Sound card problem in acoustic echo
>I remember?I had to expose the echo cancelation level implementing a get_echo_level( ) function based on this: >http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/speex-dev/2008-September/006889.html This is really a good idea to determine the frequency difference between capture and play of the sound card. But it need constant far-end voice and a long time because it must repeat the process of

Sound card problem in acoustic echo
Thank you. But it will cost you a long time to get the accurate play and capture frequencies. Does your program test two frequencies of the sound card each time? Because different sound cards have different frequency errors. And the resampling program is also time consuming because the target frequency is so close to the sampling frequency of the input signal, isn't it? I have tested program

Sound card problem in acoustic echo
Hi All, In order to deal with acoustic echo cancellation problems of most PCs which sound cards have different capture and play frequencies. I made a trial. At first, a 1000Hz sine wave is played for a long time via a speaker and its acoustic echo is recoreded. Seconds, get the frequency of the echo by a FFT analyser. So the difference between capture and play frequencies is obtained. Thirdly,

Sound card problem in acoustic echo cancellation
Then why ONE sound card have different capture and playback rate? It must be ONE single physical clock generator which is used by both ADC and DAC in the sound card, isn't it? If you are a hardware engineer. Will you design two different physical clock for ADC and DAC seperately? What on earth causes this problem? Who knows its intrinsic real reason? Isn't there any other solutions? For

Echo cancellation with different sound card for speaker and microphone
I'm developing an application that have a video conference component. For that I need echo cancellation, and is looking around for algorithms/implementations of that, and the one in speex is an alternative. In the documentation for speex I find the following sentence however. "Using a different soundcard to do the capture and plaback will *not* work, regardless of what you may

Sound card problem in acoustic echo
Hi all, The conclusion of the discussion is that most sound cards indeed have different capture and playing frequencies for the unknown reasons. But we all know the adaptive filter of the AEC relies on the synchronization of the far-end and near-end sampling rates. Then Has anybody tried to use speex AEC in Windows system? How do you solve this problem? (I have tested speex AEC. In most

Sound card problem in acoustic echo
Hi Underwood, Thank you for your help. I agree with your opinion. But it is almost impossible to further reduce the frequent difference between play and capture. 1. I used a 2^18 step FFT to analyse the echo frequency. So the freq resolution is 8000HZ/(2^17)=0.0625Hz. The analyser need at least 2^18/8000=32 seconds acoustic echo record signal from the microphone. Better freq resolution relies

Help for documentation
Hi, As some probably noticed, there are still many things missing in the Speex documentation. Given the limited amount of time I have right now, help would be really appreciated. I'm sure there are many people on this list that have successfully used Speex so far and that would be able to contribute to one part or another. Here are things that could be done: - Manual * Provide mode

no sound
Hello, I was playing the German version of StarCraft under Debian sid with wine 20050524 without Windows. I had "HardwareAcceleration" = "Emulation" in [dsound] section of ~/.wine/config. I had the following problem: after playing for a while without problems (sound was ok), wine said "fixme:wave:OSS_AddRingMessage two fast messages in the queue!!!! toget =

ALSA and an intel i8x0/SiS SI7012 sound card
Hi, I've been try to get sound in wine (20040121) working on my machine for while now. As you've probably guessed I've got a SiS 7012 (which uses the intel i8x0 modules) and alsa (either natively or OSS emulation.) google came up with a few hits about this not working in the past, namely: http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-devel/2002/12/0281.html But I'm not sure if this is

Sound card problem in acoustic echo cancellation
Hi All, I am a research associate in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. One of my research interests is acoustic echo cancellation. Now I meet a big problem. When I was testing my own AEC module, I found that it was almost perfect in few computers but much worse in other computers. Then I tried AEC module in speex, it was almost the same result. Then I found the reason is that sound cards of

Re: Is it a wine bug if sound in a particular app doesn't work p
This is one of those nasty answers. If you are running pulseaudio switching to emulation for directsound then it works. This is most likely not a bug in wine. But a bug in pulseaudio provided version of alsa interface. If you not running pulseaudio so just alsa direct problem can be wine. But due to varation in quality of alsa drivers it might be an alsa driver bug. Please not pasuspender is

Celebrating Centos 6.0 Day World-wide
Saturday, 9 July 2011 in England. This afternoon I was very enthusiastically telling staff in a large US owned stationary and computers chain store (with often too high prices), Staples, about the joys and benefits of using Linux, specifically Centos, over M$ Windoze. May I suggest that all us very grateful users of Centos make 6 copies of Centos 6.0 (either i386 or/and X64) and hand then out

Strange sound problems on Hardy
I am having a strange sound issue that affects all apps on Wine. I am using Ubuntu 8.04 and have a Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit. Wine version 1.0rc3 is configured to use the ALSA driver. DirectSound hardware acceleration has been enabled a long time before using Hardy and has never caused any problems until now. Regularly the sound of a game/application completely drops until the

AEC troubleshooting
First of all, thank you for your input Tim. That is very helpful. I would love to hear from other people with experience of AEC and Speex. I guess I have to split my question into to parts now. 1. Is it a fact that using the windows multimedia API (wave audio) for audio capture and playback makes it impossible to do echo cancellation with Speex AEC or other EC method due to inprecise timing? I
