IP address getting overridden by Samba and domain member?
I have been running Samba 4 as an AD/DC for a couple of years now with few problems. I provisioned the domain using --dns-backend=BIND9_FLATFILE and the /etc/named.conf includes the samba-tool provision created file /var/lib/samba/private/named.conf, with zone files in /var/lib/samba/private/dns. All that has been working just fine for for 2 or 3 years. Lately, I added a VirtualBox XP guest

"Ah, but what if you have Unix clients" I do have Unix clients. They work just fine. The Samba AD/DC is the DHCP server. The Windows and Linux clients get their IP addresses and everyone can see all the hosts on the domain. for example: >From the domain controller (host name MAIL) $ host mark # mark is a Windows 7 workstation MARK.hprs.local has address 192.168.0.55 $ host

Domain Member Computer not showing in ADUC
I am running Samba 4.4.16 on Slackware64 14.2. I have a domain member Windows 7 workstation. I upgraded the hardware on this computer a couple of weeks ago. I deleted the computer from the domain, the re-joined after finishing the upgrade. This computer show in the list with 'samba-tool group listmembers "Domain Computers"', but does not show up in ADUC > Computers. I've

I've been using bind9 and DHCP on Samba 4.1.0 thru 4.1.17 and Slackware 64 14.1 for many months now in a production environment and it works just fine. There are a few tweaks here and there to get bind/dhcp to play nicely with Samba ... Note, conf file locations are Slackware, but you'll know where the same thing goes in your distro. In the examples below, my Domain IP range is

getent group not working on new domain member
I have a troubling circumstance. I've installed a new domain member running Slackware64 14.2. This computer is practically a clone of another domain member I've had set up and running for over a year. Most everything seems to work. I have joined the domain and it does show up as a domain computer. The domain user can log onto the computer just fine. I can run `wbinfo -u`, `wbinfo -g` and

Thanks for the info, At the moment, I don't have more than 1 DC, but I am planning on doing the bind master/slave thing thing soon using the Linux webserver host. With failover, I don't see why that wouldn't work with multiple DCs (but of course haven't tried yet). In any case, our AD/DC also hosts mail and redirected folders do if it goes down we've got big problem anyway --

Samba-4.3 AD-DC Win7pro clients not time syncing
We have a Samba-4.3 AD-DC hosted on a FreeBSD-10.3 system. We have just discovered that for some reason our domain workstations are not synchronising their time with the AD-DC. We have not altered the default GPO nor have we created a special GPO to handle time services. I have been working on several of the domain clients and I cannot seem to get them to source from the Samba server. I have

One thing nobody seems to mention. This setup samba 4 + bind9_flate file setup works ok.. BUT If you add a new DC, you will run in to problems.. bind9_flatefile setup is NOT multi master replication setup. OK for 1 DC, but if you use more DC's, make sure you make your changes on the first dc. setup a bind master/slave.. and for a dhcp server with failover setup, which works also with

Replace SBS2003 with Samba4
Hello all, I'm currently investigating the option to completely replace a SBS2003 DC with a Samba4 DC. My research (mostly on samba.org guides) shows that it is feasible, however I'd like to get feedback from the community on my goals. Current status: A Windows SBS 2003 is the PDC and a W2008 R2 server is acting as secondary DC. Domain operational level is 2003. There are ~40-50

Replace SBS2003 with Samba4
Anastasios, I've done exactly what you want to do, only starting from SBS2008. Our office went down this road in 2014 when we investigated upgrading from SBS2008 only to find that MS replacement, Server Essentials, did not support Exchange. We currently have a "no cloud" policy, so going to Office 365, as you have done, was not an option (and btw, have you not considered Server
