Hi Gregory, GM> Flac decode is VERY fast: GM> http://web.inter.nl.net/users/hvdh/lossless/lossless.htm Thank you for the link. Although I switched to flac for other reasons, these data appear to support my switch, given the hardware limitations I have. As I mentioned, I use a 400 mhz laptop in my office, and at home a qnap ts-101 running slimserver software. While quite usable, neither

Query on image link file mode?
Hiya, will it be possible to add single song playback support like Monkey's Audio Image Link File to FLAC+CUE? This will allow the playing of single songs from 1 large FLAC file. Since FLAC can already embed the cuesheet inside the FLAC itself, the next step will be to allow the playback of the songs individually, allowing them to be added to playlists when playing singles. Please make

Wine: Configuration, Downloading, and Installing for absolute beginners? Help, anyone?
Okay, I know absolutely jack about jack, and it will probably show when I ask my first questions. I have managed to download and install Wine, as well as run winecfg. However, I'm not sure just *how much* configuration needs to be done. The User's Manual made it seem as though a lot of it was optional, though I'm not at all sure, and some of it is quite daunting to somone who just

Ogg compared to MPC and AAC
In researching Ogg Vorbis, I have started to become aware of many other audio formats I never knew about, such as FLAK. Well, today I have become aware of two other formats I hadn't heard of before: MPC and AAC. Can anyone tell me what they think of these formats in comparison to Ogg Vorbis? If anyone considers this Off-Topic, please feel free to email me personally. I'm not trying to

Asus L1N64 - a good candidate for a ZFS based home server?
This Asus board looks promising, assuming the parts (nForce 680a chipset) are Solaris friendly: http://www.asus.com.tw/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=136&l3=486&model=1530&modelmenu=2 The board boasts 12 (!) SATA2 ports. The FX-7x series CPUs appear to be a very cost effective ($799) 4 core solution. Ian

Question about multiple ldap backend (as failover/load balance)
Hello OK, in my case, there is only one samba server acting as PDC. On the PDC, it has a openldap server as backend. I have configured another server as the slave ldap server. slave ldap server will pool data by syncrepl. There are some spaces in samba/smbldap-tool that we can configure multiple ldap servers (or load balance by use of DNS) What happen if the PDC write data to the slave ldap

Questions about bitrates
If I understand correctly, Ogg Vorbis is a lossless format. But then why does it support bitrates? Ogg Vorbis does not delete any information. When I encode a 128 kbit MP3 file to 32 kbit OggVorbis, the resulting file has a bitrate of about 110 kbit. And when I encode it to 320 kbit, the file will be bigger, but the quality won't improve because of the quality of the original. So what purpose

Batch Process for wav->flac?
I have a hard disk full of live shows. Each show is in an individual folder (titled by name and date of show), and contains the individual wav files of the show, labeled "disc1track1, disc1track2, etc." It's the same naming scheme in each of the 200 or so folders for each show. I want to convert each audio file to flac - is there a way to do this all at once? I can't just

peering inside functions in a package?
Let's say I would like to look inside the function corBrownian in library (ape). When I type in the function name I get the following, which is not nearly the detail that goes into this function. I am wondering how to begin cracking this function open (and others) so I can learn more about it and perhaps code my own corClass one day. Thanks. > corBrownian function (value = 1, phy, form

conflicting imports despite using importFrom in NAMESPACE
Dear all, It is my understanding that using 'importFrom' in the NAMESPACE of a package allows to avoid conflicts between different packages defining objects with identical names. However, I can still see conflicts while loading the package using 'library'. Here is a toy example, with a package 'foo' importing 'as.igraph' from the igraph package, and 'nj'
