Rearranging the furniture....
Hi Tom and All, I have been quietly watching the list for the last year (no new issues for me that weren''t covered in the docs or promptly "bug-fixed" by Tom. Boy, has this grown exponentially! Anyway, back to the point (the proverbial rearranging the furniture)... I have been evaluating Mandrake''s MNF as an upgrade for my Firewall box. If I do this( and even if I

Setting up new firewall
Using Mandrake MNF which uses shorewall as it''s firewall. My firewall is simple with just two interfaces. One on the internet one on the local network. I can''t browse out to the internet with a browser. Or connect to my external mail server. If I set up the proxy server and set my browser to connect via the proxy I can browse the internet. But still can''t get mail to

Usersets
Is anyone using user sets? I''m considering dropping support for them in 2.0 in favor of just listing individual user/groups in the rules file. Thanks, -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool Shoreline, \ http://shorewall.net Washington USA \ teastep@shorewall.net

IPSec pass through
I''m getting insane here. I''m running shorewall 1.3.11 with iptables 1.2.5 and freeswan 1.97 on a 2.4.18-8 kernel aka MNF. The setup is a followed: Lan (192.168.1.x) - FW (eth1 192.168.1.254 - eth0 64.x.y.71) - router 64.x.y.65 (which is default GW on eth0) -internet - 161.a.b.c (FW-1) So a windows client with checkpoint tries to connect to a vpn-1 server on the internet. Shorewall rpm failed dependency: iproute (ip is working)
Hello Shorewall gurus, as outlined on the shorewall site I have done the following after failure to install shorewall via the rpm: I have read all of the FAQ. I have read the quickstart guide with particular attention directed at the Mandrake solution. I have searched the mailing list archives (all old replies). I have studied the documentation index. I have previous experience using shorewall

Shorewall GUI Interface - Redux
My company has, very generously, donated a space on their rack and a server for me to use for development of a more up to date Shorewall webmin interface. Based on the advice here, I''ve also signed up for a sourceforge account, and will register the project later today. I would like to solicit the help of a few people on here who are willing to help move this project along. There were

FBSD All-in-one security box?
Hey *, as I sweat through another day of crap dealing with an all-in-one box (firewall, IDS, AVS, report generating, soon to be a VPN server) I'm wondering if someone has started a project to put some freeware together in some semblance of sanity on a FBSD box. There's basically nothing that this box does that a combo of IPFW (or another bsd filter), snort, ntop, and some other freeware

Sigh....ok once more with feeling
The firewall didnt help matters. I think its FUBAR and I need to reformat anyways, so ill reformat and reinstall and put fresh SAMBA up, on Mandrake 9.0. The system has 2 NICs and NET_MASQ shares internet to the XP machine. Therein it acts as a DHCP server and has a firewall. I will open 139 from the start next time.

Musical OCR - MSGBOX_OnInit task modal msgbox !...
Hi, I'm trying to use SharpEye2 under Wine: that is a Musical Optical Recognition (musical OCR) program, getting a scanned image and outputting a digital score - look at http://www.visiv.co.uk. It is probably the best such program among the few existing ones and the only thing I miss from Windows. Anyway, the installation goes perfectly, but when I try to run it, a window appears saying

Count data in random Forest
Hello R-user! I am running R 2.7.0 on a Power Book (Tiger). (I am still R and statistics beginner) I try to find the most important variables to divide my dataset as given in a categorical variable using randomForest. Is randomForest() able to deal with count data? Or is there no difference because only the ranks are used in the trees? Thanks in advance Birgit Birgit Lemcke Institut f?r

SLES kernel update
Hello CFS, I was wondering if the new SLES10 kernel will be part of the 1.6.4 release. It appears to be tracked by: https://bugzilla.lustre.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13874 As this contains a major security fix (privilege escalation), it is a mandatory upgrade in many places and it would be nice to not have to roll our own kernel. Thanks, Kit

Wine and Skype
I am currently running Skype version 1.3 on a Linux Mandriva 2006 system. It works well, but the Windows version is really superior, supporting several interesting features missing from the Linux version. So I tried to use wine for that. I am not familiar with wine (never need Windows programs, really) and I tried to use what had been installed by Mandriva. Testing wine, it's all right with

Problems using rfImpute
Hello R-user! I am running R 2.7.0 on a Power Book (Tiger). (I am still R and statistics beginner) I tried rfImpute (randomForest) and as far as I understood should it replace NA`s using a proximity matrix: > set.seed(100000) > Subset5Imputed<-rfImpute(Sex~., data=Subset5) ntree OOB 1 2 300: 11.78% 12.36% 11.21% ntree OOB 1 2 300: 12.07% 12.64%
