switch to member-only posting
Since Sourceforge's spam filter seems to suck I've switched
all the mailing lists to member-only posting. Would have
done it sooner but I overlooked the option. Hopefully this
will cut down on the spam.

Altivec, automake
good news, I finally got the asm compilation working with both
autotools and project builder. it's all checked in. Brady, can
you try it out too? autogen.sh may need a little tweaking
depending on your environment. here's what mine looks like (I
have some of the required libs in local places in the user acct
that I build flac in, and the rest I get from Fink installed in
/sw).

dropping id3 support
after spending a lot of time integrating X-Fixer's winamp2
plugin code, I am on the verge of removing id3 v1/v2 support
from the plugins completely. it is really hard to get right
in a way that works intuitively for the user, and i18n is
also a nightmare. in id3v2 every field can have a different
encoding.
FLAC tag a.k.a. Vorbis comment support is very good now so
unless someone comes up

porting flac to uClinux ?
hi
I am trying to port the flac decoder library to
uClinux which runs on blackfin processor
I saw a directory contains ASM files inside
src/libFLAC/ia32.
I need to know, whether these files are to be
converted to corresponding blackfin ASM routines in
order for the decoder to work.

dropping id3 support
ah. I was only talking about removing support in the winamp2
and xmms plugins. the decoder libraries will still be able to
skip over/ignore id3 tags as before. I think AudioReQuest and
PhatNoise must be using their own code to read id3 tags, which
won't be affected.

libtool "missing sed" bug
I am putting the finishing touches on the next release. I got
everything mostly working with the latest autotools, but I've
noticed that the generated libtool after configure does not
have $SED defined. searching around it seems to be a common problem.
I thought as a simple workaround that I would just distribute a
libtool script that sets $SED to 'sed' (expecting it to be in the

Speex for Samsung ARM processor
Dear Speex Developers,
I'm trying to use Speex on a development board that has the Samsung 2140 ARM Processor (model
S3C2410X01, ARM 920T Core). I enabled the arm assembly, i.e. build the speex library using the
following configure command:
./configure --enable-fixed-point --enable-arm-asm --enable-fixed-point-debug --host=arm-linux
After linking the library with my application, I ran

not sure about the mad_fixed_t format, but probably. all samples
coming out of the FLAC decoder are linear PCM 32-bit signed ints.

Quicktime + FLAC?
If i could find some good documentation on quicktime, i'd probably give it a
shot... since i already have most of the infrastructure already for
directshow.
I had a look a few times for detailed info on quicktime, and it all looked
pretty painful.
Not to mention all the base media handler code provided for the sdk, says
not suitable for bitrates greater than like 32kpbs which is useless

[Bridge] Bridging between user processes
Hi,
What is the easiest way to bridge between two
user-space processes that talk directly to Ethernet
interfaces?
I have two applications that write/read Ethernet
frames to/from Linux Ethernet ports (e.g. eth0). The
applications can successfully talk to each other when
they run on two machines connected over Ethernet. I
would like to be able to test them on a single machine
without employing

res_config_odbc not working
Hi,
Can somebody tell me what I've been doing wrong for the res_config_odbc not to work properly. I
already looked on the mailing list for some answer but I can't find one. The closes subject I
found is "res_odbc not working". Btw, I already followed BKW reply on that subject. I guessed the
log below can tell us res_odbc.so is succefully loaded, so it easy to presumed it

liboggflac bug (flac.exe) : wrong header field
Just playing around with my new flac code, and did some tests with stuff
from the reference tools, and i noticed that one of the fields in the first
header is wrong. (The number of headers field is 1 less than it should be)
The spec doc says...
" A two-byte, big-endian binary number signifying the number of header
(non-audio) packets, including this one. "
Here's a partial dump
