Where would you find out who's in charge of this in the country you're in (other than just doing it and waiting for letters from lawyers ;) ). Thanks Hans Remco B. Basically, to legally broadcast music you must: A) Obtain permissions from the copyright holder (usually the publisher, record label) of the *composition*. ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC offer compulsory licenses for all of the artists they represent, fees based upon roughly how many listeners your station has & how many songs in your broadcast are by artists/composers they represent. B) Obtain

m3u - file definition
Hello is there any documentation on the .m3u file definition ? I want to define a .m3u playlist where I have to define the start and end point of the single mp3 file. The .m3u files is supposed to handle multiple tracks from one file. Just with put a tab, start time (seconds), tab, end time (seconds) after the path to mark where it starts and ends in the file. #First Track

Hmmm, so in summary, anyone wanting to put together a station for a couple of hundred listeners with out a massive bank account, it can not be done legally. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris G (Moguta)" <chrisg1@umbc.edu> To: "icecast" <icecast@xiph.org> Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2003 11:33 AM Subject: RE: [icecast] legalities of streaming <p>>

Re-2: streaming MP3s?
I'm using icecast-2.0-alpha-2 and ices-2.0-Beta2. When I put the .mp3 file in my webroot and start laying it via winamp/location/<filename>.mp3 it works fine, just when I try using the playlist via ices I get a 404. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [icecast] streaming MP3s? I did make sure that iptables has port 8000 open for tcp. Any suggestions for troubleshooting? Thanks. jg __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Windows client
Correct me if I'm wrong, but one thing still lacking in the Windows environment is software which can feed ogg files directly to IceCast2 without encoding. This would be very handy for me right now. Anyone working on anything? An Ices2 for Windows would be ideal. Regards, Ross Levis ==================================== StationPlaylist.com http://www.stationplaylist.com Low-cost music

Oh, I almost forgot... If you're going under compulsory licensing: 1) Listener requests cannot be honored, otherwise you will end up labeled an "interactive service" along with Audiogalaxy Rhapsody & the like. Which means more & more expensive royalties. 2) You cannot play more than 3 songs of the same album in any 3 hour period (no more than 2 in a row). Nor can you

.conf for 2nd streem
I'm pretty sure it was in the default ices.conf, but I guess I deleted it. How do I setup a 2nd stream? The first plays at 24k, I want same audio for a box on the local lan, so bandwidth is not an issue; so either don't decode/reencode or re-encode at 300+K, or whatever the highest is. slow buffering?
Hi, I am running the latest CVS version of Icecast2, updated as of this moment. One thing I've noticed since I've started using Icecast2, is that Icecast2 is quite slow with its pre-buffering - even with only 1 or 2 users connected to a 24Kbps relayed MP3 stream. The load on the p2-233 server (128mb RAM) is minimal, it usually stays below 0.08. I first thought this was related to my

streaming MP3s?
Ok, icecast is up and running, but only ogg-files. Any way to stream MP3s? I got my whole CD-Collection as MP3s and am just to lazy to convert the whole stuff. <p>--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'icecast-request@xiph.org' containing only the word
