soundblaster live noise
I had a similar problem... I updated our radio server to a new box and a SB Live and ran into all sorts of audio problems. I took the sound card (es1371) from the old box and swapped out the SB Live and the problems went away. I think the problem is with fbsd's sb live driver. <p>> -----Original Message----- > From: jim [mailto:bikepunx@impop.bellatlantic.net] > Sent: Thursday,

SoundBlaster Live
Folks, I last saw this problem in a thread in this newsgroup a couple of years ago, but there was no solution then. It was then stated that you couldn't get a SoundBlaster Live sound card to work under Wine because Windows 'ran' everything through the emu10k1.vxd file and Wine did not support vxd files. Is this still the case? Has anyone found a workaround yet? Pete

Soundblaster
Hi, I have the VIA chipset, and I'm trying to disable the sound and enable a soundblaster compatible card. Can you tell me what you did in /etc/modules.conf to enable your soundblaster card? Thanks, Mike

getting a Creative Soundblaster card to work
I just got a Creative Soundblaster X-fi Xtreme Audio card for my notebook. The card is recognized automatically in Ubuntu, and in Preferences/Sound I set the default to ALC861VD Analog, which is the mixer. But the option doesn't come up under winecfg. And my application (Dragon NaturallySpeaking) doesn't see it. Any suggestions?

stream sounds like poo for no apparent reason
This does sound like a grounding problem. My (limited) understanding is that when you have 2 audio components plugged in to different outlets, there can be a voltage differential between the ground on the 2 devices, which will create an electrical flow between the 2 components, which is the source of the hum. I have had this problem before and solved with a ground loop isolator, (from Radio Shack)

Integrating speex with VideoNet application: Constantbackground noise
The absolute values may be different for a variety of reasons; you can hardwire them all to 0 to see if your noise goes away. Make sure the values on the decompressed (PCM) side are little-endian (low byte first in memory), assuming you're working in Windows on x86. -- john RAD Game Tools -----Original Message----- From: Carine Liang [mailto:carineliang@yahoo.com.sg] Sent: Sunday,

Integrating speex with VideoNet application: Constantbackground noise
Hi, I've changed the m_waveFormatEx.wBitsPerSample for both record buffer and playSound buffer, changed my array from char to short and I'm still getting the same constant background noise. I notice that when I talk into the mike, I will get a slightly louder noise, can't hear any clear speech... Any idea what's wrong? Regards, Carine ----- Original Message ---- From: John Miles

Integrating speex with VideoNet application: Constantbackground noise
Hi John, I noticed the values after decode is very much different from the values of the original PCM samples. For cases when the PCM sample values are constant (because no one is speaking), the decoded values fluctuate too. These fluatuations are causing the background noise. Is my observation expected? Integrating speex with VideoNet application: Constantbackground noise
Hi, I'm still unable to get rid of the background noise though I've changed the PCM samples to 16 bit. I'm began to wonder if I can just take the PCM samples and encode them. What my application tries to do is to record the voice from a microphone, encode it, send it via the socket to a peer, decode at the peer's side and play the voice. My application works fine without the

SoundBlaster 16 removal impending
(Reply directly, as I''m not subscribed here.) As you may have seen, ARC recently approved my case to remove the ancient sbpro driver Solaris. I''m intent on doing that, because it really helps with our OSS integration effort, which I''m now leading. The problem is, will this impact qemu? I''m not sure of the answer. I *think* qemu emulates an older ESS1370

par("uin") ?
I inherited a function written either for an older version of R or SPlus to draw a brace, "{", in a graph. It uses par("uin") to determine the scaling of the quarter circles that make up segments of the brace, but that setting doesn't exist in current R. I'm guessing that, in the function below, ux, uy can be defined from par("usr") and

Integrating speex with VideoNet application: Constantbackground noise
Hi John, Thanks for your reply. Yes, my output device is in 8-bit mode, same as my input mode. I'm actually working in char (8 bit) arrays. Is it necessary to work in signed short integers only? I changed all the short arrays in the example to char. Carine ----- Original Message ---- From: John Miles <jmiles@pop.net> To: carineliang@yahoo.com.sg; speex-dev@xiph.org Sent: Thursday,
