the ACG function that the compressor provides is limited at best. its
adjustment is way too audible to make full use of it in balancing levels.
yes, it is last in the chain. i'm just wondering if there's anything out
there in the way of software. if a minidisc recorder can do it, why can't a
$1000 pc?

Using Icecast relay function with dynamic IP at remote source end
Hi David, I don't think we will necessarily be on wifi, I'm sorry if I
implied that. There are a couple of events each year when we have to use
wifi, but for those I have a dedicated access point running at close to
1 watt connected directly to our ISP's network.
Okay, I was told over on the Darkice listserv that using Darkice > WAN >

Using Icecast relay function with dynamic IP at remote source end
ok let see if I can translate it to broadcaster terms for ya :)
A icecast server can be set up to accept direct source connection. ie dark
ice( which i do agree runs better on the machine where icecast server is.
) I do use it to trans-code the mount to different encoding.
THe icecast server can also set up as a relay, where it pulls in from the
another server. Primary used to pull the stream

Using Icecast relay function with dynamic IP at remote source end
It does not matter what IP BUTT has, it sends to the fixed IP at the
studio on port [ 8000 ] with a mount like /liveBroadcast.mp3

>Fromwhat you describe, your comp/limiter can't possibly be working
correctly. It should be the last unit in line before the sound card, and
needs to be adjusted properly. You also need to balance the levels on your
mixing board (so that the correc t level comes at predictable place on the
slider). It might be worthwhile to find someone with some sound-mixing or
radio engineering experience

Using Icecast relay function with dynamic IP at remote source end
Hey,
Yes, we been just using a simple source client connecting directly to our
icecast server for years. These being a simple free solution. Also works
with other free and paid for products too. Your milage will varry with
each program, and what features it will offers.
For dynamic IPs you can use a service like noip.com. There are a few of
them to choose from. IT allow you to give your

Run the signal through a Compressor/Limiter before sending it to your
soundcard. I use Behringer Ultra-Dyne Pro DSP9024. Very nice. If you
want to buy it look here:

Sounds like you need to fix the problem at the source first: balancing the
levels going *into* your mixing board so that they're not all over the place
coming out. You'll never fix that with any hardware or software device.
I use a program called ecasound to do software dynamics processing, but
you'd have to hack liveice pretty extensively to use it in that situation.
Software

we're actually using a furman c/l already, but the levels coming into the
mixer are still all over the place. one mp3 might be much louder than
another, the phone interface is way too loud, the dj mic is too quiet, etc.
usually one of the planners ends up sitting by and adjusting the igain in
aumix. is there any software-based solution? it seems like it wouldn't be

Problem Two: Icecast Won't Relay...
As a follow-up to this thread:

... I am still attempting to relay effectively from two separate
Audioactive encoders via an icecast server. Since we last discussed
this Audioactive have updated their firmware to comply to the standards
for MP3 streaming more explicitly. And according to Michael Icecast

Using Icecast relay function with dynamic IP at remote source end
Right, BUTT can be set to push to studio, and studio's IP is fixed.
It doesn't appear that Icecast Master can push to a Slave at studio,
Slave at studio has to pull from Master, and Master's IP address is not
fixed. So for our remotes, BUTT is the better choice for that, and all
the other reasons you mention.
Plus, when you are recording eight bands in a 12-hour broadcast day,

Hey,
The relay easiest to configured in a pull configuration. Where the
setting are setup on the remote server.
Since the client is on WiFi, you will have lots of issues streaming due
to the ever changing wifi environment. My suggestion is source the stream
at the lowest settings for encoding you can live with, This will keep the
bandwidth down and less likely burp on you.
We do have

Icecast relay as a source to another icecast?
I have a situation where I'd like to be able to have icecast reach out to
another icecast server as a client. Is this possible with relaying? From
what I read relaying and master relaying both have the server reach out to
another server.
The reason is this.
I have a hardware encoder (Telos audioactive) sitting on a cablemodem.
I have a remote provider (streamcheap or something) set to

Hi Zahar, what value has into

This value is recommended to set at 1 by virtual core.
I 'm using for some years, KH branch with 35 concurrent listeners into 8
core vm.

Icecast relay/fallback problem
Hi list,
I'm having some problems with my new Icecast setup and I was hoping you can
help me with it. My Icecast setup looks like this:

I have two active encoders, one is encoding to the active mount and one is
encoding to the fallback mount on the back-end node. Configuration of the

Here's how I've been doing it:

I thought I might try this instead:

Zahar, how are you testing? with some CURL stress test? BTW, IPTABLES is
enabled?
I was running most time in VMWARE, but i run 10k users in medium size box
in AWS, just move out for the high transfer cost.

Icecast relay with backup - loops backup for too long
My listeners connect to a publicly accessible Icecast server with the
config below. Between broadcasts it uses a fallback mp3, which loops.
During broadcasts it relays from a local Icecast server that I broadcast to
(config also below). I am aiming for approx 30-45 seconds buffering, as the
connection from public to local icecast server is 'less than ideal'.
The set up is working fine

[Newbie Q] Relay to an Icecast server apparently not relaying?
The main stream is going to a Shoutcast server via Winamp. Works fine. A
Relay stream goes to Live365. Works fine.
I set up a Relay under SAM to point to the Icecast server running on another
box on the network. In SAMs Realy section it tells me that it's connected -
and Icecast seems to be telling me the same thing. Obviously I'm missing
something in the setup of IceCast - I think?
