Secure dynamic update failure with internal DNS
Hello, At one point secure dynamic updates worked. Now I require 'allow dns updates = nonsecure' for dynamic updates to work. I can't seem to find any trace of updates being performed in the samba logs or Windows. I've hit a wall and can't seem to progress. Since I couldn't pull anything from the logs I decided to run 'nsupdate -g -d -D -L 10'. This was

Unable to authenticate ldap externally after upgrade from 4.4.0 to 4.4.2
Hello, After upgrading all external services will no longer authenticate to the domain. One of those is osTicket. Looking through the release notes I figured this would happen. However I'm a bit tentative to make changes to my smb.conf without doing damage and asking for help from the list. I have 6 DC's. One holds all the FMSO roles. This is the smb.conf from that DC. DNS Scavenging in Samba AD
I read the 4.9 “Features added" release notes about newly available DNS scavenging features, and the problem with domains that were set up in earlier versions of samba AD. "It is now possible to enable scavenging of DNS Zones to remove DNS records that were dynamically created and have not been touched in some time.” “This support should however only be enabled on new zones or new

Samba 4.2.14 Internal DNS not returning DNAME records?
I have a bit of an oddity here: I'm using Samba 4.2.14 with AD, using Samba's internal DNS to serve to my domain (and forwarding others to Google Public DNS 8.8.8.8). However, it looks like client queries (and subsequent forwards) to a vendor's URL (www.pitneybowes.us) fail, but are successful if I query Google directly: [root at XXXX~]# nslookup -type=any www.pitneybowes.us >

Internal DNS and recursion
On the Samba wiki at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_Internal_DNS there is the following: If you have chosen the internal DNS as backend for your environment, there are only two options that can be added to your smb.conf, to control the behaviour of DNS at this point: # Don't allow any updates | allow unsigned updates | only allow signed updates allow dns updates = False |

AD DNS scavenging and winbind:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Tikanga) Samba 3.0.33-3.15.el5_4.1 I have run into an issue where the DNS records added by a net ads join seem to be being scavenged. From what I understand, Windows servers/workstations check in (update their host record) on the AD DNS server on a regular basis. So the question is, how can I have samba/winbind do the same? I could just setup a cron

ah yes.. that are the "limitation", but know limitations ( for us ) Rowland, this is something to add on the wiki. Which DNS to use for DHCP hostname/IP updates from non-AD & AD nodes?
With Linux DHCP + Bind it was possible to have the DHCP server dynamically update Bind as new clients appeared. I don't need the clients themselves updating DNS records directly. For those few nodes using static IP addresses and not on the AD domain, I'm fine with having to manually enter their A/PTR records into the DNS database. IIRC normal MS Windows AD DC allows for nodes that are

Samba internal dns stops work on load
Hi! I'm having some trouble with samba internal dns - it is acting as a forwarder too. If a few users (1 or 2) are logged in, OK. But if more users are logged in, no name is resolved. So every (exactly) 10 minutes I see high IO usage (samba process writes about +500MB in disk, I don't know where) and samba logs: ../source4/dsdb/dns/dns_update.c:294(dnsupdate_nameupdate_done)

dnsupdate_nameupdate_done - Failed DNS update
Thanks Rowland, I tried that just now, but as soon as I restarted samba, the error occurred again a few seconds afterwards. The good news, I suppose, is that it's easy to reproduce - each time I restart samba I get the error :) But, it wasn't helped by adding "allow dns updates = nonsecure" to smb.conf on one of my DCs. I wonder if there is some error being flagged by the

Dynamic DNS record scavenging support
Hello all, some additional info: Samba version is 4.10.6 on Centos7 with sernet packages. I am using bind_dlz as dns. This happens on all DC regardless if scavening was enabled with the Windows DNS Manager. I enabled one new zone but this still happens. Replication is also not working then as the kcc seqfaults every view seconds. In the release notes it says: This support should however only be
