The problem is that Win7 workstations appear to randomly experience domain trust issues logging in, although they can log in some times, they are unsuccessful at other times. Have a Linux Mint 19.1 with Samba 4.7.6 installed. Plan is to use this as a file server. Cannot connect from Windows 10. Win 10 sees the share but says group name could not be found. Hello.  I am totally new to Samba. I would like to network 2 computers, Linux and Windows.I've looked over the install instructions but have no idea what it all means.I already have Samba in my Linux.  It detects the other computer's Windows but times out. Do I assume correctly that both computers need Samba to network them?What essentially do I do to install and use Samba in Windows 7?

Since this is a standalone server. Change map to guest = bad user to map to guest = bad password put the 2 pc's hostnames in the /etc/hosts file on the samba server. Stop and start samba.
