FLAC as part of the Ogg project?
I agree, but the idea behind the OGG formats is to build patent free codecs. Is FLAC really patent-free ? And does the OGG team agree to include FLAC in their specs ? smoerk wrote: > I agree. Formats other than Vorbis in Ogg
I have a question about Ogg. (which, ironically, means i'm posting to the wrong list. I don't know of an Ogg list though, and if i'm posting to the wrong list, please inform and forgive me) A while back I read how some of the developers had added MIDI support to the Ogg stream format. While just in early stages, this reminded me of a thought that had been passing through my

adding song metadata
What is the best way to add song metadata (artist, album, title, etc.) to flac files? I want to be able to define an arbitrary number of FIELD=value pairs. Earlier I heard someone mention using id3 tags. I tried this with the command-line "id3v2", and while it seemed to work I noticed that the resulting file no longer began with "fLaC", which violates the format

stream_encoder metadata callback
Thanks for the quick response on the C++ thing. It would also be nice if the host program could correctly write the STREAMINFO block in the stream encoder metadata callback without having to know the specifics of the header format (or worry about endianness). How exactly to achieve this might take some thought, but what about this idea: 1. The correct way to respond to the metadata callback:

make headers C++ compatible?
Hello FLACers, I'm working on implementing FLAC support for Audacity, a cross-platform audio editor (audacity.sourceforge.net). We're experimenting with using FLAC as the internal data representation. Unfortunately, the FLAC headers cannot be used in C++ programs because of the use of 'private' and 'protected' as variable names in stream_decoder.h, stream_encoder.h, and

FLAC support in Phatbox car audio system
For the interested, the Phatbox (a car audio system) now has firmware to support FLAC files. I have a news bullet on the FLAC site: http://flac.sourceforge.net/news.html#20020213 This is the first hardware support for FLAC (more is coming) and I think the first support of any non-proprietary lossless audio format for any hardware. Kudos to Phatnoise for taking the lead. Josh

file magic for Ogg, Vorbis?
I am trying to figure out file(1) magic(1) for Ogg and Vorbis. (I am using file from NetBSD 1.5.1.) Currently I have: 0 string OggS Ogg data >29 string vorbis \b, Vorbis audio Some results: $ file ~/audio/kaas.* /home/reed/audio/kaas.mp3: MP3, 128 kBits, 44.1 kHz, Stereo /home/reed/audio/kaas.ogg: Ogg data, Vorbis audio /home/reed/audio/kaas.wav: RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio,

Pre-echo like noises on Beta4
Hi, there. Although I'm not a hacker at all, I noticed an audible noise on Beta 4 encoded files. So, I'd like to report it here. I ripped and encoded 'A Day Without Rain' on the album with the same name By Enya into Vorbis using Oggenc and Oggdrop Beta 4 from the Vorbis site. (You know, she is quite an encoder-killer.) At all the bitrates, files encoded by Oggdrop had audible

flac in the filesystem?
I am looking to losslessly archive a lot of music and share it over a network. The following stipulations lead me to an interesting conclusion: 1. Almost no programs can read or write flac files directly. 2. Almost all programs can read and write wav files directly. 3. The cost of encoding flac files is fairly low 4. The cost of decoding them is even lower 5. These files would be read much more

[LLVMdev] stack switching?
Are there any plans to add stack switching to LLVM? I've seen a few proposals for it floating around (some even implemented): http://ulir.ul.ie/handle/10344/2927 (implemented in: https://github.com/stedolan/llvm) https://code.google.com/p/llvm-stack-switch/ But I couldn't find any discussion of whether there was a plan to integrate one of these. Any plans to add this feature? Thanks,

ogg pic format (again).. here's why
I sent a little mail some time ago asking if there was going to be an ogg pic-format, and you replied that PNG, MNG and JNG is good enough (sorry for this late answer btw).. But, consider this: The ogg video-format (tarkin ? where do you get these names from anyway ? :) ) needs a way to compress its frames. Are you going to use MNG for that ? :) .. If you had an ogg pic format, that format could

[LLVMdev] rwx pages dangerous?
I'm not sure about the legacy JIT interface, but I don't think this can be done cleanly with the current MCJIT interface. I mentioned a while ago that this is one of the improvements we'd like to make to MCJIT. I can definitely see Josh's point about performance, and so we won't want permissions to always be set, but I do think it's worth revising the interface between
