kernel and netfilter patches already in Redhat AS 4 for IPSEC
I read LinuxFest NW 2005 Presentation pdf. On page 32, mentioned it
required patches on kernel 2.6.x and netfilter and It only said that
SuSE 9.2 and 9.3 had patches on it''s stock kernel. I''m using Redhat AS
4. Anybody knows does the stock kernel and netfilter had theses
patches patched ? or How should I know the kernel and netfilter had
these patches applied ?
thanks!

Test environments?
Hi folks,
When we first started talking about Shorewall post-Tom, a few people
offered to help with testing. Would those people please raise their
hands again? :-)
I''m investigating Nicolas Helleringer''s recent message on
shorewall-users
(http://lists.shorewall.net/pipermail/shorewall-users/2005-June/018898.html),
and a good test environment would come in really handy,

Dual-ISP Masq
I know this is a FAQ and that it''s been discussed much before, I''m just
looking for a few key things.
I need to setup our gateway so that traffic FROM a range of IPs is sent
out, masqueraded, via a new cable connection.
I''m running 2.6.9.
Am I going to require any of the CONNMARK patches or other patches from
http://www.ssi.bg/~ja/#routes? I''m really not sure

Allowing 4662 port
Dear All
I have added the following line to /etc/shorewall/rules:
ACCEPT net fw tcp 4662
However, the program aMule continues to give me the following error:
NG : Your 4662 port is not reachable.
Any further ideas?
Thanks in advance,

Shorewall and IPV6
As 2.2.0 is nearing release, I''ve begun to think about what I''ll do for
2.3 and I think that it is time for Shorewall to add support for IPV6.
Because of parsing ambiguities, the need to maintain upward
compatibility with both Shorewall and 6Wall, and different available
functionality in IPV4 and IPV6 Netfilter, I believe that it is going to
be necessary for some files to be

Re: Shorewall development web site (Mike Noyes)
Hello,
I leave for a couple days .. (Well months) and look at what has
happened. :-)
I would throw my support in behind Xoops .. to be honest ..
If a portal is what we are trying to achieve here.
I just happen to think that sometimes .. More work goes into web design
etc than goes into actual Code.
But thats because I am a lamer at web design :-)
I am coming in here a bit late .. But tell

Problems in sending emails
Hello,
I''m new in the list. I''ve installed Mandrake MNF and it works fine but I''ve a problem in sending emails.
Small text mails can go out but bigger ones, with attachements, have problems.
My network is formed by Windows workstations and only the firewall is a Linux box.
The first simptom is the reaching of ISP''s server time out and then my mail client goes in

getting my head around DMZ
Hello,
I have been running Shorewall for quite some time at an ISP client of
mine to protect his LAN. We have just upgraded to 2.2.4 and he now wants
to put his servers in a DMZ.
The servers have public IPs in two classes xxx.xxx.79.0 and
xxx.xxx.242.0. The public IP on the router for each class is
xxx.xxx.79.126 and xxx.xxx.242.126.
I am using masq and 192.168.1.0 on eth0 LAN

[LLVMdev] Shouldn't DAGCombine insert legal nodes?
I just ran across something interesting: DAGCombine inserts a 64-bit
constant as the result of converting a (bitconvert (fabs val)) to a
(and (bitconvert val), i64const).
The problem: i64 constants have to be legalized for the CellSPU
platform. DAGCombine is doing the right thing but it's not doing the
right thing for CellSPU and it's damed difficult to work around this

2 ISQs
Hello,
I tried to find the answer to my problem already but
it is a specialised one I think because nothing was
found.
I previously have a ISP who was very fast ("extreme
speed" service from Cable Modem) but that blocked
SMTP port and some other for poor non-commercial
users... And it gives dynamic addresses so no DNS
at home without tricks...
So I went to another

Allow - disallow bug?
Hi all
Firewall is Linux SLES8 kernel 2.4.21-278-default with 2 interfaces, fixed
IP addresses on LAN and Internet (INT, WAN), NAT from LAN to INT
(Masquerading-SNAT). Shorewall is v2.2.2.
I am trying to allow access from LAN to Internet for all workstations EXCEPT
for some of them. Default policy is REJECT LAN to INT traffic, so rule
created in /etc/shorewall/rules is:

Shorewall development web site
Hi folks,
Last night and this morning i''ve hacked up a quick web site for
coordinating our development work based on Drupal (http://drupal.org).
You can find it at:
http://shorewall.dyndns.org
I''ve put a few ideas in there - feel free to use the comments or sign
up for an account and create your own pages (particularly in the two
books about development and web site work).

I quit.
It is with regret that I announce that Shorewall development and support is
officially ended.
Sean''s post has finally driven it home to me that in the long term, trying
to support a project like Shorewall is impossible for a person of my
personality and age.
Sean -- please believe that this isn''t about you or your post -- your post
was just the proverbial straw on this old

Idea: permit /etc/shorewall/masq to contain zones, as well as interfaces
Dear All,
Firstly, thank you very much - shorewall is great. I''m not a member of
this list, and please forgive me if I am suggesting something stupid, but
the following occurs to me, and I thought it might be useful.
Why no make it possible to specify zones as well as interfaces in the
/etc/shorewall/masq file ?
Eg: instead of:
eth0 eth1
one might write:
net loc (or masq in

"Real" users AND Virtual users
Dear all,
How can I use dovecot for both "real" users and virtual users?
I could configure dovecot for real users, by using these lines
in /etc/dovecot.conf:
default_mail_env = maildir:%h/Maildir
auth default {
passdb pam {
}
userdb passwd {
}
}
To accept virtual users, I used these lines:
default_mail_env = maildir:/usr/local/virtual/%u/
auth default {
passdb sql {

Parameterized Samples Withdrawn
Although the parameterized samples have allowed people to get a firewall
up and running quickly, they have unfortunately set the wrong level of
expectation among those who have used them. I am therefore withdrawing
support for the samples and I am recommending that they not be used in new
Shorewall installations.
