High CPU usage
Hi Jozsef,
this approach sounds interesting.
Do have you have some source code available ?
Thanks
Mark

jspeex question
The link is http://www.adobe.com/devnet/rtmp/. TC Message stands for TinCan message. It is 11 bytes long, first byte is message type, three bytes of payload length four bytes of timestamp and three bytes of stream ID.
The first byte of the payload for audio message is the format byte and the rest of the byte is the payload.

High CPU usage
Hi Mark,
the documentation (section 3.2.1) states:
"The single that will affect the CPU usage of Speex the most is whether it is compiled for floating point or fixed-point. [...] On the x86 architecture, floating-point is generally faster, but not always. "
And:
"Until the VBR feature is ported to fixed-point, you will also need to configure with ?disable-vbr or define

jspeex question
FLV contains TC messages? TC message payload contains a format byte and speex frames (up to eight). In the format byte 0xb0 indicates speex. Speex is always 16 kHz, 16 bit, mono.

Speex in flash player: how to work with?
Nicer way:
void* speexState = speex_encoder_init(&speex_wb_mode);
int speexFrameSize, speexRate;
speex_encoder_ctl(speexState, SPEEX_GET_FRAME_SIZE, &speexFrameSize);
speex_encoder_ctl(speexState, SPEEX_GET_SAMPLING_RATE, &speexRate);
SpeexPreprocessState* speexPreprocessState = speex_preprocess_state_init(speexFrameSize, speexRate);

Speex in flash player: how to work with?
First of all, Flash Player can only publish Speex at 16 kHz. 20 ms of audio (320 samples) will result in compressed payload size of 106 bytes (42.4 kbps). When Flash Player sends a TC message, there is 11 bytes TC message header and a single byte of audio message header.
For more information, please see ActionScript 3 reference http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AS3LCR/Flash_10.0/

Speex in flash player: how to work with?
What are you trying to accomplish? My code sample was about how Flash Player microphone input in speex.
If you want to do decode, please see speexdec.c

High CPU usage
Hi Mark,
Code below:
int16_t* samples;
int16_t* fbSilenceFrame;
void *fSpeexState;
float eng(0.f);
int speexFrameSize(0);
speex_encoder_ctl(speexState, SPEEX_GET_FRAME_SIZE, &speexFrameSize);
for (int i = 0; i < speexFrameSize; i++)
{
eng += samples[i] * samples[i];
}
if (eng / speexFrameSize < 3.f)
{
memcpy(samples, silenceFrame, speexFrameSize * sizeof(int16_t));

VAD CPU usage
Hi Jean-Marc
I am using speex in my voip app (wideband mode). I
have noticed that when VAD kicks in, CPU considerably
increases (bitrate decreases to 4 kbps). It takes
about 7 ms to encode one frame versus 0.5 ms (for
speech). This happens regardless preprocessor is used.
Although the issue seems to be driver dependent, it
occurs on XP, Vista and Mac OS X.
Besides complexity and quality, this

Encoding/Decoding doubts
Flash player encodes speex at 16 kHz, mono, 16 bit. Fields in the format byte should be ignored if the format is speex. You can set the quality by Microphone.encodeQuality (default 6). You can also set the number of speex frames per tc message using Microphone.framesPerPacket.
Flash player can only decode speex at 16 kHz, so make sure you have the proper sample rate.

jspeex question
Thanks for the help folks, but I got this working a couple hours ago. =)
I'm quite please after struggling with it for a few days.
I just needed to take each audio tag from the FLV file and feed the contents
of the tag (except for the first byte) to the jspeex decoder and write the
results to a file.
Jozsef - it is possible to specify 8KHz in the flash client and decode it as
such. Speex

SPEEX on iPhone ?
I can confirm that it will run in real time on iPhone if you compile
with FIXED_POINT defined; it will also run in real time if you have
FLOATING_POINT defined and disable 'Compile for Thumb' in the target's
build settings in xcode. Wideband works too.
Cheers,

Is it possible to change the quality with encoding ?
Hi All,
Actually, the question is right on the topic.
Is it possible to change the quality while encoding ?
If the answer is yes, does the jitter buffer provides info about latency, e.g. : if latency is too high, we lower down the quality, if the latency is okay, we are raising the quality until latency rise up again...
Thank you for your help.

QCONST16?
Gents,
In Version 8.1, QCONST16 is defined as follows in arch.h within the
FLOATING_POINT section:
#define QCONST16(x,bits) (x)
However, in both celt.c and quant_bands.c, QCONST16 is referenced without a
conditional FLOATING_POINT define. So when I compile as FIXED_POINT I get an
"undefined identifier" for QCONST16. Am I doing something wrong?
Thx,

visual studio 2005 - help getting speex workin'
Hey there, I'm having trouble getting speex working with a project that
uses it. For some quick background, the game Quake 3 was GPL'ed a while
ago. Some programmers decided to throw it into a public svn and improve
on it, called it ioquake3. One of the blokes integrated speex into
ioquake3 and it works, but I have troubles getting it to compile/link
properly with Visual Studio 2005. I

speex 1.2beta1 encoding/decoding clicking noise on WM2003
Would it help if I scale the input wav data before encoding to spx? One interesting thing is if I encode the same wav file to spx(or decode the same spx file to wav ) on Windows platform, then there is no such big clicking noise, samething is true if I use floating_point speex library to encode/decode on WM2003. Problem happens only on WM2003 using FIXED_POINT library.
Thanks

How to compile speex with XCode (for iPhone App)?
Hi,
I'm currently trying to use Speex on the iPhone but have some difficulties to get Speex compiled with XCode. Unfortunately I'm very new to XCode and it would be great if someone could give me a hint what the problem is.
Here is what I did in detail:
1. Downloaded the Source Code speex-1.2rc1.tar.gz from www.speex.org
2. Start Xcode 3.1.4
3. File > New Project ...

speex 1.2beta1 encoding/decoding clicking noise on WM2003
I am running speex 1.2beta1 on WM2003 using FIXED_POINT option, I got big
clicking noise during encoding or decoding randomly, I got more noise if I
spoke louder or made the MIC sensitivity higher, for example, when I encode
the wav file to spx file, the original saved wav file does not have such
noise, the noise is added only after it's converted to spx format. The
floating point version of

SPEEX on iPhone ?
Why don't you just try it?
From what others have been reporting, it shouldn't take you long to
get it running.
You can use speexenc and speexdec for testing.

Strange "IMAP connection broken (server response)" errors
Hello,
We upgraded one of our dovecot servers to debian stretch with dovecot
2.2.27 and since then one of our users has been experiencing random IMAP
failures.
We enabled raw logging at the server side and it shows normal IMAP
