kerberos authentication
hi, Is it possible to use an existing kerberos infrastructure (without ssh overhead) for rsync authentication? I found this rsync patch: http://jrds.fr/rsynck but have no idea whether this has been committed upstream or if there are any plans to do it in the future. It would be nice to have something like this. Another question: can I use dns srv records to locate rsyncd servers. I mean, yes, I

clustered file system of choice
Hi all, I am just trying to consider my options for storing a large mass of data (tens of terrabytes of files) and one idea is to build a clustered FS of some kind. Has anybody had any experience with that? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance for any and all advice. Boris.

estimating backuppc
talking with a client about various options for backup. They are an advertising agency so most of the space is used by various binary files JPG/TIFF/Movies. We have been using LTO-2 but if we jump up their storage to say 2Tb, that's going to be $5000 for LTO-3 with magazines. This affords us 3 week rotations rather simply. If we add hard drive storage for backups instead of buying LTO-3 tape

network copy performance is poor (rsync) - debugging suggestions?
Hi, I do have two centos 6.6 servers. With a "performance optimized" rsync I get an speed of 15 - 20 MB/s The options I use are: rsync -aHAXxv --numeric-ids --progress -e "ssh -T -c arcfour -o Compression=no -x" If I copy files by smb to/from the servers I do get 60 - 80 MB/s, a dd (r/w) on the storages attached gives 90 MB/s on the 1Gbit ISCSI (Source Server) and up to

Does the same rate hold true for individual large files as it does for lots of small ones? What filesystem are you using on each side? > rsync -aHAXxv

Q regarding large transfers.
Hi, I read in the FAQ that rsync uses ~100 bytes/file of RAM when building the list. I wonder, is there a way to measure how long this process takes (adding one file to the file list)? I would like to synchronize terrabytes of data but I'm afraid the scanning process will take a _very_ long time. Does rsync have some smart caching algorithm up its sleeve so it does not have to perform a

mdbox import error from read-only filesystem
Dovecot version: 2.2.34 doveadm import tries to call open() on the source indexes/logs of mdbox data, but even if it should work as it is just a read-related call, it fails on read-only filesystems. The main use case for read-only filesystem is restoring from backup: the massive deduplicated backup data is exposed using FUSE. For deduplication to work efficiently, we have to backup the whole

network copy performance is poor (rsync) - debugging suggestions?
We routinely have to sync 4TB, which is about 2M files... Rsync never does well for us - it just cant push the line at all So, this may or may not work for you - but this is a huge problem - so we tried whole excel spreadsheet worth of combinations, every protocol imaginable to make this happen In the end, after a year of constant work on this - We found if we map a network share from

mdbox import error from read-only filesystem
Hi, you can use INDEX=/writable/path/%u in your mail_location setting to define location for the required index data when importing. Also possibly you would need to define writable location for CONTROL and VOLATILEDIR. see https://wiki.dovecot.org/MailLocation <https://wiki.dovecot.org/MailLocation> Sami > On 14 Jan 2019, at 11.23, hby <hby at hby.hu> wrote: > > Dovecot

Tuning for a large environment
Hello, I am currently using Samba 2.2.3a on a Sequent box running DYNIX/ptx v4.0. We are serving up approximatly 4.5 terrabytes of data from a Hitachi Data Systems storage array connected to our server by fiber channel. Many of our users are on Citrix which connects to our SAMBA server via a Gigabit Ethernet connection. There are still others that are connecting directly from their PCs which are
