Ditto Scott - you nailed it !! But the DMCA actually sets rules on requests and processing them without being considered "interactive" - for instance the time frame allowed from when requests are made and then processed and actually air (minimum 60 minutes), to displaying your playlist - (can not be displayed public in the order of actual performance) basically as long as you never

legalities of streaming
Basically, to legally broadcast music you must: A) Obtain permissions from the copyright holder (usually the publisher, record label) of the *composition*. ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC offer compulsory licenses for all of the artists they represent, fees based upon roughly how many listeners your station has & how many songs in your broadcast are by artists/composers they represent. B) Obtain

Hmmm, so in summary, anyone wanting to put together a station for a couple of hundred listeners with out a massive bank account, it can not be done legally. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris G (Moguta)" <chrisg1@umbc.edu> To: "icecast" <icecast@xiph.org> Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2003 11:33 AM Subject: RE: [icecast] legalities of streaming <p>>

The rates are in arbitration, and I doubt they will come out anywhere near that amount. It just isn't feasible, even for large companies. Reember, tradidional

Scaffolding working...kinda
Hello all. I''ve been working through some online tutorials, learning ROR and have a question on scaffolding. Through the command promt i''ve ran the command: $ script/generate scaffold Albums This created the controllers, helpers, models, and views. I have a database table titled "albums" and have two records saved within The problem is that the scaffold command did

ActiveRecord find
Suppose I have three tables - authors, posts and topics. Every post have a topic and every topic has an author, so I have posts.topic_id and topic.author_id. When the author is guest (not registered), author_id is nil. I need to find all the posts (in one query) where every post have all the information of the topic and the auther, so if p is one of those posts I could get the name of the

Adviced way of tagging music
I change a lot of my CD to Ogg to be able to listen them easily from my computer (I use foobar, I was used to WMP but it does not support library for Ogg files and plug-ins I found for this where poor) without the need for frequent CD changing. I like my music to be richly tagged. But with classical music CD it is a real pain to tag those files. Typical problems involve: - single CD

Title formatting for players/plugins
Hi, Peter Pawlowski's new (1.15beta) winamp decoder plugin seems quite nice, in my opinion.. The "title formatting logic" is what I've been dreaming of for ages.. Right now I've chosen "%artist / [[%[abbr20]album][-%[num2]tracknumber] / ]%title[ - %version]" I get titles such as "Artist / Title"or "Artist / Album / Title" or "Artist /

Buying Vorbis Music
('binary' encoding is not supported, stored as-is) Hello, I don't know if you knew that there's a russian site where you can buy your music in Ogg Vorbis. There are many albums where you can decide what Codec (MP3, AAC, WMA, Vorbis, MP+) and Bitrate (or quality for Ogg) should be used to encode and download the files encoded specifically for you. The prices are somewhat low.

mp3pro and the mp3 streaming license
Fraunhofer and Thomson Multimedia release their new mp3pro codec and new licenseconditions for streaming mp3 : http://www.techreview.com/web/kiang/kiang060701.asp My comment is that the licensecharge isnt frighting compared to what we broadcaster pays in musicroyalties allready. Is this what you feared jack? :) -- Venlig hilsen/Kind regards Thomas Kirk ARKENA thomas@arkena.com

album portion of the tags request
I wanted to post publicly my problem with Jonathan's proposed album requirements. Although I do apologize, since this thread is too big already. The idea that as a requirement one should be able to identify the exact CD a track was ripped from is not a valid requirement in my book (not for the tags at least), and I hope I can explain why. Without knowing the exact way Jonathan wishes to

Adding more to stats.xml WAS:Source XML for status.xsl
/me grumbles about upcoming finals: I note that the mountpoint entry displays the current songs title and artist, but not the album. In the particular case of my station, album is often more important (recognizable) as there are a variety of pop/classical artists who do music for anime. So I'd like to add an album nature but am going to need a quick overview on how stats.xml is generated.

Icecast source client with web request/voting for next to play function
Hi all! Thank you for having me. I'm a person who encourage a small local community for musical involvement. It already kinda worked, we are doing plenty of fantastic things together. What I am now thinking of is 24/7 Internet radio based on Icecast that will air all of their non-professional music I gathered. Functions I'm looking for: - frequent scanning of music directory to update

(Classical) Request for Standardization of expanded TAGS
A month or two ago I sent an email to this list proposing to expand the list of "standard" tags for Ogg Vorbis. No tag would be required, but if you wanted to encode certain types of information about a file, you could use a standard tag. I went through the whole discussion, and revised my proposal in light of all the comments from everyone. Here is the updated proposal. This

Searching over multiple MySQL tables
I am racking my brain over this, probably because I only know very simple mysql functions. Basically I''ve got a few tables, ex: Albums (id,name,band_id); Bands (id,name,label_id), and Label (id,name) I want to search through both album.name, band.name, and label.name throwing all results into a variable, with no redundant info. I think what I need to be doing is setting up some
