PCNS for CentOS and APC ups's
Apparently there is only an Itanium client for RHEL according to APC? I need to setup a few boxes to shut down safely and don't know if the PCNS 2.2.3 Linux version will do it? Anyone know why it needs Java as well? (Blegh) Assuming APC is fairly popular, how do you guys shutdown your CentOS boxes with a UPS with a management card in it? Thanks! jlc -------------- next part -------------- An

apcupsd, APC UPSs, and batteries, resolved
Well, here's the tale: we got a "replacement kit" for some APC SmartUPS 3000 - rackmount UPSs. The "kit", costing about half of what APC is asking, is just the batteries, and you pull the tray out, open it up, and swap out the batteries. Except, I did this on one... and the replace battery light never went out. Not using apcupsd's apctest, not pushing the button. The

(a) WinPower RPM available? (b) where to install if use tar.gz file?
Two quick and simple questions; I want to install the "WinPower" software for my new UPS. On their web site, they have a tar.gz file available for download. I know the reasons for staying with RPM, if at all possible. I''ve Googled and Yahood for ""WinPower"+RPM+Linux and get hits, but no obvious RPM. I tried "yum install winpower" and the response was

Does NUT include support for older UPSD servers?
I have a network with two older systems protected by APC UPSs. Both systems run OS/2 and will continue to do so. Both systems have APC PowerChute Plus 4.2.3 installed and I can use that software to monitor and control both systems. I am also now running several linux systems, in fact I spend almost all my time on the linux systems and these OS/2 systems are servers running in the

apcupsd
Here's an odd one: I installed apcupsd, and it works with most of our UPSs. I'd swear it worked on this one. Then I replaced the Gin-u-wine APC batteries, which were dead, with new ones, non-APC. They're just dumb batteries, no chips or whatever on them. If I hook it up using a serial cable, I can get info. If I hook it up the way I had it, with APC's weird USB cable - and this is

ZFS, power failures, and UPSes
Hello, I''ve looked around Google and the zfs-discuss archives but have not been able to find a good answer to this question (and the related questions that follow it): How well does ZFS handle unexpected power failures? (e.g. environmental power failures, power supply dying, etc.) Does it consistently gracefully recover? Should having a UPS be considered a (strong) recommendation or

Sysprep joins fail on Samba >= 4.2.0
Hi, We have a samba 4.2.2 setup compiled from source, single DC, internal DNS. We've been using this samba setup in production since version 4.0.3. All clients are Windows 7-x64. Since we upgraded to samba 4.2.0 back in march 2015, we are not able to join client machines to the domain using our sysprep unattended image, but joining machines via the manual procedure using the Windows GUI

Plea for a more loquacious nut
I would like nut to become more loquacious, and to log a much more complete report of its activity. At present nut reports that its components have started operation but does not automatically log their activity when UPS's switch between OB and OL. I believe that this under-reporting of important facts is too minimalist - it would be better for system administrators and for the nut

Common Linux Power Management (HAL and NUT) (was: Re: ideas for a new UPS infrastructure)
Hi David and fellows, I'm reviving this important thread about a common power management. To sum up, the first aim is to allow a better user experience on Linux by bridging NUT with Linux HAL, and Gnome Power Management / any PM GUI. But it also initiate a bigger investigation about how to integrate NUT support for UPSs into the native OS Power Management infrastructure for all supported

FE700VA over USB? controlling UPSes over network?
Lately I replaced my 10+-year-old server with a nano-ITX-type one that has USB but not old serial ports.  I connected my FE700VA to DB25-to-9-to-USB cables, but haven't been able to set it up. Apparently my DB9-to-USB cable (Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2303 Serial Port) has issues needing old software (setserial?) and some new software (fconfigure) being changed.  Has anyone managed

APC Back-UPS CS 500 power cycle
Hello, we have a problem using APC Back-UPS CS 500 (connected via USB, usbhid-ups-apc) and UPS-NUT. We've tried different Versions of UPS-NUT (2.2.1 and 2.2.2), including the latest from SVN (28th November 2008). We've also tried apcupsd, which works fine for our requirements, but we don't want use it. What we need is simple: The UPS should turn off after power loss and shutdown

Smart-UPS staying in OB after power return
Hi list, UPS is a Smart-UPS 3000 RM (SU3000RM3U, ups.firmware 92.11.D, ups.mfr.date 12/14/99) with brand-new batteries. NUT is 2.6.5 running on SL6 (RHEL6 clone) from EPEL packages. 'upsc' output pasted at bottom. I'm not very familiar with UPSs in general or this model in particular, and it's doing things I don't expect. I have done my homework, and read UPS user manual,
