[3.6.6] Possible to allow password-free read/write access?
Hello
At home, I use my Windows client host without entering a password,
and would like to access a local Linux host likewise, ie. without
being prompted for login/password while still having read/write
access.
Is this possible?
Currently, I created no Unix/Samba accounts for the Windows user, and
the following smb.conf only works in read-only mode (ie. I get an
error when trying to write):

per smb.conf, you might want to try changing to "security = share"
(assuming you don't have any shares that might require more restriction.
Did you try setting the linux directory permissions as 777- at least
for testing?

Why would the samba list be looking for a reverse host name
via IPV6? IFAIK I only have an IPv4 addr and reverse
addr. I don't know if the original went to the person
in france or not.
Anyone else getting bounces like this?

[3.0.28a] Telling XP to save password?
Hello
We're successfully running Samba 3.0.28a on a FreeBSD server and
sharing files with XP clients. There's only one problem: By default,
XP doesn't let the user save the password, so they have to type it
every time they reboot.
Is there a way to tell XP to remember the password between
reboots/sessions?
Thank you.

Reliable Samba just stopped mounting Windows machine
I have been mounting a Windows machine with no problems whatsoever for
the year. Suddenly this afternoon it won't mount any more. No recent
changes have been made on the machine. The only thing I've done
recently is load and get Thunderbird working. Most things are done as
user not root in KDE xterms.
My Linux machine is Slackware Linux 10.0.
There is an iptables firewall that

Multiple password servers/domains
Hi all,
I've just installed the new version 1.9.18p7 on a Solaris 2.6 box. We
have multiple domains in our organization with trust relationships
(Domain authentication is handled by Windows NT servers). I would like
to be able to have multiple servers listed as password servers. If the
server authentication fails on the first server, it would try the next.
With this, I could have many

[4.5.12] "guest account" doesn't work
Hello,
Until now, I let Samba use nobody:nogroup to access shares from Windows
with no account in Samba.
I wanted to try the "guest account" option to tell it to use a specific
Unix account… but it fails with "Access denied". The solution is to
either give up on the "guest account" directive, or add "force user" to
the share. Why is that?

Win95, sharing printers and drives
I have two computers ROLAND (RedHat 5.2 and Samba) and LINDA
(Windows95).
I am already able to print on the printer connacted to LINDA. Yesterday,
before I managed to get the printer working, I was alos able to see
ROLAND's directory 'tmp' and 'winD' on LINDA.
The problem that I saw this morning was that the printing still works
but LINDA can no longer see the shares of

Feedback on Linksys SPA-921 and GrandStream GXP-2000
Hello
I'm about to order a GrandStream GXP-2000 and a Linksys SPA-921
I'd like to have some user feedback about how those phones perform, and
whether their LCD screen displays both the caller ID name and number (The
GrandStream BT-100 only displays numbers, which isn't very helpful).
Thank you.

Anyone try 'ssh server" and get "Password for DOMAIN\USER:>>"
I'm trying to use 'ssh' as a domain user from a workstation into my
server.
When I ssh as a non-domain user, it doesn't tack on a domain (or workstation)
name, so it just works, but when I log in from from my Samba domain,
it tacks it on (and the linux security stuff doesn't like "domain\" either.
Should the pam_winbind module be able to authenticate

OpenVox A400P01on thin client?
Hello,
I'm thinking of ordering an OpenVox A400P01 (A400P + 1 PORT FXO Bundle)
for use in a old IBM 8364 thin client:

Has someone already used this hardware with Asterisk, especially on a small
piece of hardware like this, and could offer some feedback?
Thank you.

Login Attempt Resets Password in smbpasswd
Hello,
I am running Samba 3.4.7 on Ubuntu 10.04 amd64. Due to legacy support, I am using a smbpasswd file (chmod 600) instead of the newer tdbsam database. It is also worth noting that this server also has LDAP authentication enabled (for SSH access). Clients access Samba from both Windows 7 and Windows XP. The smb.conf file is as follows:

On linux, to get 'domain\user' to resolve, I had to have
those entries in my /etc/passwd (and /etc/group for groups).
I.e. *w/o krb*, (in samba 3.x), I had entries like:
