard or played with WinAmp,

Tips for AAC streams and Windows Media Player?
We're on Icecast 2.4.2 and stream as MP3. ?We want to move to AAC. ?However, we can't get AAC streams to reliably work in Windows Media Player 12, which comes with Windows 7. ?Many of our listeners are on that client.
Any tips on getting this to work?
We found a stream which works. ?It's http://air.radiorecord.ru:8100/rr_aac. ?Most streams fail though, for example:

IceCast 2.2 MP3 stream and Real Player noise
Two other players that I am aware of that have Icecast2 issues have been
VLC and CoreCodec BetaPlayer. I have been in contact with both developer
paths and set up test streams for them in an attempt to get this fixed.
CoreCodec is in the process of making the necessary changes. I do not know
about VLC. I was never able to get confirmation.

hi leo,
thanks for the link, it's definitely useful.
meanwhile i doubt that it's a mime-type problem.
i've made some php-scripts with different header and
mime-type output, makes no difference. wmp buffers until
the doctor comes... xmms plays obviously anything...

Ogg support in Windows Media Player 9 and WMP Media Library
Greetings all,
I've got some questions and news (I think) regarding the Ogg
DirectShow filter, and Ogg support in Windows Media Player
and the WMP Media Library.
The OggDS that's in CVS -- is there any reason it's only
at the 0.9.9.3 level and not the 0.9.9.5 level that's on
Tobias's webpage?

Vorbis in Windows Media Player 9, (partial) success
As I said on http://wiki.xiph.org/ClientSupport
I managed to get WMP9 under Windows 2003 to work with OGG vorbis files.
Requisite : OggDS 0.9.9.5
- they can be opened with the Open... dialog and WMP does not complain any
more that it is an unsupported file format
- they can be dragged from explorer into WMP and WMP will play them without
any complaint
- they can be added to the media library.

IceCast 2.2 MP3 stream and Real Player noise
Sure:
Make a pls file with this in it:
[playlist]
File1=http://mp31.batanga.com:8000/live
Title1=Test
Length1=-1
NumberOfEntries=1
Version=2
The version of Real Player: 10.5.
I don't hear the problem when listening with itunes or WMP.

Windows Media Player
i had a similar problem few weeks ago.
ices 0.4, icecast 2.2
wmp buffered endless. other players had no problem.
solution for me was to explicitly set the type of
stream in ices, e.g. "-t http" on the command line or
in the config file.

hm. works fine...

the prob occurs on a wmp v.10
seems to me, if there's no problem with the stream itself (xmms plays it
pretty well) that it has to do with mime-types interpretation.

FLAC Plug-in for Windows Media Player?
I was wondering if there is a FLAC plugin for Windows Media Player? Just
from doing web-searches, it doesn't look like there is, at least as far as I
can tell. So, if there isn't a plug-in for WMP, well, why isn't there? And
is there anyone working on one?
I'm a programmer, though I've never done any WMP programming. But, I would
think it wouldn't be too hard to do a

Vorbis streams on Windows Media Player
I was under the impression that Tobias's Direct Show filters would allow
Windows Media player to play Ogg Vorbis streams, but after testing it
here, apparently it doesn't. Does anyone know if there is anyway of
making WMP play vorbis streams?
The company I'm involved with who will be creating thousands of internet
stations will most likely need WMP to play the streams, since it is

IceCast 2.2 MP3 stream and Real Player noise
I tested it this morning and here are my findings:
1) The Intro tag causes Real Player to give an error that the stream
"contains unexpected data and may be corrupt". It does not play with the
Intro tag in the mount point. If I remove the Intro tag the stream plays,
and, the Real Player noise caused by meta-data is gone and the meta-data
updates work.
2) The Intro plays in iTunes and

I'm having a problem with WMP and icecast 2.2.0. When people try to connect it buffers the feed really slow and people never go get audio.
I've tried connecting over the LAN and it does the same thing.
Open http:/scanner.weatherserver.net/live in media player and you will see what I am talking about.

Windows Media Player 11
Hello,
I am trying to run Windows Media Player 11 on WINE and I cant. This is the only software that I need to be windows free since my university posts the lecture videos in WMP 11 DRM format and I cant view them if I dont have WMP11 installed.
It asks for windows genuine verification. Anybody can help? I have wine 1.1.12.
Thanks in advance.

Alternative to windows media player?
Hi,
I'm installing Wine for the first time on my Mac through MacPorts.
I've been reasonably successful and the application that I wanted to use, a training program, runs almost flawlessly :-)
It does ask to use Windows Media Player and I did install WMP9 and this installed fine and the application does play the videos. However, these are thumbnail sized. While this isn't a big deal,
