what is the source and destination filesystem? here is some report that rsync has some problem with HFS+ filesystems and "ressource forks": http://quesera.com/reynhout/misc/rsync+hfsmode/ but as you are using ubuntu and not osx i`m curious what`s the problem, so i think we need more information here. regards roland > Gesendet: Freitag, 12. rsync not copy all information for font file
Hi Ram, In OS X, some font types (not all) put the font payload in the resource fork. Netatalk provides AFP filesharing, imitating the resource forks by creating secondary files in ?.Appledouble? folders within each folder. Netatalk tracks the resource forks, and other metadata, by keeping a ?Desktop database? at the root of the shared volume ? look for .AppleDesktop, and .AppleDB. You can

Ram, ? Look inside the .AppleDouble folder and tou will find the resource forks that hold the main part of the font data. ? Not a 'problem' with netatalk, but just how netatalk works so that it can represent apple files on non-apple filesystems. ? ?If you confirm the data all matches, this will prove rsync is working properly. ? Migration to vfs_fruit with existing AppleDouble files?
Hello! I have a quite large installation that currently supports OSX clients by forcing them to SMB1 with no streams (via the "nsmb.conf") file. This setup forces the OSX clients to generate their own ._[FILENAME] appledouble files for files with resource forks (like adobe documents). We recently discovered the fine work that's been done on vfs_fruit and wanted to see it it could

Migration to vfs_fruit with existing AppleDouble files?
Thanks for the response! This would be really helpful because we use a lot of old adobe type 1 fonts that are 100% resource fork and are rendered unusable without the marshalled xattr's in addition to the AFP_ streams. While ideally having it seamlessly integrated into samba would be great, if it's easier to run a one-time conversion utility we can do that too. Thanks! -S On Wed, Apr

Migration to vfs_fruit with existing AppleDouble files?
(apologies to Ralph, I replied directly to him w/o copying the lists, so here we go again) In my testing that wasn't the case. If I manually copy the apple generated AppleDouble file and it's 0 byte main file to my test system, the correct size (including the resource forks) are shown but the file type is not translated. Using "GetFileInfo" a file copied to the new

"username map" parameter not working after upgrade to SAMBA 3
I have been using the "username map" parameter for some time on various versions of Samba 2, and it has worked nicely. Last week I upgraded to Samba 3 and integrated with Active Directory. Since I am using Solaris 8, and "nsswitch.conf" doesn't support winbindd, I am using the "add user script" parameter to add users. What is happening is that users in

Fun with veto files
Hi. I have a fileserver running samba 2.2.7 and netatalk 1.5.5 for old mac clients. Because the mac's are quite spammy with creating .AppleDouble and other system directories, I've added the following to smb.conf: veto files = /.AppleDesktop/.AppleDouble/Network Trash Folder/TheFindByC ontentFolder/TheVolumeSettingsFolder/System Volume Information/Recycled/ Now, when a windows client

Cannot access HOME folder after upgrading to 4.8 from 4.6
Hello- I upgraded Samba from 4.6 to 4.8 on a FreeBSD 11.2 server. After the upgrade, users cannot access the HOME folder share but they can access other shares just fine. I am using the RID backend on this member server that connects to Windows-based domain controllers. I apologize for the lengthy smb4.conf but here it is: #======================= Global Settings

vfs_fruit & resource forks on macOS
From version 4.10.6 onwards folder icons are not working anymore on macOS. I can see the "._Icon?? file written on disk but seems like Samba isn?t reading it back and presenting it to the client. Is there a change or new setting that is needed on more recent versions, or have I hit a bug? I noticed 4.10.6 had some work done regarding AppleDouble and resource forks. In the client log I?m

Subversion handling of .AppleDouble etc in mixed OSX, Linux environment
Hi, Can some one point me to some resources on managing a mixed OSX and Linux environment (Linux desktops and OSX laptops). When it comes to .AppleDouble, :2eDS_Store etc what happens when folks are commiting from both OSes? When a project is created on Linux and imported into svn and co''d to OSX or the other way around how are these hidden files versioned? In the first case does this

vfs fruit unable to create xattr and ACL from OS X 10.10.4
Hello I am trying to integrate OS X 10.10.4 clients into existing Samba infractructure run by our IT department. We are currently using Samba 4.2.3. File share is stored on iSCSI array with ext4 filesystem which should support both ACL and XATTR. We are trying to setup vfs_fruit module to avoid possible performance problems on OS X clients. We do NOT user netatalk. Current vfs_fruit config:

Netatalk and Samba???
Hi all, Looking for a "best practices" way to share out to both Mac and PC easily. I know Windoze enables the same sharepoint for both the mac and pc shares and there don't seem to be any real "problems" by doing that. However I work in an environment which forces us to utilize Win9x through XP as well as OS 9 through 10.x on the mac side. I need a user friendly way to
