Installing onto Windows
Hello.  I am totally new to Samba. I would like to network 2 computers, Linux and Windows.I've looked over the install instructions but have no idea what it all means.I already have Samba in my Linux.  It detects the other computer's Windows but times out. Do I assume correctly that both computers need Samba to network them? What essentially do I do to install and use Samba in Windows 7?

Users in group cannot rename or delete files/folder owned by the group
Hi all, I am having a very strange issue with Samba, users who are not the owner of files but are in the same group cannot delete or rename files via Windows. For example the user ?sean? in the ?storage.access? group CANNOT delete or rename a folder called temp via windows but CAN delete or rename via terminal session. The folling three folders have the folling permissions: /storage/

Linux Mint 19.1, Samba 4.7.6 & WIndows 10
Have a Linux Mint 19.1 with Samba 4.7.6 installed. Plan is to use this as a file server. Cannot connect from Windows 10. Win 10 sees the share but says group name could not be found. Everything worked on the previous Ubuntu machine. Any thoughts on where I should look? Tom Thomas Rieff GreenCare 1717 3rd Avenue Mankato, MN 56001

I have followed: http://rudd-o.com/en/linux-and-free-software/making-windows-xp-join-a-samba-domain-in-5-minutes and http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/ClientConfig.html#WXPP009 and the reg hack even though I'm using Samba 3.3.2 I keep getting the error message: "The following error occured attempting to join the domain "ROOM101" The username could not

Unable to find Samba Server, Windows Network
Hi, I am having some problems setting permissions to access a Samba share on my Windows XP box. So what follows is all the information I thought would be useful to helping me out. Firstly, neither box has a firewall running. Both computers are able to ping each other's IPs. When on my XP box, I go to "Map Network Drive" I am able to find my Samba computer \\Server in my workgroup

Windows 10 spawning thousands of child processes on Samba 4.3.11 server
I have 10 Windows 10 clients connecting to Ubuntu 16.04 with Samba version 4.3.11-Ubuntu. Each client has one smbd process, but I notice the number of child processes is exploding into 40.000+ the next day after a restart. I reckon this is not normal. Server load is < 0.1 but client applications are misbehaving and crashing. The problems started when moving from an old Ubuntu 10.04 to a newer

Samba + ldap + cannot find domain
Because I'm a masochist, I decided to port my previous (and much older) Samba configuration running a (much older) Slackware implementation to a (much) new server (running Debian Jessie) without actually looking at how to migrate it. Great fun, lots of problems to solve now. The problem of the moment: /var/log/samba/log.smbd tells me it cannot find the domain info in the ldap backend.
