Why noapic acpi=off on new Centos 4.6 system?
I just installed CentOS 4.6 (because I had 4.6 media handy) on a new system, which has a SuperMicro PDSMi mobo with an E4600 CPU. I then did yum update to get to 4.7, although I don't think that's relevant to my query. I wondered why "shutdown -h" would not power down the system. I then also discovered that the soft power button did not initiate a switch to runlevel 0 to do a

[PATCH] x86/ACPI/x2APIC: guard against out of range ACPI or APIC IDs
Other than for the legacy APIC, the x2APIC MADT entries have valid ranges possibly extending beyond what our internal arrays can handle, and hence we need to guard ourselves against corrupting memory here. System reboots after "Scrubbing free RAM" Xen 4.0.1 linux 2.6.37-rc3
Hi Everyone I have sorted out the initial issues I''ve had and decided to give Xen another go. I''m trying to run Xen using kernel 2.6.37-rc3 (previous attempt with rc1 failed, and when I gave it a second go, rc3 was already out). As previously, 2.6.37-rc3 boots fine natively. 2.6.32 boots natively and under Xen as dom0, but I have reservations against running 2.6.32,

[PATCH] x86/idle: reduce contention on ACPI register accesses
Other than when they''re located in I/O port space, accessing them when in MMIO space (currently) implies usage of some sort of global lock: In -unstable this would be due to the use of vmap(), is older trees the necessary locking was introduced by 2ee9cbf9 ("ACPI: fix acpi_os_map_memory()"). This contention was observed to result in Dom0 kernel soft lockups during the loading of

Serial Console Not Connecting to Dom0 on Ubuntu Server 12 Running Xen 4.1.3
Xen-users, I have what I think is a bug in the serial console interaction of Xen and Ubuntu. Essentially, the serial console appears to work just fine until it is passed off to dom 0 from Xen. Then it stops communicating with dom0, but still communicates with Xen, if I use the control-A escape sequence. Google will not show me anything related to this. I have local RS-232 serial console working
