GlusterFS compared to KosmosFS (now called cloudstore)?
Hi.
I'm evaluating GlusterFS for our DFS implementation, and wondered how it
compares to KFS/CloudStore?
These features here look especially nice (
http://kosmosfs.sourceforge.net/features.html). Any idea what of them exist
in GlusterFS as well?
Regards.

XCP eserver xSeries 336 support
Hi.
We look to switch from XenServer, as it latest versions do not run on
our eserver xSeries 336 server.
Does the XCP 1.1 fully support this hardware?
Also, any idea how well the Xen tools, such as XenCenter and Xen HW->VM
tools supported in 1.1 release?
I seen there is a feature called XAPI that makes the XCP look as
fully-featured XenServer.
Thanks.

Global vs local puppet management
Hi.
Have anyone ever managed several geographically distributed systems
with Puppet?
I have several almost exactly similar deployments (except the server
IP''s), which management I''m looking to convert to Puppet.
I have 2 options:
* Have each deployment to host it''s own PuppetMaster for providing
local configurations, then synchronize somehow the PuppetMasters

uwb bitrates
Hello
I just wrote a little application using speex. I am compressing and packing singel frames to transmit them. Now I read in the manual, that it's possible to achieve higher bit rates by packing more than one frames at once. Unfortunately there is no table included at the manual, that shows the "real" bitrates of ultra wide band mode. So my question is: Can someone provide that

BDB speed benefits
Hi.
Any idea what speed benefits the BDB translator provides over standard file
storage?
Also, how it's reliable, and what's the maximum file size it stores in the
DB?
Thanks.

Speex 1.1.2 - Try it on ARM
Hi,
I just released unstable version 1.1.2 that contains more fixed-point
work. Though it's still not 100% complete, enough have been done to make
it run in real-time on ARM. In order to do that, compile with
--enable-fixed-point --enable-arm-asm. All narrowband modes work in
real-time with complexity 1 (some work with higher complexity) and some
wideband modes also work (up to ~20 kbps) at

VAD CPU usage
Hi Jean-Marc
I am using speex in my voip app (wideband mode). I
have noticed that when VAD kicks in, CPU considerably
increases (bitrate decreases to 4 kbps). It takes
about 7 ms to encode one frame versus 0.5 ms (for
speech). This happens regardless preprocessor is used.
Although the issue seems to be driver dependent, it
occurs on XP, Vista and Mac OS X.
Besides complexity and quality, this

Speex test cases?
I'm trying to get speex to encode a bit faster, mainly by rewriting a few
functions in SSE and translating the GCC __asm__ to VC __asm.
There's 2 functions I'm targeting, first is vq_nbest which consumes 40% of
the time at high complexity and split_cb_search_shape_sign. Which consumes
just over 30%. I've split out two functions from:
cb_search_precompute_energy - loop at the

XScale realtime encoding possible?
Hi all,
I've got a 400MHz XScale-PXA255 board, and I want to stream voice from
it over a network connection at 28.8baud. This calls for a capable
voice encoder which can encode at about 24kbps. I was damn happy when I
found Speex and said goodbye to MP3 :)
However, i'm still a long way from realtime encoding using speexenc, is
this possible?
Using the fixed point math option in

Recommended version for production use
Hi --
I'm looking at adding Speex decoder and encoder support to the Miles Sound
System, a commercial library used by game developers on various platforms
including PCs, the Mac, and game consoles. As part of my initial
evaluation, I've gone ahead and downloaded the 1.0.4 and 1.1.1 Win32 binary
distributions and played around encoding and decoding various files with the
speexenc.exe and

Fwd: police burst is mandatory?
Hi.
I''m using the following filter from lartc "ultimate PPP" example:
tc filter add dev $DEV parent ffff: protocol ip prio 50 u32 match ip src \
0.0.0.0/0 police rate ${DOWNLINK}kbit burst 10k drop flowid :1
It works fine, but when I remove the "burst 10k", I receive the following
error:
"burst" requires "rate".

Support for tags in speex files?
Dear Conrad and other people.
First of all thank you for your nice response.

encoding speex, (insanity looming)
Hi All,
I'm very new to speex and in fact handling audio at all, it seems I have run
in to a problem I seem unable to fix. I'm trying to take audio from a microphone
using alsa, then encode it as speex and save to disk. I have been
wondering if it has something to do with endian type, but speexenc and
speexdec works fine.
Currently I have the following setup:

narrowband embedded in wideband
Is there any way to access only the narrowband portion of a wideband
stream?
I'd like to be able to encode the audio only once, but allow members
in a conference to have some rough selection of bandwidth, and allow
them to move to a lower-bitrate stream if there is a need to do so.
Thanks,
Matthias

Bitrate Question
Hello developers,
I have a question about supported bitrates for SPEEX. Regardless of whether I specify a 10kbps or a 8kbps bitrate, the encoded .spx file is the same size and have the same PESQ value. This makes me wonder if SPEEX supports arbitrary bitrates, or only a certain set.
A few more details about my configuration:
I am using SPEEX encoder version 1.1.12

Noisy sound quality with Blackfin in WB-mode
Hello all,
I'm testing the Speex codec for my diploma thesis on a BF-533 Blackfin under
uCLinux (2005R3 RC3 release). I successfully compiled the Speex (1.1.11-svn)
and I can encode/decode wav-files on my STAMP-board using the speexenc/speexdec
sample apps. But I encountered that the decoded file sounds strange/noisy, when
compiling with "--enable-blackfin-asm" +

input format
just to check that I've got everything right.
the encoder allows as input
- mono only
- 8 or 16 bits as floating point numbers (without scaling to 1.0).
floating-point wavs (IEEE) will also work, but it's better to scale
them to something like 8000.
- any sample rate (should be set with speex_encoder_ctl), but prefered
are 8/16/32 kHz. but what modes should I use for a given rate?
