Migrating maildirs - Courier to Dovecot
I apologise, because I'm sure this subject has been done to death, but I want to migrate from Courier to Dovecot. I think my main question is whether there's any reason I shouldn't just rsync the maildirs across from the old mail server to the new one? There aren't many clients using this server, so I don't care if clients have to redownload all their messages (in fact, I

Winbind & adding users... is `useradd` being called? %u parameter?
Hi there, This is probably a dumb question, so my apologies, but I've set up WinBind on my my Samba box & it seems to be authenticating against the domain, however new user accounts do not seem to be added. `wbinfo -u` returns a list of the users on the domain and I seem to have setup my IMAP server correctly to authenticate against that (using PAM), as I see the following in

Maildir permissions, shared folders & postfix
Hi there, It's my understanding that shared folders can be implemented in the Dovecot IMAP server by simply symlinking one maildir to another, eg: $ ls -lan /home/DOMAIN/ned/.maildir/ total 40 drwx------ 9 10012 10000 440 Jan 9 04:23 . drwxr-xr-x 3 10012 10000 160 Jan 6 06:32 .. drwx------ 5 10012 10000 264 Jan 9 04:21 .Deleted Items drwx------ 5 10012 10000 232 Jan 6

Dovecot vs Exim file locking
Hi all: We're planning to deploy a large e-mail system storing maildirs in a NAS system through NFS. One of the options we're thinking on is using Dovecot+EXIM. As far as I've read in both project's documentation, both services implement locking allowing multiple servers to access the same maildirs in order to distribute the service load. However, I can't find any information

Dovecot & pam_mkhomedir
Hi there, Does anyone have Dovecot working correctly with pam_mkhomedir, please? I seem to be going through quite a number of IMAP servers this week, trying to find one that will not only authenticate against a Windows domain but which will also create home directories for users the first time they log in. I'm using winbind to do the authentication & that seems to be doing the trick

Modifying the underlying maildir externally (webmail, replication)
Hello, I have a setup where there are multiple maildir users, one of them being the pop/imap server itself, the others are for example a maildir capable webmail and message replication. I would like to evaluate Dovecot, but I wonder how would its binary indexes and logs fit into this picture. After running through http://wiki.dovecot.org/IndexFiles I'm not sure how well would Dovecot

small mbox and index files problem
Dovecot version: 1.0-0_33.rc15 built by atrpms Operating system: Redhat EL4 CPU architecture: x86 Filesystem you used: mailboxs via nfs to fileserver using xfs Just upgraded from 1.0-0_20.rc7 to 1.0-0_33.rc15 built by atrpms and we had previously set mbox_min_index_size to 1024 (1Mb) and now all mailboxes (mbox format) that are under this size are not able to be opened and throw an "Internal

Another numptie question - making maildirs for shared mailboxes.
Hi there, Sorry to have so much trouble with my Dovecot setup & to ask so many questions, but I'm having some problems with shared folders. I've read the thread at <http://dovecot.org/pipermail/dovecot/2005-January/006079.html> and added the following lines to /etc/dovecot.conf: namespace private { separator = / prefix = inbox = yes } namespace public {

Hi all, are there any pitfalls known for the migration from 2.0.18 to 2.1? Can I simply stop dovecot, make install and start again? --Frank Elsner

clucene build warnings?
Hi all/Timo, Is clucene still the best/recommended method for enabling full text search? Although I haven't enabled FTS yet, I plan on doing sometime in the future, and was going to be using clucene, but before I do, I'd like to see if I need to worry about an issue I've been seeing ever since I first installed clucene (and still get every time it is upgraded)... I run gentoo

Problem with fts lucene, on solaris 10
Hi all, I'm planning to migrate my courier-imap imap server to dovecot, but I'm experiencing a strange issue with fts-lucene plugin. Basically, every time I start a search, the log starts to write: Apr 05 19:30:53 indexer: Error: Indexer worker disconnected, discarding 1 requests for XXXXXX Apr 05 19:30:53 indexer-worker(XXXXX): Fatal: master: service(indexer-worker): child 809 killed

clucene-config.h location
By deafult, CLucene installs the clucene-config.h header to /usr/lib/CLucene, but fts-lucene tries to include it from /usr/include/CLucene and fails. Here is how it is fixed in Fedora, for instance: sed -i '/DEFAULT_INCLUDES *=/s|$| '"$(pkg-config --cflags libclucene-core)|" src/plugins/fts-lucene/Makefile.in Indeed, Lucene's pkgconfig file reflects the fact that some

v1.0.13: maildirfolder not being created
Hi, I'm using version 1.0.13 of dovecot. I know it's somewhat dated, but that's the latest that Debian etch offers, and I would like to avoid compiling by myself if possible. dovecot is not creating the 'maildirfolder' in folders that are created via IMAP. Looking at the NEWS file, this was implemented in v1.0.rc7, so my version should have that working already. Is

Building 2.1.rc1 with cluence, but without libstemmer
Hi, I'm testing out 2.1.rc1, building against clucene 2.3.3.4. Without libstemmber, the build fails because it attempts to include SnowballAnalyzer.h which is not part of "core" clucene. Simple patch below to make dovecot 2.1.rc1 build with clucene but without libstemmer (or textcat). Looking at libstemmer itself, there are multiple versions. The version in clucene is put into
